I am not new to raw foods. I was raw before and just a bit after the birth of my fourth child 5 months ago. For the past 5 months I have been about 75% raw, but need to go raw because the skin irritations I had prior to going raw are back. Plus, the energy you get from raw foods is unbelievable.
I have been trying some of the nut cheeses and they just don't taste that good to me, perhaps that is because my blender and food processor are crap. I have burnt out three blenders in 2.5 yrs. I was contemplating buying a vita-mix, but found conflicting review. However,I just read a post that the thorough mix you get from the vita-mix can change the taste. Any other opinions on this

I just had to GIVE up CHEESE>>>>I don't think you can get anything to taste like cheese. I KNOW I have an EDUCATED Palate. There are those who say, they can make recipes that taste like REAL cheese....:( ....Now I have no problem with living a cheeseless life.....I am quite Happy scence I stopped chasing the cheese ghost.
Please TRY making the recipes and try Veese for yourself.
I would bite the bullet and get a Vita-Mix...Jack Lalane has a New Blender out that sells for $149-, the informerical says it is right up there with the Vita-Mix.
I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW.......Welcome to MY World.

Aloha and Welcome to RFT!!! so glad that you have joined us! It sounds like you have quite a strong foundation under you -- you'll do great!
I have tried a couple of the 'just like cheese' recipes... not that I was chasing a 'cheese ghost' but ... it was called for in a recipe I was trying --- actually the spicy taco recipe floating around here on RFT.... (excellent recipe btw!)... and it called for sour creme... (made with cashews)... and absolutley delicious - very similar to the real thing... sorta... but PERFECT for the recipe... and excellent on the onion bread as a spread...
some day - I'm sure I will try some of the other just like cheese recipes... like maybe for pizza or something...
it will be interesting to see if you go with the vitamix...that has always been my 'dream blender'.... perhaps someday!!
rawk on ... and enjoy the ride!

I have been mostly raw since August and bought a vita-mix about a month ago. Making smoothies is MUCH easier and clean up is easier as well.
Welcome to RFT! I have a vitamix and yes it does help with the consistency! But I still haven't found a great cheese recipe yet.
