I just visited with my mom this weekend and she is coming to stay in town at my daughter's house for two weeks. She has two huge pill holders that are chock full of medications that she takes morning and night. On the ride in with her, I asked about the many pills and their use. She is 77 years old. about 5'4" and weighs around 120. She is perfectly able to get around and can drive. She does not have any actual disease and the pills are just the end product of doctor visits over the years. She has had heart palpatations and one was a "heart pill" to regulate her heart beat. One was for acid reflux. But there were so many! I don't think she even knows what they're all for.
Since I have been following the posts on this board for the past three months and have reached the 75% stage, I was just wondering if there are any folks who are in their 70's - 80's who can talk about the diet's effect on their medicines and health. It seems that many of the people drawn to this lifestyle come due to bouts with cancer or some other illness but I don't hear many older people posting.
My own problem is Arthritis and I still dream of gradually getting more into the recipes and someday saying it has healed me. But although I am eating much better than the distructive, huge, addiction to sugar\fried\processed, total emotional eating I used to indulge in, I am equally far from the all raw that the books claim cause the changes. Only made 8 consecutive days so far.
I'd really love to hear lots of responses. Thinking that pill container is waiting for me as I age was very depressing.

Well, you have made 8 consecutive days! That is great. Keep up the good work - sometimes it is hard!! - and you will feel the results. Please keep us posted on your ups and downs.

Blessings.

Great thread--I've been contempalting on working my mother who is in her early 60's to go raw. Best wishes to you and hopefully we will hear more from raw fooders in their 60-70's :)

It seems that what you're really asking is how can you stay raw so that you can reap the benefits of a healed, healthy, vital body. I think we are all after that. Ya know, Alissa posted a great statement on just that earlier in the year that might be helpful. It is here:

But!!! First -- you just gotta read this thread, the link to which is below. You're going to just love it -- and it'll lighten it all up a bit, maybe:
