Hi y'all.

I'm back from Ukraine (3-day train ride there and back). More about that later. I'm absolutely cracking up at these videos. Check them out. Maybe if we get our cats on a raw diet, they'll learn how to talk and use and flush the toilet....Hm?

I'm gonna train mine to just clean the cat box. If they won't do that, maybe I can get them to dust! Ha!

Didn't you just want to reach in and rub that kittie's belly?

Hi Meancat!

Well, I'd like to rub that talking black kittie's belly, but not the big guy who just moved his bowels and then fell into the john. Ick!

It's so amazing how cats can have such different personalities. My kitty Nikita eats cucumbers, sips my herbal tea, and perches on the bathtub rim with his tail completely submerged in the hot water. He isn't even afraid of getting wet!

Do you have any pets? Do you feed them raw meat at all?

yes I have 5 cats. And boy, talk about different personalities!! I have 2 siamese girls--mom and daughter--that are very prissy and snotty. I have a fat tabby boy that we nursed as a baby and he's a teddy bear, but not the sharpest knife in the rack. A yellow and white boy who is a holy terror, but sweet at the same time and lastly, a boy tuxedo cat (my avatar) my baby.

Yep...call me the crazy cat lady--don't care. I'd have more if I could!! If I had the room, I 'd have a couple dogs too!

One of these days I'm gonna post them on my profile page.

What pets do you have?

Hi Meancat.

Yeah, I grew up with ten cats.....but also with 7 other brothers and sisters, all older. It was a crowd! I never got enough attention. Sniff! So I would rather have just one cat and spoil him rotten, which is what I do with Nikita. He's orange all over, except with a white nose, beard, belly, and white paws---just adorable. It seems all the exclusive pampering he gets from me makes him smarter. He reads my mind and does everything at the same time I do. Honestly, even when I go to the toilet, he goes to his litter box right next to it to do his thing!

So have you tried feeding your kitties any raw meat?

No I haven't tried feeding my cats any raw meat. I'm a little nervous about changing their diets. I have one kitty that has a urinary problem and has to have medicated food. I'm sure that it was caused by all the crap they put in cat food anyway, but I just don't know if I should attempt it.

I asked my vet along time ago about making my own cat food and about feeding them raw meat and he said that alot of people try it and they end up not giving them the nutrients they need. I guess it scared me away.

How about you? Would you concider it if you don't?

Hey..those vids were hilarious..not sure if either of you are still reading this post..but I have been feeding my two cats Raw for the past 3 mo. ....they LOVE IT!!!!!...My one cat Bettie loved it from the first time...my other cat Gizmo is a VERY picky eater...so he actually refused to eat for about 5 days!..I was truly shocked at his willpower...but as soon as he was hungry enough and tried it..he loved it....now he is constantly pestering me to feed him....

He had crystals in his urine...and would have died if he had become fully blocked since I didn't have the money for surgury....But he got better...I used to feed them dry organic cat food...then he got sick and I had to give him the special wet urinary food...and I didn't want to keep doing that cuz It has so much bad stuff for them in it...so I changed them to Raw...and so far he has not had any problems...even tho they drink a lot less water since there is a lot of water in the meat.

Also..he always had course hair...ever since he was a kitten...but now he is amazingly soft...and my other cats weight has evened out..she was a tiny bit overweight b4.

here is the website that I order my food from if u want to try it...

www.animalfood.com

I get the frozen 1/2 lbs. patties...it lasts 40-some days for both of my cats...it costs about $70...not too bad....I want to try this other food sometime in the future becuz they sell rabbit meat too not just beef...which I feel would be a more natural diet...since I've never seen a cat take down a cow b4..he he:D

I've been vegan for almost a yr. so it's kind of gross handling raw meat..but all you have to do is take out a patty and defrost in the micro..without cooking it of course...and then try not to smell it while u give it to them:rolleyes:

I'd try it..if it doesn't work u can always change back....

Good Luck:cool:

Thank you for your post Love---especially knowing your cat had urine crystals--I"m very concerned about worsening them and putting him though more misery and pain.

One more question---what about dry cat food? Its supposed to keep their teeth clean. If you are feeding a raw meat diet, do they have dental problems, or because of the raw meat, are they not getting the plaque build up they would with a conventional cat food?

Well so far everything has been great!...but it hasn't been too long yet...I believe the concensus is that the Raw diet doesn't have all of the additives that most foods do so that excesive plaque doesn't form...also in the patties that I feed them it is not just only meat..it is made up of meat, organs, and bone...which I believe the bone also helps their teeth.

Does your cat have crystals right now?..mine was better for a bout 1 mo. b4 I changed his diet to Raw...he was on the special urine diet for that mo.

I would at least wait until your cat was ok...just becuz a change in diet is somewhat stressful in the beginning.

Also how old are your cats?...I don't think age is a factor..but if I had a very old and sick cat I would watch him very carefully when u change his diet...also..many vets don't like the Raw diet..I'm not sure why exactly..maybe they just don't know much about it so are being cautious...but if I trusted only in doctors I prolly wouldn't be on this forum;)

You should look into some of the options for Raw food..some belive in adding veggies to their food some don't..the one I get doesn't but they say if u want to be safe then just a a little bit of veggies when u feed them...I moght start doing that..since I've found evidence for and against that cats get some veggies from the stomachs of their prey...

Also..one of the other benifits is that now my cats poop almost never smells!!!!...It's a miracle...and their urine smells way less...:D

Hi there,

I just wanted to add to this because I’ve had my cat on raw meat that I make from a raw turkey and a mix that I buy. The mix has bones and other things that they need to have a balanced died.

The way I toilet trained my cat is with this device:
http://www.litterkwitter.com/en/index.php

It works pretty well and I'm sure some cats get the hang out it faster than others, but you just have to be patient with them.

For the raw food, I get the dry mix from this company and add it to raw turkey or chicken.
http://www.felineinstincts.com/

You can either buy liver powder from them of add raw liver yourself, the overall cat food is very complete. Store bought food does not compare.
They also have a formula for cats with kidney problems. Such things are pretty much always diet related and common in cats.

Here's an article on treating urinary tract problem in cats naturally:
http://www.alternativemedicine.com/common/news/store_news.asp?StoreNewsID=14157&storeID=02AD61F001A74B5887D3BD11F6C28169

I also started adding probiotics that this company makes for cats to my kitties food:
http://www.livingfoodsusa.com/
(they make great formulas for people as well that I take.)

I know all about vets discouraging people from using raw pet food or natural products. They are not much different than conventional doctors who will not advise you to fast or take herbs but encourage you do take their prescriptions. It's a matter of educating yourself about these things.

Some cats are more resistant to switching from cooked food to raw food. You can make this process easier by starting to add a tiny amount of raw food to cooked wet food that the cat is used to, and over time increase the amount of raw food until you transition fully.

I also buy some anti-parasitical herbs at a health food store and add a small amount to every batch of my cat’s food and I’ve never had him get parasites. (That’s what a lot of the vets are concerned with.)

Every time I make the cat food I buy 8 to 10 lb of raw meat, add the mix, water, make small ½ cut portions and freeze them. I use little ½ cup tupperware containers, they are perfect for this.

The company that I buy the cat food mix from also has a natural spray that you can use to spray in the cats mouth that cleans their teeth.
http://www.felineinstincts.com/orderNow/lebaIIInaturalcatanddogteethcleaner.html

I think it's also a good idea to clean your cat's teeth with some gauze wrapped around your finger and water. I've also used a little bit of tooth soap (that i use myself) and then clean the tooth soap off with a wet cloth.
I myself will not use toothpastes so I would not use them on my cat either. Here's the company I get the tooth soap for (it's awesome!!!):
http://www.perfect-prescription.com/

I've been a raw foodist for over 7 years now and I've had 2 cats on a raw meat diet. There are other companies that sell already prepared raw meat cat food, but I really like the formula that I've been using to make my own, I think the mix is more complete.

Hope that helps :-)
Katy

I have been interested in putting my cat on a raw food diet for a while now. This looks like and awesome company and I was working out how much it would cost me to buy food through them. The one thing I am worried about is the shipping! If your costs you $70 does that mean there is no/little shipping?
