I am trying to sprout chick peas, I am on the fourth day.
I have rinsed them four times a day, but when I take the towel off to rinse them there is a strong odor, is this normal or are they too old?
thank you in advanced
Dennis

Hi there, whenever Ive sprouted chickpeas they have a little 'tail' in 24 hrs. Ive never done them for 4 days...maybe its too long for them?
All the seeds I sprout smell odd after the first soaking, well its the soak water that smalls bad. Have you tasted one? That should be a good guide as to whether they are ok

Mine have never had a bad odor. But I wonder what you mean by "take the towel off to rinse them?" I never use a towel for sprouts.

Mine usually sprout within a couple of days. In fact, that's what I'm eating right now for lunch with sliced butternut squash, zucchini squash, and jicama!:p YUM!
They've gone bad. Throw 'em and start again. I find that after rinsing them religiously for 1 or 2 days, they're ready, and then they won't keep but 4-5 days in the refrigerator, if that.

Oh, okay. I use the Easy Sprouter. It comes with a lid.

Yeah, they should sprout within 48 hours at the MOST. I use a nut milk bag for my chickpeas because they tend to get a bit stinky in the bowl - just my opinion. Could be that they weren't really raw to begin with. Good luck.... :)

mine sprout really quickly as well. yours must be bad, also bear in mind that the quality and freshness of the chickpeas will have a direct effect on whether they will sprout easily and successfuly. stale/old/poor quality chickpeas will produce poor/no results. always use the best quality organic raw grains + pulses for sprouting.
