I have been looking at Wegmans and found Vegan Carob Chips.....they do not say they are raw so I didn't buy them. How do I know if the are raw? I dont want to buy from alissas store...too overpriced.

I'd bet they are processed.

As far as being too overpriced - Alissa's products? Um, she DOES let us use this forum for free.

From what I've seen, I would say they are not raw. Most of the carob on the mainstream market is roasted. To find raw carob in a store is a rarity, and yes, it is expensive. I know people that call themselves "100% Raw Foodist!" but still eat carob in desserts, and it's the roasted carob they are eating. They group roasted carob into the spices category. If you want to truly be 100% raw, then don't eat these. Try Raw Organic Cacao Nibs.

I heard an interesting statement not too long ago regarding the price of healthy and organic foods.

I don't know the exact qoute but they said that organic food is not overpriced, conventional food is underpriced due to government subsidies and bad farming practices.

People in many other countries spend a greater percentage of their income on food than those of us in the US.

As for the carob, I think you will find the prices for raw carob to be relatively close to the same price wherever you purchase it.
