My DS has been wanting us to buy one for weeks, and I finally did, and I really have no idea how to eat it. Eat the seeds...the sign in the store said scoop out the seeds, rinse and eat??? Can you juice them...not sure I like crunching seeds. I know they sale pom. juice in the store. OK..once again, I'm coming to you asking for help.
HOW DO YOU EAT THEM??

My BF growing up had a tree in her back yard. We would just peel and eat. Ofcourse, we had a seed spitting contest.
My children cut them in half and pick out the juice pockets. Sometimes they eat the seeds ans sometimes I have to use a lot of stain remover on their clothes. I would be curious to see how other people deal with pomegranites.

I love when its pom season!
I just peel and eat, seeds and all...they are so delicious. Sometimes i cut into quarters, and pick the seeds out to eat...both ways are messy because the seeds are VERY juicy!
Yes, you can juice the seeds.
I hope you enjoy!

Here's what I do.
Place pom seeds in juicer along with a peeled prickly pear cactus.
Pour juice into blender along with a handfull of spinach.
(blend until there are no chunks of green)
...then add a banana, frozen peaches, and a squirt of agave.
And ICE (keep adding ice until it is really thick)
Enjoy! My husband calls this the "my little pony" smoothie because (IMHO) it is the prettiest shade of pink.
It's really so tasty! (And the juicer catches all the prickly's and seeds)

Thanks guys!!
Beppa, I love your recipe, even though I'm not sure I know what a prickly pear fruit is...maybe I've seen one, is it yellow, with spikey's on it??
I might try to eat 1/2 and juice 1/2....
Thanks again

No, it's the goose-egg size fruit from a cactus plant--pale green/reddish when ripe.

I cut the very top and very bottom off the pomegranate. I then score the outside with a knife from top to bottom. Score it so it looks like it has lines like a pumpkin does.
Fill a big bowl with water and break the pomegranate apart. This will expose the seeds. I break the seeds away from the pith under water so that it on pops I won't be covered in red juice and let the seeds fall to the bottom. The pith will float.
When you are done, skim the pith from the top and throw the remaining water and seeds in a colander to drain. Eat or juice.

I cut an "X" into the top, i.e. where the little flowery things come out, go into the fruit, but not too far as you will damage the seeds. Then rip it in half, be forceful but slow about it. THAT is the difficult part, but you can do it without damaging a single seed if you get good.
Once you're there, just use your thumbs to remove the seeds from the rind, you'll hear little pops as they fall off. It's such a satisfying process.
Then I just take big handfuls, chomp and swallow.
