View Full Version : New from Michigan!
Hi everyone! I see that there are some others here from Michigan. I live in Grand Blanc and there is not much support for a raw food diet around here. I learned about this way of eating from all the research I have done since my 3 year old son was diagnosed with cancer last July. He is not really eating too much raw food yet, but I am working on it. He is a really picky eater. Right now he only wants noodles and french toast! He just finished chemotherapy treatment last week and he is doing well. He is still nursing so I figure that if I am healthy he will get better quality milk from me. Anyway, I just wanted to say hello and maybe meet some others from my area.

Oh my gosh!!! My mom and I are from Grand Blanc but now we live in the Nashville, TN area!!! We lived off of Hill Rd. between Howe and Genessee!!! What a small world!! LOL!!!
Congratulations on your transition......if you didn't know already, CHI is located in MI and now that I know that, I wish I had been raw while I lived in MI!!!! Here's their link: http://www.creativehealthinstitute.us/
I bet there are others that you just aren't aware that are raw in GB. I found out a lady at my church is Raw (Helen of TN) after going to church with her for 3 years!!! I never knew her and then met her after searching about raw on the internet!!! It's a really small world and I bet the longer you're at it, the more people you'll meet!
If you contact CHI maybe they might know of other raw fooders in GB.
Good luck!!!

HI!
I'm not in MI, and am instead in San Antonio moving to Kansas City in August (both aren't the most hospitable Raw Food places, but oh well!)
Congrats on your crossover into the Raw! Good for you, and best of luck with Baby. What a wonder and responsible mother you are, and courageous, too! Congratulations!
I'm meeting more and more people, and everyone here seems just rawsome!
Good to meet you!
Aubrey
Wow Raeannasun! I lived in Fountain Pointe for awhile. I'm sure you know where that is and now I live just past Hill and Belsay Rd. That is weird. Do you like TN? We are thinking of moving south also. Aubrey, thanks for the compliments. Ya know, it's scary sitting in the cancer infusion room watching parents feed their kids Soda Pop, candy, and fast food. It is like you just want to stand up and say something. There are soooooo many kids with cancer. My son is getting a Wish from Make A Wish and he has to wait months because they are so backed up granting wishes for kids with cancer. Sometimes I feel like the only one who sees that there is a problem here! It is frustrating. I feel like I should be doing something to make people more aware, but I am not sure what it is! Anyway, so far I love this raw way of life!

I moved to TN when I was 17 to attend college near Chattanooga. I met my husband in school and his family lives in Nashville and I LOVE Nashville! I visited Nashville/Franklin when I was about 15 or 16 to look at colleges and I remember thinking that I would like to live here someday! Now I am!!! My mom and dad stayed in MI while I was in school so that my brothers could finish high school with their friends, and now that my youngest bro is in the Air Force Academy, my mom and dad moved down to be close! My middle brother also lives here in Nashville and works in the Contemporary Christian Music Industry. Sometimes I miss Michigan (the west side of the state) but I really feel at home down here!
My grandma and grandpa lived in Fountain Pointe while I was a little girl!!! I remember taking walks around the complex with them! I think my grandma's sister still lives there.
Is your son at Genesis? (Is that how you spell it? I think there's a "y" in there somewhere.) I'll keep him in my prayers. What is his wish for "Make a Wish?"

Hi Suzi,
I'm so glad you are aware of what raw foods can do for you and your son. You know that the cancer will never return as your son won't be feeding the cancer with bad foods. I'm so excited for the both of you!
Like RaeAnna mentioned; you will be surprised at how many rawfooders are around you, it's just the matter of finding them. A year ago I was posting on the main raw food board trying to find raw fooders in this area (Nashville, TN). I found a total of 7 in Tennessee with only 1 near me. Well know I know a ton of them. We have raw potluck dinners where about 30 people show up for them (RawAnna, the one you went to in the park is the smallest group we ever had). You might want to check with CHI, like RawAnna recommended. You might also want to check the big raw food board and see if there are others that have posted over there from your area. Also go to the health food stores in your area as they have free magazines and you can find groups through them and you might be able to post something on their bulletin boards to find others who are interested in raw foods.
I'm from Kalamazoo, MI. Moved to Tennessee about 12 years ago and I LOVE it down here. Like RaeAnna mentioned, she found me on a website and e-mailed back and forth with me, only to find out our neighbor hoods are onliy 3/4 of a mile from each other and that we attended the same church for 3 years. So I know there are plenty of others in your area. You'll find them.

My son is being treated at Mott Children's Hospital. He does get blood drawn at Genesys sometimes, but I don't think they even treat kids cancer there. I think Hurley does. If any of you want to check out his webpage it is http://www.caringbridge.org/mi/cooper. I think I am finally getting through to him about what foods are good and what ones aren't. My 7 yr old is really into eating healthy. Raeannasun and Helen, your pictures look great. I wish i would have taken a before picture. I really didn't have a ton of weight to lose. Probably about 20 lbs. I am probably half way there. I don't have a scale. I just go by the mirror and my clothes! I am mostly concerned about my hair that is starting to gray and my wrinkles from all the worrying! My husband was also in a car accident 6 years ago so I have had my share! I think I am starting to look better. After we gave up coffee and sugar I had alot of people say that I looked happy! Helen, your grandson is cute and his name was one of my favorite boys names (Bryson)!
