And lets just stay, I closed the store down. I was there for nearly 3 hours, and they nearly had to drag me out =) Its so frustrating to see how much health I have been missing out on.. but at the same time so enlightening, exciting, and overwhelming. It is SO expensive! I spent 50 bucks on less than two bags worth of food, and thats NOT going to last long. But anyway, I am very excited about all the possibilities!!! My eyes have been open.. and filled with joy and excitement to embrace all that they and other health stores, etc have to offer. And open to all that i STILL have to learn! =) One day, when I get out of Oklahoma, Im going to live in New York, and other cities with many raw restaraunts and experience all that amazing stuff! But for now, lets just say I am one LUCKY girl to have the only wild oats in Oklahoma, right here in my own city district!
Also, I was wondering about something they had.. its not raw either. They had giant dispensers of nuts, candy, trail mizes, spices, etc and a couple of them were entitled "fruit juice covered organic raisons" and they looked and tasted (yes I tasted them!) like CHOCOLATE! But they were calorie free! I asked the lady that worked there about it and she said they are indeed calorie free because they are made from natural fruit juices, and for people with diabetes. But even fruit juice has calories? So are these nutrition facts listed on the items accurate? THANKS!
Have a lovely day,
Bunny

Well, fruit juice DOES contain calories. Hey, calories are good for us! We *need* calories in order to function.
If you take your weight and multiply by 10 you'll get a ball park figure of the average amount of calories you require to maintain that weight. So, if you weigh 150, you need at least 1500 calories, and more depending on the kind of exercise you do. If you have time, go to fitday.com and enter in what you ate for the day and the activity you did (there's all kinds of activities listed there, from shoveling snow to sedentary) and it will tell you how many calories you had and how many you burned off with the activity.
Fruits are rich in carbs (yes, carbs are good for us too!). Carbs = immediate fuel. Fruits are high in natural sugars and fresh fruit is the best supply for fuel. Your body uses fresh fruit sugars immediately, whereas the carbs in grains and cooked starches, the body will use much more slowly.
Caloric value per gram:
carb = 4 calories
fat = 9 calories
protein = 4 calories
alcohol = 7 calories
Fats have over double the amount of calories per gram than carbs and protein. So keep that in mind when eating your fatty foods (avos, olives, nuts, nut butters, oils).

thanks for that information!! =)) But why do you think they had false nutritional facts then? I was really excited about those rasions! LOL even though I knew it had to be too good to be true =p thanks!
I love Wild Oats! I work right next door to one. They have a juice bar so I can take a quick break for some wheatgrass juice and a smoothie.

I think maybe they meant it didn't contain any processed sugar, only natural one. That would make more sense. :rolleyes:

Next time you go back there, check out the nutrition facts again. If you are thinking of raisins, I think it may have been referring to fat. Sounds like it's zero fat. Every kind of food has calories, except for water and maybe Pepsi One (which still has a calorie)! :)
