Have you ever observed people around you, particularly when you are at public events, when many people can be compared physically? (no sexual ideas here). I live in central Georgia and was at a fair where most people were wearing summer type clothes. I could not help but be dismayed at the high percentage, my guess is 80 - 90%, that are overweight, and I mean large amounts of excess weight.
I wanted to just scream at the top of my lungs and say, people, don't you realize that its the food you are eating. Its the FOOD.
I heard Bill Meyer say before, 'its the food' why we have disease and obesity rampant in this country.
Its so sad that most people just don't see it.
I am so happy I found the way to a healthy, more enjoyable life with the raw way of eating. I have been vegetarian but have gone raw going on one month and have not felt this good for over 30 yrs.

People WON"T listen, no matter how loud you yell. I think there is a time or an event that gets their attention. They are ADDICTS.
But do keep your passion for other people and they will come to you and you can talk to them one on one.
Welcome to the Forum. I wish you everything you need to Stay RAW.....Welcome to MY World.

But I wonder how many watched the contest on the news a few nights ago when some guy won the burger eating contest.
I think that he ate 110 burgers in 8 minutes and felt really proud of himself. How is that for an ambition.

Recently, I was sitting at my desk eating a raw salad for lunch, talking to my co-worker who was eating candy bars for her lunch. She said, "You are always eating fruits and vegetables." I told her I had been able to lose 25 pounds just by eating mostly fruits and vegetables since August. (I have been off and on with a mostly raw/vegan lifestyle before that, but really committed to it in early August.)
One of the things this poor woman talks about is how fat she had gotten (and she is very, very overweight), and how she has so little energy. She is not a very helpful co-worker and is always surfing the internet and reading about meat and SAD based dietary approaches. A couple of weeks ago she was printing out stuff on the Atkins diet. Yuck!!!
I think it is ignorance. I really feel sorry for her. She can't see what she is doing to herself. I feel really grateful to have found this path.
All I can do is be an example and offer a taste. I told her I always had some extra fruit in my desk and she should help herself.

uh i was talking to my friend the other day about this- i can't help ALL people around, but wanted to educate those i care about. and sometiems- they're just "not ready" for such information. I concluded that everyone has their path somehow. I mean, usually it takes at least SOME health concern to begin considering what you put in your body
But it IS amazing how "normal" crappy sickening food has become. There has to be a major shift in people's views..

It is not just the food, it is all the pounds of chemical additives people put into their bodies which the food industries put in the foods they eat. They have to keep adding more exotic concoctions to their foods too because, after all, they have to get something for paying their chemists, don't they?

MrGreenJeans,
You got that right! You know how some people in the raw/vegan community say you shouldn't use condiments or spices? Well, most people are eating so many chemicals and not thinking about the effects. It just cracks me up when people start debating the pros and cons of sea salt or jalapeno peppers.
For me, the taste of pure food is usually enough. But if others want raw spices, that's fine with me. It's the people eating chemical concoctions that disturb me. I figure I can't avoid what is in the air and water and I can't always afford organic food. But compared to what the average person eats, I'm doing really well.
I really feel sorry for people who have not found this path but I truly believe the only way we can convince others is by example, by attraction. Lecturing them isn't going to help. If others see how much we have been helped, maybe they will be inspired to try it.
I just feel lucky to be here and to be eating well.

And it is not just the "normal" crappy food.....it is also the everyday personal care and cleaning products that people use. lets not forget that all of this enters the body through the pores and is just as harmful as the food that people are ingesting. One thing I did years ago was to start using strictly organic products . I also scrutinize those label very carefully.
It has got to be a package deal for me now. I cannot imagine ever going back to dead food or poison products!

I have walked around walmart and wondered how "we" got this way and why dont "we" do anything about it. I think it is hard to really open your eyes. It has been for me.

Ha! I can relate. And you can take that a step further to the glazed over commercial buying look. I rarely go into a mall now as it tends to overwhelm my senses and takes me out of my body with all of that energy. Thank God for on-line shopping.

I think is is hard for many to open their eyes and grasp what has become of our populations wellbeing. I also feel that alot of not being able to open the eyes is due to the neurotoxins such as MSG, SPLENDA, ASPARTAME, etc. And the dumbing down toxic waste product called fluoride.
I try to educate people whenever possible. Big gov't does not want the masses to be educated though. Too much $$$$$$$$$ is at stake with Big Pharma and the mainstream medical establishment. They like to keep the population dumbed down and as sick as possible. This is so sad but oh so true!

Have you ever observed people around you, particularly when you are at public events, when many people can be compared physically?
Yes I do and have. Airports are the worst. Particularly when you've traveled abroad. Each and every time I re-enter country, it's literally a shock to my system when I look around and 8 out of 10 people appear to be struggling with their health, weight or both. I don't mean to offend anyone who is making changes in their life with that comment, but I do notice it more profoundly when I've been away and say have just returned from a third world country, where they are in some cases 100 times more healthy than we are. I'm not discounting the level of extreme poverty that is rampant in some parts of the world, but it always strikes me as ironic that we think they're starving, when most are eating very sound raw food diets and are not dying of cancer, heart disease and the host of other diseases we're grappling with. For the most part if they do become ill or are have health issues, it's because they don't have access to a wide variety of resources and services, for example sound sanitation systems, health facilities to treat minor injuries that become infected, etc. It's usually not related to their diets but for these reasons...at least this is what I've experienced in my travels. And the other thing is life is very hard for a lot of folks (and in this country as well), but they're the most happy and warm hearted people you could ever meet. I've been humbled more than a few times in my life. I think it's because they truly hold the keys to living a "good" life. We could learn a lot from observing how other people live elsewhere. And it would be a huge wake up call for many people who live in excess, literally. We take so much for granted! I could go on with the shock of entering a supermarket when I come back home. I can only imagine what that would feel like to someone who's never seen one before and I grew up here!
Yet, it feels to me as if this awareness is shifting, slowly, but it's beginning to change. People are getting sick of being sick and feeling like crap. They're waking up. We are helping with this effort, just by setting an example with the choices we're making. We're raising the collective consciousness or energy vibration of the nation's awareness of what it really takes to be healthy. And the answer is very simple as we all know. Just watch, folks will eventually ask you how you're living your life rather than chastising or judging you for your choices. They will really want to know what you're doing and why you look and feel so fantastic. It starts here.

What a great thread. Have slowly been expanding my diet to include as many organic products as I can squeeze into my budget. Have really been transitioning to at least org. greens and now Costco is carrying a lot more organic frozen fruits (and fresh items, too).
The note as to so many chemicals/additives is so on the mark. Cellulite is really a result of the body trying to protect us from the onslaught by trying to store the toxins in fat cells. Have been doing skin brushing as part of my a.m. routine and am seeing a big difference. Taking care of myself. Trying each day to remember that this is not the trial run, but the real McCoy. Funny how perspective gives you quite an uplift sometimes.
As to soda (pop) I know that CO2 is what we exhale--a waste product the body is eliminating, so why put it back in with the bubbles in soda? Getting past that, what about the phosphates that kindly deplete the calcium from one's bones. No thank you. Anything that can dissolve lug nuts in under a week of soaking is not getting put in my body.

The replys on this thread are great.
A good book some might find of interest is 'The Pleasure Trap'. It covers what we know are the food pleasures the masses eat but also other pleasure traps in life many do not think about.
Thanks so much for the replys. I agree 100% with all the comments.:D

Was shopping in a little mall the other day where there is both a Red Robin restaurant and a Old Country Buffet restaurant.
This is not a joke I actually observed this....people going into the restaurants thin and healthy looking and out the other end grossly over weigh.
I thought I was seeing things and so I asked dh to watch the doors while I run an errand....when I came back he said that was fascinating. He observed the same thing.
SAD is scary!!!

When I was eating SAD the first and last time I went to Hometown Buffet I was mortified. I took a look around and it was like being in a scary movie. Every member of every family was at least 50lbs. overweight. Everyone was huge and I would not step foot back into that place. I wasn't even raw yet. The only person I care to influence is my daughter and my mother. Those are the two most important people to me and if I influence my daughter she will pass it down from generation to generation. I just had a 25 year old tell me she has a lump in her breast. I asked her what she is eating and tried to tell her how to help herself (my friend did cure her breast cancer via the raw diet) as she started chowing down on a red piece of meat.
