Coconuts in the UK?

Hello, I live in Reading and I never see coconuts in the supermarkets, in fact anywhere except Chinatown, which is a bit of a trek. Ordering them off the internet isn't that possible as I don't have a credit card. Any tips for picking them up? Much appreciated x

hi, if you mean young coconuts they did have them in Tesco for 99p, however this was about 3 or 4 weeks ago. maybe they are only having them in the so called summer months?

Ah, the only Tesco's near me is a tiny Tesco's express. I have Waitrose, Sainsbury's and Morrisons too, but haven't seen any there! It's a shame, Waitrose is usually good for exotic-type things. Maybe it is only the summer months!

I've seen regular coconuts at Morissons and Asda, but no young coconuts.

Ah, that's a good idea, Tesco Online. I never thought of that.

Otherwise, if you're in London, you can get them at the new Whole Foods in Kensington High Street -- wicked price, £4.99 each, but I was thrilled to buy a couple and at last try this delicacy.

I've bought young coconuts from the big Tescos (Kings Meadow) in the past for 99p. They were ok I think but then I didn't have anything to compare it to. It was a bit of an event to get them open.

I have a friend who goes to the Oriental Supermarket near Macro so keep meaning to ask if they do them there.

Look out for the asian/chinese supermarkets. You know the ones with sacks full of rice and spices. I asked in my local one but i have to say Tesco online seems a great idea

I'm in East Reading too shooting star! I'm just on the edge of Woodley. We might just be the only 2 raw foodies in Reading...any raw pot lucks we have may be a bit empty :o

I forgot there was a Tesco's at King's Meadow - how long do you reckon it'd take to walk there from the town centre?

Debbie who runs the yahoo raw food discussion group is from Emmer Green which is just north of reading.

mmmm - tescos from town centre I'd guess 15 - 20 minute walk (but don't quote me on that). Might seem longer on the way back with a bunch of coconuts!
