I've only been raw less than 2 weeks, and my body just can't handle fruit in my smoothies (hypoglycemia). Every recipe I found calls for fruit, so this is what I invited.

Kale
Spinach
2 lemons
Parsley
2-3 tablespoons coconut oil
1-2 tablespoons maca
Flax Seed Oil
Spirulina
Ice
Little bit of sweetener

Just seeing if anyone else avoids fruit in their smoothies

Sounds yummy!

I rarely add fruit to my smoothies with the exception of a Bannnana in most of them.

When I crave fruit I juice

So eat whattastes and feels good to you:)

I like to make my green smoothies really green and use a cucumber instead of fruit in them and then when I make a smoothie I just have fruit in those. The result of doing that is I get my greens everyday from 3 sources. The 1st is the GS I described above. The 2nd is to have green juice and the 3rd is that I like to have green salad everyday.

Wow they all sound yummy. My food processor finds it a bit of a challenge to blend anything that doesn't have a soft fruit in it, so I make my green smoothies with banana. I'm getting a vita-mix for christmas though! :D Then I can make lovely pure veggie smoothies.

I have a cheapo, but I find if I blend the greens first in the water for awhile, it gets pretty smooth!

Hi,

In regards to your hypoglycemia, I was doing some research and what I found was that if your liver is not functioning properly, you can get wild fluctuations in your blood sugar, among other things. Also I'd suggest a hair strand test. I know from that when my hypo is going crazy, I need to up my calcium intake.

Thanks! I made my first fruit-free green smoothie this morning! I used leftover pulp from making veg juice and blended it with spinach, water and a little bit of hemp oil. I used heaps of water but it still turned out pretty thick! Yay :)

I've had it since I was a baby, I just didn't find out what I had till about 6 years ago, after I finally found a nice doctor to run all the tests. I don't remember if he checked my liver functions though. Did you have a test to check yours? We only see a chiropractor (who is into muscle testing and stuff like that). I did however in a few months wanted to get some blood tests just to see different levels of things to make sure other things are functioning as they are supposed too.

You are welcome!! Glad it worked out.

I cant eat a green smoothie without fruit to mask the flavour.. The feeling of thick leaves and the taste of raw anything green in a liquid freaks me out lol. I am such a big baby. Currently I am using Swiss chard.. and without 3-4 fruits to mix in.. I wouldn't be able to down it.

I usally have my smoothie without sweet fruits - occasionally i used banana but now my basic smoothe consists of: kale, parsley, celery, lemon juice and 1/2 avocado and 2 soaked dates for a full blender - sometimes i add tomatoe or cucumber or carrot and various greens but nothing sweet. Somehow i like it as a soup - savory and thickened by avocado, with various spices and different amount of lemon juice so the taste varies - basil, thyme, cilantro and oregano make the difference too.

I have not had my normal GS (fruit & veggies) for about 3 weeks now. I have been making vegetable smoothies everyday. I'll use a combination of these veggies (whatever I'm in the mood for)

Tomatoes
Cucumbers
Carrots
Broccoli
Celery
Sweet peppers
Onions
Spinach
Basil
Romaine
Lemons
Parsley
Radishes
Peas
Sea salt (sometimes)
Garlic (sometimes)
Apple and Grapes (once in awhile)

I have been so into these lately...with pulp and all!!! Yum!!!

WOW! You guys are hardcore. I need my fruits to mask any greens i put it but today i was a bit more daring and added the juice of these veggies to my fruit blend: carrot, cucumber, beets, celery and spinach. I'm going to build on this combination and add more veggies while reducing my fruits. It's gonna take some time.
