I'm new to raw food, and it seems I am getting more and more confused w/ it.
As soon as I think I am eating all raw I find out what I though was raw is not.
Can any one tell me do the benefits of green tea out weigh the fact that its not raw?
Thanks so much

Hi Alive! Like your photo- SB rules:O) hee hee

For me eating Raw/Alive foods is for my overall health and well being. In each moment we as individuals are responsible for determining what our bodies need. If you feel the tea is beneficial to your health in this moment, then there is your answer;) Stress in our bodies is just as bad as filling ourselves with cooked, nutrient depleted food of any kind. Sometimes we forget that. Love yourself, take care of yourself and health is right there with you- always:)
I truly hope this helped and good luck on your journey.

You are right! I just want to make sure I'm doing the best for my health, and
since I'm new to raw ( about a month on and off ) I have a hard time knowing what my body is telling me.

I hear you, it takes awhile to get back 'in tune' with our bodies.
I'm sure you're doing great...taking steps is all it takes;)

I do not think that the benifits of green tea are as great as some believe but if you enjoy green tea and it helps you to stay raw then use it untill you are ready to do without it.
I continued to drink tea for a long time after I went raw because it helped me to transition.

I agree! I also read (can't remember where tho...) that raw cacao has 20x more antioxidants than green tea. That is why people drink it, yes? AHHHH, my brain is muddled with facts.... BTW ~ SB does RULE!! :D

I was drinking a lot of tea when I was SAD but when I went all raw with high water content foods I stopped drinking the tea without even thinking about it !!! The tea fell aside without effort or trying or even conscious awareness that I wasn't drinking it any more. I guess its all the water in my diet that does the trick (I don't dehydrate). Loosing the tea was a side benefit for me. :)

Lots of raw foodists avoid it because of the caffeine...white + red teas are caffeine free alternatives.

I continue to drink green tea though, because it helps keep my skin clear. I'm also still not over being a total caffeine junkie. Before I went raw I LIVED on coffee, I'm talking about 5-10 cups a day. Dear oh dear.

I wonder what effect caffeine has on the adrenal gland and the thyroid gland ?

I accidentally overcame my caffeine addiction, unbeknownst to myself, a while back. Not thinking, I bought green tea. I noticed that after drinking just a bit I was wired ALL DAY.

I figured out it was the caffeine. I made the same mistake with cacao...I can't eat cacao now because it makes me too hyper.

Green tea does contain caffeine:

The average cup of brewed coffee provides 60 to 160 mg of caffeine, a can of soda provides approximately 40 to 70 mg, and brewing a cup of black tea results in 20 to 90 mg, oolong has 10 to 45 mg and green tea caffeine is 6 to 30 mg.

So these days my only sources of caffeine are oolong and green teas and cacao. Not bad considering the coffee-addict I once was.

No not bad at all, iv been through phases of coffee but never been hooked on it, tea though,

is there any possibility of a 'good' caffine;)

I also still drink tea for now. Sometimes I need something warm in my tummy! I'm not sure I'll ever give it up. I was a big coffee drinker before, so I think giving that up deserves an A+ ! :D

Me too, not completely certain I'll give up my tea. ;) I've used herbal teas for homeopathic reasons for many years and I still haven't been able to let them go. So far, they don't seem to be having an ill effect on my health.

I drink loose teas that are steeped with ginger root, licorice root, peppermint, chamomile and ginseng.

I'm sure one day I will gradually phase them out, but for now it's my happy bed time and morning ritual to have a warm cup of tea.

Haa wishful thinking it is then:D

I can give up tea, aslong as i can drink hot water with lemon or something, is that acceptable?

Wow I have been drinking it now almost daily and my complexion is the best it has ever been. I never made the connection and I wonder if this is true about green tea helping the complexion. I thought it was just the raw food diet I was on! :)

Well obviously the rawness works wonders as well, but before I was raw, if I didn't drink green tea for a few days I'd start breaking out in spots!

I still drink herbal tea and the occasional white tea or mate, but green tea makes me dizzy for some reason (which it did not before I was raw)...

For me, giving up regular doses of caffeine has made such a difference in my life. I worked at Starbucks for five years and had SO MUCH caffeine sometimes. I even had a coffee maker at my bedside set to start making coffee 5 minutes before my alarm would go off so I wouldn't have to get up before drinking my coffee!!!

It still shocks me how much energy I have without any false stimulants.

All that said, when I do have the white tea (which is actually only 1% of the caffeine of coffee and really makes me feel good, has sooooo many antioxidants, much more than green tea... that might be an alternative to green tea) or the mate or even cacao, I don't freak out. And I enjoy it.

BUT.... it's all a matter of preference. If you feel good having the green tea, go for it! There are many raw foodists that make that choice, and there are some on the other side that even won't allow hot tea at all...

How do you feel with the green tea?? :)

I do love my tea and decaf just isn't the same sometimes....I sometimes allow myself small amounts during the day but it generally has a tangible effect that I think I would rather avoid in the long run. I do prefer herbal teas, so I have been trying to consciously buy more of those, which are caffeine-free naturally.

this may seem like a stupid question, but aside from containing caffeine, what are the negatives about drinking tea?

If I drink decaf tea, what exactly is harmful about that?

We all know that heating food causes chemical changes to it and the same thing is true of whatever you are using to make your tea.
We do not always know what effects these changes will have on our bodies.
