View Full Version : Sudden distaste for my veggies.

Hey everyone,
I'm new to the raw scene, I've been doing it about a month now. I haven't had a real big issue with craving cooked foods, plus I hate to cook so it has been working out very well. ( minus 9 lbs too! )
At the very beginning I was loving my salads and raw veggies!! The tomatoes, the cukes, the zuchinni's, the bell peppers, the various leafy greens, aaaah! yum!
However...the last week or so the thought of putting these things in my mouth make me nauseous. I'm suddenly turned off by the olive oil that I drizzle on it, and the cucumber that I loved so much makes me queasy trying to eat it. All I really want is fruit.
What's up with this? Has anyone had a drastic change in raw preference? From reading the forums I suppose I should just listen to what my body wants, even if it's all fruits for a little while? I'm trying to be a good girl and eat my leafy's, but yuck and barf. I can't believe I feel that way about my veggies :(
Just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience!

Believe it or not, our bodies go through changes ALLLLLL the time like that! Sometimes you may get on this major smoothie kick and then all of a sudden, you get tired of them...same with salads or nuts or...
So, go with the flow...more than likely it's just a temporary phase/stage your body is going through and perhaps you NEED more fruit at this time and when your body needs the veggies, you'll more than likely no longer feel such a disdain for them. If you just really feel the need to get some type of veg in, consider a green powder from Alissa's store and add a smidgen of that to your smoothies or just drink smoothies with a little bit of greens added in. But I'd say to just go with it for the time being and see where it leads you.

Hey spiff....I hear ya loud and clear! I actually just briefly addressed this very issue in my blog a few days ago. All my body seems to want is fruit and raw chocolate! I forced myself to eat a salad when I was feeling this way, and I swear, I had to choke down each and every bite, because I thought I "needed" it. The thing is (and Shine helped me see this) your body knows what's up. If you're craving fruit and only fruit, eat it up, baby. It's not like all you want to eat is doughnuts and chips.....it's fruit for pete's sake!!:D In my experience, I'm still in fruit mode, but am now eating a few more veggie dishes. Who knows, it may stay this way for weeks, or be over tomorrow....just go with the flow. I'm still trying to get over the idea that I need 'x' amount of certain things everyday (protein/fat/carbs)....it's all conditioning....we have to reprogram ourselves, and get back to intuitive eating. Don't worry, you're not alone here....just do what feels right for you, and everything will turn out fine!

Yeah, been there several times. Follow what your body wants. Was on a white grapefruit kick a while back that last over a month. Then one day--couldn't pay me to eat one. Complete swing to loading up the smoothies with as many greens as possible and eating Alissa's spinach dip for all the other meals. Then I switched off to heavier nut pates and such. Your body will tell you what it wants/needs. It took me a long time to start listening.

I have absolutely gone through this several times. Mine tends to be seasonal usually (High fruit when it's warm--High veg when it's cooler). Listening to my body works for me. I suggest you eat the fruit & purchase foods in smaller quantities, so that you can guage what your body is craving w/o wasting lots of money.

You sound bored with the veggies. Cukes tomatoes and greens are just too darn plain to eat all the time. This is why I burn out on raw easily - not enough variety. I stick to the veggies I know. Why not make it a point to try a new veg/fruit every week?
I bought a mango for this week :P Next week I'm thinking starfruit!

I have not reached 100% raw but have been doing raw smoothies here and there. I wish i loved raw veggies but if i said that i wouldn't be telling the truth. I am just starting out and variety is important to me. I cant have smoothies all day and be satisfied. Maybe when ive been raw for longer that is what my body will crave, but as for now i like to eat my food. The only way i get my greens is through smoothies, but today i bought ani phyo's uncook book. Now i will be able to make veggie burgers, soups, etc and they should be pretty tasty. Before when i was just experimenting, nothing i uncooked tasted good. This is my solution, maybe you can purchase an uncook book and get some recipes going and eat your veggies that way. Hope this helps.

Amazing isn't it? So many of us have experienced the same thing! Yep... phases... I think you feel it when you are very in tune with your body. I find myself eating the same thing for days, sometimes weeks and loooving every bite!! then all of a sudden - bam... my body says -- NOPE... I'm done ~ no more of that.... thankyou very much! and I find myself going on some other thing... for me -- I think it has to do with something my body is needing nutritional wise from whatever it is that I'm eating at the time.
I went thru a flax cracker phase - morning ~ noon ~ night ~ inbetween meals -- it was all I wanted ... that and lots and lots of water. then as suddenly as it started.. it ended and I haven't eaten a flax cracker in months! :D
go with the flow honey!! you're doin great!!

Thanks for everyone who replied. It helped me remember there were days when I'd run out of veggies and I'd be eating fruit when what I really wanted were my veggies!
I suppose I was really surprised on how quickly and drastically my love affair with veggies changed...
Trying to evolve from that SAD's thinking. Taste change for your body's nutritional reasons. In my SAD's diet, my taste changed because things like cooked oatmeal was boring to begin with!

My 4 month affair with salads and greens is just about over. My eyes are straying in the produce department. Also,I have just received the new raw oatmeal from Alissa's store and plan on meeting with it for breakfast in the morning. I feel a new love affair coming on!

I unfortunately crave nuts a bunch lately. I try not to give in so much but I always find myself grabbing a handful:(
