I have been eating 75-90% raw about the last 4 months or so. The last few days I have had terrible mood swings! I am depressed and have been cutting myself down constantly. I just feel bad about myself for no good reason! My boyfriend said I am being to hard on myself and I should be proud because I have lost 15 lbs but I still feel depressed :( . Is this normal? Shouldn't I be feeling great? Thanks for any input.

Opinion:
-Food does not 'manipulate' your emotions - and there is no way to 'feel' happy on a long-term basis by manipulating your diet. The only thing that CAN do that is setting good, VERY short term goals.....that you are motivated to set.....and keeping them.
-A healthy diet ameliorates the 'fight or flight' response and eases imbalances in the system.....but is only a tool toward a more passionate and joyful goal (whatever YOU decide that goal to be).
-Also: addressing underlying issues.......with family or early childhood abandonment / abuse / neglect...........through group, family and/or individualized therapy is certainly a good thing.
-Power and success to you.

I think your diet really does affect your mood and behavior. When I started eating raw foods I did feel a kind of high then after a few months I felt a real low. I did a lot of motivational reading to keep me going through the low times. There are a lot of good books out there to get you thinking and excited about your life and goals. You just have to believe that you are on a amazing journey to looking your best, good health, and the best life ever!

I have noticed a huge difference in my mood when I am 100% raw verses 'high raw'.... I also notice a HUGE difference when I am not taking BVitamins with B12.
what are you eating that is not raw? If you are making wise choices... say vegan (beans lentils...etc... even lean meats....) I think this is better than dairy, cheeses etc... but that's just my opinion.
personally - if I have any dairy or ANY meat - and I mean just a bite here and there... I FULLY feel it in my body. For me PERSONALLY... there is a huge reaction to it - and I get very cranky and depressed. (I actually get quite 'blue' and want to cry...)
but your bf is right ... don't be hard on yourself... you are making wise choices, eating healthier... and losing weight...!!! SO -- BE GLAD OF ALL THE POSITIVE CHANGES YOU'VE MADE AND ARE MAKING... http://i149.photobucket.com/albums/s43/FireStar_830/bigthumbup.gif
this is a journey -- and we all go thru ups and downs as we process emotions, issues and working towards finding our balance in the foods we eat!
blessings on your journey...

Food definetely causes mood swings. Yes, I am at that place right now and have been there since yesturday.
I've been raw for almost 4 mos. and it's been alot of up's and downs, for sure.
Ihave been wondering the same thing. when a craving hits for SAD and I DON'T give in, I then feel a bunch of mood swings coming on. Not unlike a child who is used to having candy at the store and her mother tells her, finally, "no, you can't have that, it's bad for you!", LOL.
I don't know how many times I've had to tell myself, "No, you cant have that SAD pie, ect.
Maybe this is a detox of some form.?

Dj do you have the names of the books?
I am not sure if I have PMS or what but if it is I haven't had this depression and wanting to cry before!
I do mostly stay raw and if I eat cooked food it is usually a veggie dish but I do break down once in awhile and have a little meat (then feel horrible afterwards). Not sure if it is detox but if it is it can get the heck on out of here now!

More energy and more detox and more "life force" and this all translates into more emotional response. As I have gotten more pure raw I have noticed that the music sounds better and I have more of a reaction to it, its like waking up and moving to a higher level of "aliveness". Along with that increase in aliveness has also come more of a feeling of connection to my emotions. I just feel things deeper. For example when someone posts of a physical / mental problem they are going through I feel it more then I did when I was functioning at a lower level of aliveness. The highs feel higher and the lows feel lower so like your boyfriend said don't be hard on yourself. Try to focus on the positive.
