I decided to start eating Raw because my body is getting worse year after year. I'm done with the way I eat right now. At 5 ft I can't let myself keep creeping on the scale.
I have a bunch to learn so I'm going to take it slow.
I've been on every diet there is... and this is the first time where I'm not dreading the change. I'm looking forward to eating healthier and being healthier!

WELCOME!!! It's bad at all! Just remember your goals & stay strong!! My 1st real test was when someone sitting near me at work had a bag of microwaved popcorn!!!! I jsut kept sayin to myself, "Do you wanna get popcorn and have to start this over again? You keep starting over!!" I left the popcorn alone and I'm a bettr person for it!!
Good luck and I'll be looking for your posts!!!;)

Everyone is different so keep looking for the right RAW lifestyle for you. If you fall then try to learn something from it if you can and continue on. Perseverance wins.

Oh man welcome! I'm 5 ft tall too!
My advice:
don't think of raw as a diet, think of it as FREEDOM.
You can eat whatever you want, so long as it's raw (and vegan :D )
The raw desserts are to die for, and you'll be surprised - after a week or so, you'll be so satisfied you'll wonder why you never found raw before!
:)
For some recipe recommendations, I'll suggest this chili:
2 carrots
2 cups celery
1 red pepper
1/4 to 1/2 cup leek (I use 1-2 shallots instead)
Add about 1/4 cup olive oil (I don't even use the olive oil) and a touch of Celtic salt, stir it up and put it in your dehydrator for an hour.
During that time in the food processor add:
1/2 cup soaked sun dried tomatoes (I add more)
4 tomatoes
2 avocados
1 T ginger
little more Celtic salt
2 T Chili powder ( I add more)
2 t ground cumin
and cayenne (anywhere from a titch to 2 t of the stuff. HOT!)
Mix this with the veggies above and put it back in the dehydrator for one more hour.
So good, so quick. Yum.
and....
a blended young coconut. I hope you can find them, they are a TREAT.

Nice to "meet" you!! ;) It's a lifestyle, and yes, it's all about freedom! Yay! When you're done with the old way, you're just done. I know exactly what you mean. I was excited to get started! I researched this lifestyle for about 14 months or so before jumping in! You'll love it, and the results will keep you on track! Just don't let yourself get bogged down by detox, that'll pass!! Best wishes!

What did everyone start out by eating the first week of going Raw? Right now all I have is a food chopper... so I'm kind of limited.
What do you suggest?

I followed the 30 day plan that is laid out in Alissa's book... cuz well, I didn't know what to do -- what to eat. It was so creative, the food was delicious, it was fun to prepare (and easy)... lol... she even gives you a shopping list! :D following that plan - I lost 30 pounds my first month raw! RAWKIN AWESOME!!! I ate as much as I wanted, loved the food and STILL lost weight!

What do you suggest?I find that the simpler I keep things the better. Simple raw means less time preparing food, less equipment, less clean up, and the better it works.
Edit: For simple raw a pocket knife helps and when looking for food you need look no further then the produce section of any store that stocks foods that are grown in the earth. Also many foods can be found growing naturally all around you.

Honestly? Well, we were so low on funds when we took the plunge, that we just ate produce as is. And made salads with some salad dressing recipes that I found in the recipe section of this board. There's one with ACV, Nama Shoyu, and chili powder that's still the favorite around here. It doesn't need a processor, you just wisk the ingredients together.
I would suggest that the first purchase would be a food processor. Alissa says in her book that she tested out every recipe using only a food processor and they all worked. Not saying you might not get better results with a $500 blender on some of those recipes, but the point is they will work with the food processor! It's been 12 weeks for us & that's all I've used too. I have a large Hamilton Beach one, about $40 at Target or Walmart, and a small one for smaller amounts which was $25 at Costco, and sells for $35 everywhere else since it's a Cuisenart.
We did it backwards, eating very simply at first till we could afford the nuts & seeds & dates, etc and the food processor. Well, I already had the big one but had never used it- we only needed to buy the little one. But money was so tight, it took weeks to get to a point of really doing recipes.
