I really want to do a MC/juice fast (whatever my body tells me) but I have so many responsibilities. I care for myself, three children 7 and under and my 83 year old grandmother. My husband is here, too but takes care of himself. My DH says he'll make dinners for a week and help a bit more but we have a very stressful lifestyle (or rather, I get stressed from our lifestyle). I don't want to get upset for failing, I wish i could go to a retreat for a month!! Alas, I cannot, so, am I crazy to try?

Of course you're not crazy. We all have responsibilities that can "keep" us from doing what we know is best for our bodies. I did the master cleanse and after 3 days, I had more energy than I knew what to do with ~ it was so amazing that I am currently doing a (hopeful) 40 day juice fast. I have two small (EXTREMELY high energy) children and my husband works 10 hour days. I am worth the effort it takes and the kids will be fine if mom struggles for a couple days. You can do it :D And you are worth it.

Thanks Justine. THAT is just what I needed to hear. Are you going through the holidays fasting, then?

This is just my opinion so please take it for that and feel free to discard it or not at your pleasure. I think fasts and cleanses are good things and can help accelerate a person on their journey. I also think that a person will move along that path OK without the fasts and cleanses but it will just take them awhile longer to get there. The main thing IMO is not the speed of the journey but rather being on the journey. If a person lives a healthy lifestyle then better health will result. I think if a person stays with the raw food lifestyle as described in Alissa's book and has plenty of raw food fiber in their diet they can travel on the journey with a minimum of disruption to their daily life and not have to go to a retreat or anything because the high fiber diet will help to wisk the toxins out of the body as the raw foods are providing the body with the energy and nutrients it needs to become healthy. So I wouldn't stress about the raw food lifestyle, instead be happy and free knowing that you are supporting the body in the journey to better health and longer life.

I just completed a 34 day juice/water fast. I have 4 dc (9,9,7,4), 2 of them are autistic. It can be done!

I took the 1st 2 weeks to just get into fasting. I sat on the porch in the sun alot, made VERY simple suppers for the family and my dh volunteered to clean the juicer after I used it. That helped a lot. After about 2 weeks I had more energy to clean the house, run errands etc. Now that it's over and I am eating again I feel like a MILLION bucks (and I'm 23 lbs lighter too!)

Thanks for all of the inspiration. I have found myself choosing to fast 1 day a week and then fast most of the day until dinner, then have a salad or a little something raw. It is not total fasting but it is being very mild. Also, I can see that, when I want to maintain rather than release my weight, I can just add in a bit more raw until I reach balance. Having one day a week committed to fasting seems like a very doable lifelong thing.
