Do I have to juice it? I just had it in a salad...and well, it tasted like my lawn. Not that i would know! :o

The body can't digest it as we don't have enough stomach acid. However, I have a friend who routinely puts it in her salad, claiming she craves the fiber. When I'm out in the woods, I often put a gob of grass in my mouth and chew it like a cow with her cud and spit out the fiber at the end. That's really the ultimate way to consume it since the saliva enzymes really get worked in but it also stains my teeth green, temporaily of course.

In its first growth the WG blade is getting its nutrients from the seed rather then from the ground and thats why its so potent when young. Most people prefer to use the WG in the first clipping only. The grass growing out in the woods is probably a long way from the seed.

It needs to be about 6 inches tall, and you need to juice it with a special manual juicer or an electric one that can handle it.

I grew it for a while -- it took a fortnight to mature, and the juice was wonderful. Then I lapsed and haven't got back into the routine... really worth doing though, not difficult and very satisfying.

If you don't like the taste you may want to juice it and add the wheatgrass juice to a blended soup or green smoothie, or just add some fresh apple or pineapple juice to it.

At Penn Station (in NY), there's a Smoothie King that I go to quite often.

They add wheatgrass juice to some of their smoothies. Wheatgrass is quite strong, so I don't drink it often.

I tried eating it alone and it tasted like the grass in my backyard:eek:.

Eating it in a salad sounds good....

I juice it as part of my morning juice which includes celery, cucumber and other greens.
I find that it is quite palatable this way. I find the smell strong and offputting but the taste is much milder.
I recommend this method to anyone who does not like it (I know that there are some who do).
I never liked it and have even been very sick after taking it but not since I started mixing it.

I agree with sport -- I find it hard to drink on its own, but mixed with other juices, it's fine. Something sweet, like an apple, in the mix is good, and also a small slice of lime -- just a sliver -- or little piece of ginger is great for helping to blend in the flavour.

I can buy it at my local farmers market.
I have seen it in Wild Oats.
It would be cheaper and more reliable to grow it yourself.

I noticed they recently started stocking it in Whole Foods also. Yes, I agree it's cheaper to grow but it feel time consuming to me. I wish some smart green-thumbed person would grow it locally for me to buy....!

Not sure about eating it as grass but juicing it in a special juicer made for it is great or buy it at a cafe/bar that has it. Its amazing..the rush on an empty stomach(best utilization of it)....then eat soon or you might get nausea.Powerful and high vibe stuff!!!
