View Full Version : Looking for a 'wholemeal toast' recipe...

The comfort food that always trips me up is thin, crisp wholemeal toast with butter.

Anyone got a decent recipe for something that resembles this? For the 'butter' I'm quite happy with unfiltered olive oil which I allow to solidify in the fridge. That's not a problem.

But I would love to get a really good bread/toast recipe, maybe using sprouted buckwheat as the base.

I make onion bread, and plain flax crackers, and they're lovely for some things, but I'm looking for something more similar to real bread, without a strong vegetable or flax flavour.

If anyone can help me, it will make all the difference to me and my ability to stay raw...

Thank you in advance...

There's a recipe here> http://therawchefblog.com/the-best-thing-since-sliced-bread/ that I've heard is awesome, but I've never made it myself. It uses sun-dried tomatoes but the other vegetables it uses are pretty mild and there's no flax...probably not what you're looking for but it does look really good!

If you've never tried manna bread (there's some debate as to whether its truly raw but its certainly a step in the right direction) you might want to give it a try, I think it's probably the closest thing you're going to get to real bread!

Thank you, subbacultcha, I agree, it looks yummy. I'll give it a try. I'm also going to try making 'toast' from Alissa's calzone dough recipe and see what happens...

I've found that including pecans as a base really helps give bread that buttery flavor.

Oh, that's a good idea, Allison. I'll give it a try.

Today I made a batch of Alissa's burger bread and spread it thin, but the smell of it cooking really put me off big-time. I don't think the buckwheat in this quite does it for me though I must say the dough looked wonderful while I was mixing it.

Lily,
I got side tracked for a few hours earlier by going there, looking for bread recipes. WOW, check it out! Essene bread recipes with pictures, lots of little details and good warm foodie humor. I can't wait to try some, The pizza bread with kalamata olive, did me in. You can click on the pictures, and get a very good look, I'm just warning you ahead of time.
