Peace

I Went To The Health Food Store For Breakfast And They Mad Me A Mixed Fruit Smoothie With A Little Almond Milk.

But In The Back Of My Head I Was Wondering What Would My Fello Rawbie Say About This (i'm Still Learning ).

I use it but I am not always the best at food combining.

I love almond milk in my smoothies. I don't know if it's questionable but I love it. Anything that helps me eat raw over cooked is good at this point.

Was it raw almond milk?

More than likely what they had (UNLESS they are a raw-friendly establishment) in terms of almond milk was the pasteurized kind you buy in the store and that, is not raw. The next time you go, ask them if they use commercial almond milk or if they make it themselves and then you'll know for sure.

Yes, when I can I use raw almond milk. If I am in a pinch and haven't made almond milk I will actually use, Heaven Forbid, pasturized almond milk.

My FAVORITE cereal is sprouted buckwheat, raw sesame milk (unstrained) and raisins. I think it is so darn good.

Well, it can be as simple as that...but for me, that is just too plain and I don't care much for straight almond milk (homemade, that is) so what I do is:

- 1 cup of almonds and cashews (1 cup combined...it may be more almonds than cashews or vice-versa, just depends) and it's a good idea to soak the almonds in water overnight first but I've done it without soaking too and didn't have any problems.

- about 1/8th tsp. of sea salt (optional, but I think it adds great balance of flavors)

some agave nectar (or you can use a few dates or raw honey) to make it slightly sweet...you can use as little or as much as you like

1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

3-5 cups of water - now with the water, the more you add, the thinner the milk...the less you add, the thicker/creamier the milk. I've found that 3-4 cups makes it really creamy and more like "whole milk" and 5 cups is more like 2%

This is all blended well in a blender on high speed. Then, you strain it (or some like to leave it as-is but straining it makes it more like "real" milk) and you can either order a nut milk bag from Alissa's store on her website OR you can run to Home Depot or Lowe's and ask for a nylon, mesh paint strainer bag. Strain the milk and the pulp can be dehydrated (if you own a dehydrator) and ground into flour or it can be frozen for later use in various recipes or you can add it to shakes or smoothies or you can use it as an exfoliant for the skin if you don't want to waste it...otherwise, just toss the pulp and wash the bag and reuse it.

The milk can be stored in a glass mason jar in the fridge for 2-4 days or so - usually best if kept in the coldest area of your fridge such as the back. If it starts to separate while in the fridge, simply shake it up!

But you can experiment with different nuts and seeds and combinations to find what YOU like. I tried just straight almonds and water and even almonds, water, agave nectar and vanilla and didn't like it...but for ME, adding the cashews makes it really good...everyone who's ever tasted my milk says it tastes just like regular dairy milk but better!

You can make sesame seed milk, hemp seed milk, Brazil nut milk, hazel nut milk, sunflower seed milk, etc. and they all have their own unique flavor.

By the way, do you have a copy of Alissa's book "Living on Live Food"? If not, please get one as soon as feasible as it is a GREAT source of information, encouragement, TONS of recipes and more!
