Hi all,

One of the few nasty things which have happened to me during my raw journey is my dry skin.

When I say dry I mean papery like 95 year old skin.

I have read the treads which address this and have tried everything to no avail:mad:

Nothing had worked .:(

Well I am taking a series of courses on Homeopathy and showed the homeopath my body to see if she she had any ideas.

She tells me the skin is the last thing to detox and that this is a normal reaction. She advised to aid this detox to put NOTHING ON MY SHIN no creams or potions.

Then when my body is finishing detox my skin will go back to normaL

Yikes what if my detox goes on for years like someo f you have mentioned.

So what does everyone think of this

Opinions, or solutions or links would be very much apprecated!!!

Have you tried dry brush exfoliation on a daily basis? I brush mine for 5 minutes before taking my morning shower. It has made a tremendous difference.

What is a Dry Brush Exfoliation?
A dry brush exfoliation involves the use of a soft, dry brush to gently brush the skin. It is recommended by holistic practitioners to remove dead skin cells, improve the circulation of blood and lymph, and enhance detoxification through skin. The gentle pressure is also thought to have a calming effect.

How is Dry Brush Exfoliation Done?
The only tool needed is a soft, dry, skin brush, preferably with natural bristles.

Step 1

Stand in the shower with the water off.

Step 2

Starting at your feet, start brushing in small circles towards your heart. Apply very light pressure, avoiding broken skin, skin rashes, or areas where the skin is thin, such as the face or inner thighs.

Step 3

After you've finished both legs, move on to your arms. Brush from your fingertips, again towards your heart.

Step 4

Reach around and brush from your back towards your stomach.

Step 5

When you are finished, begin showering.

Hmmm thanks:)

I will buy a brush and try this.

Avoid thin areas? lol all of my arms and legs feel paper thin:eek:

I guess i'll be more gentle there.

Detox sounds possible.

How about omega's? I'd get started on UDO oils, you can find it in the refrigerator section of most health food stores. An old woman at Church (she's nearly 90 years old) has skin like that of a 30-something year old, very smooth and thick and radiant, very few wrinkles at all, and she swears by the UDO oils as well as fresh garlic. She said that she used to have eczema until she started taking the UDO oils and eats it daily since then, as well as a piece of raw, fresh garlic.

Thank you so much I will try it:)

I have had really dry skin also. Thanks for the information. Does the UDO oils have a taste? I am going to purchase a humidafier and some house plants to clean up the air in my home as well.

I use coconut oil on my hands & feet everyday. It's pretty natural stuff. In fact, you can eat it!

Also, have you tried adding hemp or flax seeds to your diet? Are you getting enough fat?

I am bumping this up in the hope that one of the board seasoned veterans will see it and be able to help me as my skin is getting worse, sob:eek:

I am going shopping this week and this will be my plan of attack:

I have taken homeopathic sulfur to help with my Hives ( working )

I will continue with mega water drinking.

Add smoothies with lots of cucumber.

Buy Omega 3 to take ( which Kind? anyone know?)

Will dry brush daily

Have sent for" gloves in a bottle" This protects the skin while it heals itself.

No more hot baths.

I also read that to much acid in the body can cause dry papery skin? Can any one tell me which foods are acidic please?

Any other suggestions would be welcomes this is literally tearing or wearing me apart or well my skin at least

Thanks in advance:)

Hi if you google alkaline/acid foods you will get loads of different lists...Im a computer moron so not able to post links etc sorry.
I just did this search myself cos Ive got Psoriosis which has been flaring up since I started the raw journey (the skin is a detox organ as far as the body is concerned);)
Nuts are acidic as are most fruits & especially dried fruits. Greens & most veggies are alkaline in the body. A good way to start helping the body to be alkaline is to drink water with freshly squeezed lemon juice in it...althought we think of lemons as acid, in our bodies they are alkaline producing...yeah my brain started to flip when I was reading the science stuff, doesnt seem to make sense to me LOL
I use organic jojoba oil as amoisturiser & apply onto moist skin when I get out of the bath or shower. It really soothes & gives suppleness for quite some time. HTH

I think a nice hot bath with a bath bomb really makes skin soft... pin up your hair or it might make it greasy.

I too have psoriasis and it is flaring right now. Of all places on my face! Normally when I get it, it is small patches on my elbows and maybe my knees. Hardly visible. But you can sure see it on my face. And as soon as one patch clears, another appears.

Skin elsewhere is very dry and seems thin, too. My arms and legs are covered with powdery skin. The skin on my legs is so thin that any kind of exfoliation causes it to bleed. Very annoying.

Right now I'm dealing with a horrible allergic reaction to something. Not sure what I'm allergic to. It started two weeks ago and even though my doctor prescribed Predisone and Atarax it has not helped. I even got a Cortisone shot.

I am so unhappy right now, I'm tired, because the itching wakes me up at night. My skin has become tight, it itches and also stings. Some areas look like a sunburn. I feel like I'm being poked by thousands of needles, on my chest, neck and arms. I have been on a SAD diet forever and do want to find a healthier way to live and eat.

I really need some relief from this itching and burning. I hoped that during my four days off work it would clear up, but it hasn't and I go back to work tomorrow night. Someone help!!!

I just read Victoria Boutenko's book Green for Life, and she referenced a book The pH Miracle by Robert Young. It evidently has lists of the acid/alkaline foods.

O.. whew, where to begin I've had psoriasis my whole life. I've tried literally hundreds of different lotions and creme's and whatnot, everything from avacado peels to cortinsone. And none of it has ever cured me. The simple truth is that psoriasis and really any other chronic skin condition is an internal issue and not something that can be fixed with an external application. Whenever I get a lotion that seems to help, it works for maybe a week, and then it seems as if the psoriasis evolves past it. It's like a tolerance that builds up,
for example, I can use coconut oil for a few days but after that it won't do me any good, then if I don't use it for a few weeks, I find that I can usually use it again for a few days.

Anyways, the one thing I can say that has always brought me relief would be ocean water, sadly I don't think this is something that can be bottled up, because I'm pretty sure the lifeforce that is in it has a lot to do with it. The ocean has a PH that is the same as our blood.

Also, getting a bit of sunlight, and not just on your face and arms, is helpful. A disproportionate amount of psoriasis people are deficient in Vitamin D.

Also, you can try avoiding nightshades (tomato, potato, eggplant, bell pepper, etc.)

The driest part of my body is my hands, strangely enough, contact with water dries them out terribly,
cold showers for me. are less drying, but i still need to lather up immediatly afterwards or I will be quite dry and uncomfortable.

right now I use a borage oil lotion, Oh and and cocoa butter is excellent as well. Real cheap too. Now that I think of it in your case with just the thin dry skin, cocoa butter is really great because it does a good job of protecting your skin from chafing from clothing and everything else.

Wow I realize I've written an essay here, but there is still so much more, any questions I'd be glad to answer. I'm going to look into skin brushing and the almond oil before my cold shower, that sounds pretty good...
I'll let you all know how that works out.

Yeshia, are you still having that problem? I wonder if it would help to do a series of colonics. Our colon should the first organ of detox, if it's overflowing to your skin, maybe help the colon along? If you're hesitant to do a colonic, maybe look into a colon cleanse, like Dr. Shultz formula 1.
