In one of my raw cookbooks (Rawsome by Brigitte Mars) it gives the recipe for the Master Cleanser by Stanley Burroughs. It says to use Maple Syrup or raw honey or soaked dates. So I decided to start doing this today. Made up the whole gallon as this book says, mixed with lemon juice etc...... Now my problem is that this stuff is horrible!! yuck spew spit!! lol And after trying to drink it all day (only got 2 glasses done in like 7 hrs, I'm ready to toss in the towel. But my other problem is that I followed some links posted here in other postings and have now read things that my book didn't tell me. Firstly I read that you should never use honey!! Why would my book say you could use it if you can't?? Also doing the salt water wash every morning, drinking some type of tea at night to help with elimination (my book never mentioned any of this) and then I started reading postings on the forum and OMG!! they've scared me half to death!......I'm pretty sure I don't want to continue this now cuz I doubt I've got everything I need to continue.
So my question is........can you do this cleanse just using the lemonaide or do you have to do all the other stuff as well??? If so I guess my day is wasted and I'd better rethink this whole thing. After reading about some horrible stuff happening I'm not ready to go thru all that since I just found out my sister and mother are coming into town to stay with me for 2 days and since we're just re-establishing our relationship I don't want to be "under the weather and miserable" while trying to do this cleanse.
Anyone got some help for me with this??
Thanks

I have the book Master Cleanse by S. Burroughs and he reccomends a salt water flush in the am and a bowel moving tea at night (and in the am if you aren't pooping). He reccomends maple syrup as it has some mineral content.
One big thing I learned, make the lemonade-lemons, water, maple syrup, wnough for the day but ADD THE CAYANNE AS YOU DRINK IT OR IT WILL GET VERY, VERY HOT!!!!!!!!!!
He keeps it pretty simple, though.
Good luck.

Hey SKi ~ a day is never a waste, trust me. Using honey or maple syrup is a personal choice - I use agave myself as I just prefer the taste. And I always add the cayenne to the glass after I've poured it. Good luck!

I had to give it up......my stomach was rolling and I had a very sore throat and I dump it all down the sink. I figured I better think this whole MC thru more before I went with it. I can see now how prepared one has to be for this. I thought I was since all I'd read seemed to be the exact same recipe I had in my RAWSOME book and the author thanked S. Burroughs for the recipe. What it didn't tell me was what was going to happen and to put the cayenne in each glass not the whole gallon. It said to drink this recipe all day. Oh yeah like that was gonna happen NOT!! It was not a successful start I gotta tell ya. Of course now if I decide to do it again DH will not be supportive after this attempt. He says 'do it under a doctors guidance". I just think that there alot of stuff bunged up inside that needs to be released and just eating raw isn't going to get rid of it. Does fasting on water or juice do the same cleansing as the MC??
Thanks for your thoughts....

Ski,

I did the cleanse last year for 7 or 8 days. Felt fabulous the whole time--no hunger, loads of energy. Used grade B maple syrup, lemon or lime juice, and cayenne. The Burroughs book is very reasonable and I highly rec. you pick up a copy at your HFS. Is not a long read, but nice to read through so you know what it is all about, what to expect, and what to look for in your body so you know the best time to break the cleanse and how to best break it.

Only you can decide if it is something you want to try. Many have commited to a one or two day a week cleanse each week. Some do a short cleanse on a monthly basis; others do with the change of the season.

Didn't follow the poster here, but someone just finished a juice fast. That may be something you may want to consider--a little less stressful and lots of nutrition.

Best of luck on your raw path.
