Energy Soup
One peeled apple (or use watermelon plus white rind in the summertime)
One cup rejuvelac or pure water. (If using pure water, add juice of 1/2 lemon)
One half handful of red dulse (red seaweed) For those who are vegan, salt to taste instead.
One cup of sprouts and greens (sunflower or buckwheat greens can be used.)
Optional: One handful of sprouted mung, adzuki, and peas can add protein to the soup.
Blend all together lightly. Add 1/2 avocado
Blend again until smooth. Enjoy.
I found it here:http://www.wheatgrasskits.com/issue14.htm
It looks great health-wise, could make a nice lunch. But I've never had sprouts and I haven;t had raw soup yet and the idea of putting an apple in a soup seems interesting. Has anyone tried it? What does it taste like, is it good?

I have been doing a variation of this almost every morning for almost 3 years.
This is not your regular "soup". It is what I would call a green smoothie. It has a slightly sweet taste, as well as a real fresh taste from the greens. You have to play with it a bit to get the right texture and flavor that appeals to you.
I have a KTec blender and here is what I do to make a blender full, about 4-5 cups.
I put about 2-3 cups of water-with-lemon or thin pineapple juice. The amount of liquid depends on whether you want it thinner or thicker texture. Personally, I like it about the texture of a medium thick milkshake. Not too runny. But not too thick either. If it is too thick it almost gags you.
I never peel the apple. The "recipe" I use says to use a red-skinned apple and leave the skin on.
I also use a banana.
And 1/2 an avocado. This is important because it gives it the right creamy texture. When I am out or forget to put it in, I really notice it. It tends to separate and just taste too watery or sharp or something. It really mellows it.
I put in some "beany sprouts" like sunflower sprouts, buckwheat or pea sprouts, or lentil sprouts, which I grow myself -probably about 1/2 cup (total) -a little handful. Then the same amount of "little seed" sprouts like brocolli sprouts, alfalfa, etc. Whatever you like and have on hand.
Some kelp or dulse etc.
I use a good handful each of parsley and cilantro. Major blood cleansing. The cilantro gives just the slightest touch of licorice or anise flavor. I love it, but some hate it.
Then I really fill it up with at least 2 cups of greens like spinach, kale, Swiss Chard, lettuce or whatever. The darker green the better. (Cut the hard spines out if there are any, like in the kale)
After blending it smooth, I put it into Thermos-type containers. I have one, my husband has one and a friend comes by every morning for one. It keeps me going until the mid-late afternoon.
Yes, it is healthy. Yes it is filling. You can mix and match the sprouts and greens. You can leave something out if you don't like it or don't have it on hand. You can add something else that seems appealing. I have added bee pollen, Matcha Tea powder, ginger, wheatgrass juice, etc. etc.
This is a real powerhouse and is supposed to be really good for those with cancer (or for those trying to prevent getting it).

Thank you Tirza! Your reply is VERY helpful. I'm going to give it a try the way you suggested. I think I'll have one for my lunches.

You're very welcome.
Another couple of things I do - I toss bananas in the freezer if they get ripe and I know they won't be used before they get over-ripe. The frozen banana in the smoothie makes it stay really cold and thick.
I also wash my greens, my parsley and my cilantro, spin them dry and put them in the freezer. When frozen I kind of press on the bags and the frozen stuff just shatters into crumbs. It makes it really easy to measure them and keep the ingredient measurements uniform. Also helps keep it cold and thick.
Alberta, eh? Where? I spent 6 weeks in Red Deer this summer and will be going to Edmonton soon.

Tirza, thank you for the information about freezing the greens. What a great idea! Do you think it is necessary to spin them? Could I freeze them without the spinning?

Hey, I just came back here to edit my comment about that, when I saw your question!
One thing I love about freezing the greens is that when I crush them after they are frozen, they take up MUCH less room in the freezer.
Whether you spin them, shake them, drain them, air-dry them or towel-dry them, get them as dry as possible. I would not freeze them without doing that now. I have done it in the past just with draining them in the colander and no matter how well I thought they had drained, I ended up with a bag that has a solid oddly shaped ice cube with leafy fossils in it in the bottom. That isn't fun. Although it might make the smoothie more icy when blended!
Gittel, eh? My third granddaughter in Jerusalem is Gitel (3 years). She's a "good" one! Do you get Gitty? Many around here do. My granddaughter doesn't.

I also add banana - it makes it taste nice, without it it's palatable but not a treat and I find it hard to drink more than a glass. With banana it reminds me of weetabix (a breakfast cereal in the UK, big blocks of wheat you mix up with milk) with honey. But thats probably just me.
I don't use rejuvelac because I'm gluten-intolerant and haven't managed to sprout rice yet to make rice rejuvelac.
So I use -
1 cup water
1 cup sprouted beans/lentils
2 cups sunflower greens
1 banana
small handful of weeds - at the moment thats all I can manage to consume without throwing up. Apparantly if you consume greens for long enough, you'll be able to tolerate them, but its taking a long time for me. Shop-bought greens I'm fine with but weeds make me violently sick over and over. Never known anything like it.
spinach/romaine. Any other green changes the taste and then its hard to drink too much.
spoonful of dulse
half an avocado
Like this its a treat to drink but I have weird tastes - my mother hates it. For her I have to be sneaky. I give her her favourite blackberry pudding (banana, blackberries and avocado or coconut oil) and add beansprouts and sunflower greens to it. She's never noticed!
I always noticed after eating sprouts I had more energy which surprised me because I was a sceptic and didn't really believe the "living" food hype.
Then I tried blended sprouts as above and oh my goodness!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can feel the electricity going round my body. The buzz, the electric charge is unmistakable. It really does work.

I came across this thread while searching for a substitute for Rejuvelac. Has anybody here tried making the Energy Soup recently? How's the taste? Tirza's recipe sounds interesting.

.... why is seaweed not vegan?
I believe it is because 'strict' vegans may be concerned about the possibility of tiny sea creatures and bits of shells being embedded in the seaweed. It's all scooped up, washed, dried, etc., and some of the living creatures may die during that, whether they are actually in the seaweed you get or not.
I personally just eat the d**n seaweed.
