I have a bag of wild jungle peanuts and would love to make a thai sauce or peanut satay sauce out of them. Has anyone tried this with the jungle peanuts? If so would you please share your recipe? OR if there are any other recipes you have made using them, I would really appreciate having those.

Thanks!

What are jungle peanuts?

Okay, I just looked them up. $13.50 for a pound? I'll just eat macadamias or pecans, thanks. They're expensive, but not THAT expensive!

if you have a recipe, I would like it too, I bought a package and don't know what to do with them! Sometimes I will buy something I haven't seen or used before just because I have to have things shipped and I figure I will find a recipe to try another new food!

Hi peeps,

The banana search will help you find the thousands of recipes on this forum.

IF I am searching for something that's where I go first, I always find what I am looking for.

Carla.

It didn't work in this case. That is why I finally posted looking for recipes that specifically use the wild jungle peanuts. I agree that the search function on this site is AWESOME! I use it all the time...:)

How different are jungle peanuts to regular peanuts or other nuts? Are they the same texture as a regular peanut? I wonder if you could substitute the jungle peanuts for other nuts in other recipes.......if so, you should try the peanut butter cup recipe (I would imagine you could make a "peanut butter" to sub. the almond butter)......Peanut butter cups (http://rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=23186&highlight=butter+cups)

Love,

YOU are being waaaaay too specific. What you need to do is look for satay sauce and recipes for Pad Thai etc, peanut sauce etc. Why I say this is I remember a thread with a recipe for satay sauce.

Now as someone who has handled raw peanuts as a child, to prepare them to be roasted. This is the tao of raw peanuts, which is what jungle peanuts are.

If in shell, crack them open. Easy accomplished especially with a nutcracker.
Then there is usually a reddish brown membrane on the nut, what you have to do is remove it, usually with your fingers. You work out a way you're comfortable with.

Definitely remove the red brown membrane, it's not yummy when mixed into recipes.

I would suggest then using them that way, peanuts are sweeter when raw than when roasted.

Then search for satay sauce using the banana, and voila!!

Here's a recipe from G Living. I've not tried it but I know the chef, Sarma Melngailis, is from Pure Food and Wine here in NYC and everyone raves about her.
