Hey gang, I have a question: Does anyone out there have issues with fruit? Unfortunately I can't eat fruit anymore because it gives me some serious sugar cravings for cookies, cake, pie, anything sugary!! I noticed I did gain a few lbs. when I started eating fruit.:( What to do???I couldn't figure out why I was having these cravings, then I thought about all the fruit I was eating! Citrus fruit and bananas give me migraines so I can't eat them, either!! Thanks in advance for any help, Sciencegal:D

Hmmm...I've never experienced this with fruit before but as I just said in another thread, our bodies DO go through phases/stages sometimes and perhaps you just need to cut back on fruit for the time being, not to say it will be a permanent thing...maybe it's something your body needs OR...I was also thinking that be-CAUSE fruit is very cleansing for the body and I've read many times, many places that when we begin to crave junky foods, usually it means our body is actually trying to get rid of old gunk from old junk and as it's trying to pass out of our systems, we start craving it. Soooo...could be that you are just in a more deep-cleansing mode and your body is having these massive cravings because of it.

But fruit is NOT a "bad guy"...it's our natural food! :)

I think that you should persist and experiment because if you go without fruit I think it will be harder to stay raw.

I have experienced similar feelings, and tend to agree with Rawkinlocks's words of wisdom. I have found that for me when I rally through the cravings for cooked while eating the raw foods that appeal most to me, those cooked cravings subside after a little time (of course every body is different). Hope that helps!

Hmm, well fruits do have more of an impact on blood sugar than veggies and nuts, so you could try keeping it to fruits with a lower glycemic impact, such as cherries, dried apricots, prunes, apples, pears, plums and peaches, and avoiding fruits like pineapple, mango, raisins and watermelon - and the worst (however yummy) offender, dates.

Your cravings may not be down to this but it might help!

Hi there, i'm glad you are getting some hopeful answers and sorry to rain in on them but i have been high raw for 4 months and have tried both ways and i KNOW that (for now) fruit is not in the line-up.....it is frustrating to me that everyone is so resistant to that because that is the reality for MANY of us right now and it does not change our commitment to giving the raw diet it's fair trial

if a body has liver, pancreatic, or pre-cancerous/cancerous issues, gut flora imbalance, parasites etc it will IN SOME CASES not tolerate fruit well

everyone says "listen to the body"

my body has said no fruit (for now)

yes... unfortunately... I have severe allergic reactions to most sugary fruits. I can eat one variety of banana (a local variety called applebanana - which is actually not very sweet ....it's kinda tart / sweet and quite yummy!) I can also eat coconuts, and grapefruit, lemons, limes, and well... that's about it.

when I have fruit I have intense headaches, off the chart sugar cravings, restless leg syndrome (which is horrible), intense vertigo, extreme exhaustion and fatigue, if I've ingested a lot of hi sugar fruit - like mango I will almost act like I am drugged and become confused, lethargic and fall into deep sleep and cannot stay awake. When i finally do wake up - I am disoriented, dizzy and very very confused.

I was tested by a homeopath and that's how it was discovered what was going on with me. So - since cutting back on all fruit except for apple bananas, coconut and an occasional grapefruit... I'm doing great. no headache, no vertigo, no confusion, no restless leg syndrome.... and no sugar cravings.

it's kinda a bummer - living in Paradise with exotic fruit growing in my yard, lychee, mangos, papayas, watermelon, pineapple... and I can't eat any of it...!! :( I have a treat now and again -- but I do pay dearly for it... so those 'treats' are few and far between!!!

the homeopath said my reaction was very severe and very unusual.

hope yours is more along the lines of your body just detoxing.... cuz this allergy thing sucks! You learn to work with it... and find other things that you enjoy eating... but I reaaaaly loooved fruit!! -- oh well.... it is what it is... perhaps in the future - my body will change and fruit will be back on the menu!

btw... like sport suggested to you... when I first went raw in April 2007 I did really try to eat fruit. I tried, and tried... it's just not in the cards for me right now. So-I listen to my body and give it what it needs and wants, lots of greens, salads....

there's a lot of wonderful raw things that I have found to eat .. it has not been hard at all (for me) to stay raw... I love fruit - and I miss it... but the trade off is not worth it for me...

eat fruit - be miserable and feel like I'm in a drugged state... or avoid fruit - eat greens, be healthy ~ happy ~ vibrant while enjoying the adventure of the raw foods lifestyle--- and having fun too!!

Its all a matter of perspective I suppose! RAWK ON.... !!

like starfire i really did try with the fruit.....because i had been sugar free for so long 8 months already and had been raw for a month i did much better than i used to ....none of the fatigue and mental stuff but i still gained weight and got really bloated.....three people asked me if i was pregnant and after the bloating went down i had another friend tell me that people had been asking her if i was!!!!
I am 5'6'' and weigh about 140

it didn't make any sense

so i stopped the fruit for a month or 2 the bloating went down

i tried the fruit again as i was still raw the whole time and wanted to try it to make things easier and have more options and the same thing happened all over again

i have been off of all fruit now for about a month, i've lost 7 lbs and feel like i am getting my body back

love to the greens!!!

good luck xoox spiral leana

And Spiral Leana, I agree with you both. I get so sleepy and lethargic, plus I get really bloated-like someone just hit me with a ton of bricks!! So you can imagine what I would feel like in my classes where I need intense concentration (like math and chem.) Yeah, this has happened to me previously when I tried to go raw before-every time I've tried- Starfire at least you can have some citrus- I can't even have that, because I get serious migraines!! It's so frustrating,I need to find a way to do the raw diet, or else it just won't happen for me. Thanks ladies!!:) Sciencegal:eek: :D

I eat lots of bananas - in banana ice cream - I'm addicted to banana ice cream !!!

But I don't really like other fruit. It makes me feel sick.

I eat lots of veggies & seeds. :)

A lot of these allergies to fruit are probably due to other issues that maybe a fast or cleanse or series of them may help with. It's not natural to be allergic to something that nature created for us so there has to be something else behind it.

We've decided it best to close this thread off for now.
