Todays been another day of learning and practicing raw. It seems like every day is different and brings new things to marvel at. Lots of good posting "meat" to chew on today. RFT is such a big help in maintaining focus and direction. I feel like RFT and Alissa's book are a compass to help guide all us rawbies on the journey to better health and longer life.

Morning

Its a grey and rainy day in the UK today.

I didn't wake up till 10am this morning again., thats 11 hours solid sleep. I'm just sleeping soooo much. I suppose its some kind of detox.. I have a cold too so maybe my body just wants to rest. Apart from a bit of a fuzzy head i feel fine.

I've been eating well but realised that i've not had a green smoothie since saturday, maybe thats why im so tired, i'll have a couple today to see if it helps.
Have a great day everyone, Denise

I didn't eat much on Day 12. I wasn't feeling well, so I decided to eat less than I normally would.

Heading out early today for work. Nice to have had the extra day off yesterday. Starting out with a gs. Did add the cuke and upped the green powder a little to help mask the taste (not a fav yet). Packed all the fixings for an awsome luncheon salad with some avos and a large green zebra tomato. Don't know what dinner will be yet.

Hope you all have a wonderfilled raw day.

Day 13. Wow. Is eating raw starting to come more easily for you guys, too? The last few days, I've just been eating according to my hunger, not planning or tracking my food. Just eating raw food. So far, so good. :)

Good morning all. I feel awfully congested this morning, with the headache. Trying to get my kids up to start school, and that's not going great either.

ANYWAY!! I feel great with my food choices. I am going to try to make a smothie with my FP today. I haven't tried that yet....but I am craving a savory green smoothie with cucumber, avo, spices, coconut oil......

I also want to make a butternut squash pie....I have a butternut squash waiting.....also some zuchini chips.....

Ya'll have a great day. I'll post later.

I too have been needing more sleep, I've been dragging myself to bed before 10:00 and not getting up until 7:00. But I seem to have more energy during the day. Also, I am thrilled hubby has been joining me in my morning juice and not complaining a bit about big salads for dinner, I've been making a big salad for dinner and a little something cooked for everyone else (I cook dinner for 6). So, today I've had a big glass of carrot juice and will have sliced tomato, avocado and marinated collard greens for lunch. I will say my family has poked a little fun at how much collard greens I am consuming :D I can start to feel my clothes fitting differently.

Have a GREAT day!

can i jump in here? :D

let's see-todays breakfast was 1 of Gus's Rawlmond Joys and 20 oz of green smoothie. (arugala, spinach, banana, orange, pienapple, strawberries, and maca-3 of the 4 dc LOVED it!)

Lunch will be 2 nori rolls made with asian cabbage, avacado, arugala and clover sprouts with white miso and wasabi

dinner will be an extra large salad with greens, tomatoes, carrots, sprouts, and maybe some marinated eggplant with miso dressing. I want to marinate the eggplant as a raw version of WF's marinated tofu-the one made with sesame sauce??? I just can't remember all the ingredients today.

my snacks (if needed) will be 2 rawlmond joys and/or a pomegranate.

I'm going to work on making sweet potato chips and maybe some pate or live garden burger for tomorrow.

Day 13!!! I CANT believe how fast this month is going.
Not hungry yet again this morning. I cant kick the habit of eating at night and I always eat a ton of nuts which sucks cause I can tell I am gaining a bit of a gut from it. I NEED to get past this hurdle seriously. But on a happier note I am proud to say that this is the longest I have gone 100% raw with no slip ups!

Today's Menu
GS (spinach, beet tops, collard greens, celery, romaine, banana, pineapple, strawberries)
Zucchini and asparagus sticks
Burger (sunflower seeds, kale, mushrooms, nama shoyu, garlic, cumin)
Bun (way spicy corn chowder gone wrong therefore made into crackers)I am trying to eat more veggies oppose to fruit cause when I eat fruit I want nuts because they just taste so good together haha.

Toodles!!!

I stepped on the scale, just to see what was going on - I've lost 10 lb! I can't believe it! I've been eating all sorts of stuff I had been previously avoiding (nuts, avos, extra smoothies) and I've lost 10 lb in 13 days! I LOVE BEING RAW! I know it won't continue like this but it's a nice start.

Hey rawbies - so good to be here today! Its so nice to check in regularly with such a positive community - it sounds as if everyone is doing great! Hooray for raw! I've decided to up my personal challenge.

I am trying to start a new routine of writing in my journal first thing followed by oil pulling as I make my bed up and do some other light housekeeping ... Today was day 1 - maybe since i can do a 30 day challenge, I can keep this self challenge too ... it was a great way to start the day, that is for sure ...

Hope your day keeps rawking! (hugs)

I think they look similar to spring greens, though these may be a bit tougher and the flavour is very strong. Would you say collards have a strong flavour - how would you rate it on a scale of 1 - 10 sau if spinach is lowest at 1.

I had only had collard greens cooked until last week and I thought they were strong tasting. HOWEVER, now that I have tried them raw I would say not so strong, my opinion a 3-4. The leaves are large, like if you stretch out your hand from your pinky to your thumb thats aprox how wide and I would say they are about 8 inches long (not including the stem). You could probably substitute Swiss chard easily (about the same size). And yes, I would say quite a bit tougher than spinach or spring greens, more like a thinner version of cabbage consistency wise.

Hey everybody!:D

Today has been a GREAT day food wise.

My oldest ds was wanting to make something hearty for breakfast. So he made pancakes out of Ani's book and a syrup and added blueberries and they were SO good!:D

Then he used the bread I made yesterday and Alissa's mozzarella and sauce and topped it all off with basil and sea salt for a yummy slice of pizza!

Now, I'm eating my yummy salad, (minus my usual avo, I ran out!:( )

But the food has been scrumptious! I'm so glad he was in an un-cooking mood today, cause I'm exhausted!:)

I actually bought some collards for the first time this weekend. I was going to make some Spring Green Rolls (from RAWSOME book) and it says to use collard green leaves. I couldn't figure out why it said to cut them in half. Well holy smoly!! when I saw them I immediately understood. These things are huggggggggeee!! roflmso!! they wouldn't fit into my vegie container, had to find a big plastic bag to hold them flat so they would break. Of course now I'm realizing I should have just cut them in half cuz I'd need to do that when I use them anyway......hehehe silly me.

Hi all,
Great raw day. Today is a chilly day in NJ. My landlord is a bit stingy with the heat. I'm so excited to drive my new car today. It's been a long time since I bought myself something new.

Today's food

Green smoothie:kale, collard, raspberry, banana, coconut water & meat, flax seed & water
Fruit Salad: cantaloupe, red seedless grapes, strawberries, banana, dried figs
Salad: red leaf lettuce, spinach, romaine lettuce, tomatoes, sunflower seed, pumpkin seeds, apple, olive oil.

I did my weekly weigh in today and the scale was same as last week. Funny my pants and tops fit much better so my body is definately shifting (in a nice way this time). So I'm going by the 'pantsometer' for now.

Had a great raw day, even through some high stress stuff. Need something pampering for dinner tonight--stuffed mushrooms may just fit the bill.

Hope everyone's day was rawsome.

I had:
banana sliced with buckwheat cereal
gs
flax seed crackers

Not a lot of food today. I had a HUGE case of nerves going on because the Dr.'s office was supposed to call back with my blood work, and they never called, even though I left 2 messages. I sure hope I hear from them tomorrow.

Ya'll have a great evening...see ya in the morning.

Wow - 14 days, already??

Ordered some 'raweo/raweo chai spice' cookies from the internet. Will let you know how they are when I get them. I needed something to 'indulge' in and am just too tired to take the time to make something right now. I have been keeping the food very simple too - smoothie (B), soup and/or salad (L), soup and/or salad(D). I posted too that I made a chocolate 'cheesecake' and eat a piece for dessert at night (not great at all, but it is something sweet at least. My sweet tooth seems to rear its ugly head high during the holidays and I am determined to eat it raw).

Have a good day everyone!:)

Wendi - here is the recipe for the candy you asked about. I found it on the Raw recipes forum posted by Zaphirah (sorry if I misspelled that):

Gus's Rawlmond Joys

1/2 c of raisins
1/2 c of shredded coconut
1 T cacao
1/3 coconut oil
agave to taste

First blend the raisins in the FP. add oil and shredded coconut. mix. Add cacao and agave. Shape into small bars and add an almond on top. You can eat them right away, but they are better if you can wait and refridgerate them for 30 min or more. enjoy! (makes about 12 bars)

Good morning everyone! Day 14 already!!!http://i192.photobucket.com/albums/z191/Sakashamei/01360916thumbs_up_smiley.gif
I am so thankful to be 100%!!! I know with my stress level lately, I would have, in the past, binged on all kinds of junk food. The past few days have been easy...stressful, but I did not focus on food. I am VERY THANKFUL for that!!

solongng00dnite: good for you about the nuts. I am a late night snacker too. Sometimes I think it's just because I am so tired, or maybe even bored. I have found that when I am reading a book, and winding down at night, I don't snack (I'm totally into my book) but when I don't have a book to read..I just turned my last book into the library, I've wanted to snack more. I say all this to say, maybe you need to figure out WHY you want to eat at night, and find an activity to substitute. Good luck today, sticking with the "no late night snacking"!!

Rasberry4: Thank you for the recipe! I want to try that...it looks super easy. I have found that I like raisins more and more, and they are so much easier to find than dates for me. Are raisins raw, or considered raw....sundried??? Just wondering, I will eat them no matter what. Thanks again! Where did you order your cookies from? I think I would like to order some treats....I'm not sure which is cheaper, buying raw cacao, or just buying a few treats??? Your cookies sound tastey though!!!

I don't really have a plan today. I made a gs last night for dinner, and only ate a couple of bites because it was just too chunky coming out of my blender...now I saved it, but don't know what to do with it. Maybe I should just freeze it until I get a blender to really blend it up. I hate to waste it!!
Is there a STORE BRAND blender that works better than the rest?? I might spend UP TO $100...but not over...if I'm going over (by much) I'll just save for a vitamix....ya know what I mean???

so far I've had tea.....then maybe some buckwheat cereal with banana....then I don't know what'

I'm in the mood for Christmas shopping today. I might take the kids to the mall for some window shopping.

Peace ya'll!!

The headache have started but I'm doing well. I'm keeping my food simple. The blender is high tech enough right now. I want to reward myself with a trip to NYC to visit a raw restaurant after 30 days.

So far today:
lemon water
2 clementines
a whole young coconut
1 sliced tomato with a couple raw crackers with mock salmon spread and sea salt
kombucha

Going to the farmer's market this afternoon. It is persimmon season and I can't get enough!!!!!!!! I could live on them.

Our local raw restaurant has a stand now and sells ready-to-eat raw meals and raw crackers there. I'll probably get some of that for dinner.

I made a weird chocolate-sprouted almond-date-coconut oil mash last night. Trying to figure out what to do with it. Hubby put some on a banana last night... I wanted to make fudgy balls but it was too squishy.

Hey Everybody - sounds like yall had a great raw day! Mine was a nice one too - I oil pulled and wrote for my own personal challenge too - I think raw is helping me to get clear and follow through with my goals and intentions - yay!

I can't quite recall what exactly I ate today - I know I ate 2/3 of my onion bread batch (had 1/3 last night) that stuff is yumm-o! I also had 2 bananas with tahini, agave, sea salt and choc. sauce. Then I had a banana with strawberries and choc. sauce followed by some macadamia nuts. Later I had some raspberries as well as a few olives. I need more greens! Tomorrow is another day for that.

Oh yeah, I also had a bite or two of gus's rawlmond joys - Shine I made mine with 1/3 cup coconut oil and they turned out great - taste almost exactly like the original - well what I can recall of it, it has been a while.

solongandg00dnight - good for you for breaking that night snacking habit - I definitely get munchy at night too - its the only time I crave cooked and I only crave it when I put my dog in his crate (he'll only go in for a pretzel) - so I allow myself to eat before bed - i allow myself to eat whatever whenever i want so long as its raw, but this is a poor habit i am forming :( I know I'll work it out eventually and your struggle with it too, has raised my awareness of my own habits - thanks!

goodnight and sleep tight!

I have not been posting much, but I am still eating all raw:) , I just have been having a hard time with detox? Feeling a bit low on energy and a need extra rest, which means no typing at night:( . I have lost about 8 pounds, which is great and I have not had any stress headaches lately:D I have been eating lots of greens, mandarin oranges, and those great tasting sprouted/seasoned nuts! YUMMY!!! I probably need to eat a bit lighter the next few days to help with the detoxing though. Maybe try eating mono? Anyhow I know I will eventually feel much better. Lot's of Love to Everyone!!!

Hi everyone, went shopping for some pants but they did not have my size. Did alot of walking( for me), had no food with me, so brought some bananas. I didn't start the journey till the 4th, had a cooked dinner one night, and a bit of :) sushi one day, but other than that it's been all raw. The cooked cravings are not as strong and I actually think, know I could make this a permanent lifestyle. Here in australia we are heading into summer, so it's not too hard at the moment to eat living foods only.

Starting my day with an awsome gs. Seems particularly nice this morning. Salad for lunch and dinner--well still a mystery at this point, but maybe something spicey or warming. Packing more fruit for my snacks today. A mango and some Arkansas Black apples. Never heard of them before, but Staters had them and 'wow' are they good.

Hope you all have a fantastic, raw day.

Good morning everyone!

Oldest son is home sick today. I too, like rawdanceruk, am VERY hungry today. I felt like I lost a lot of weight, but stepped on scale and did not lose even an ounce. Very discouraging but I plan to stick with it. Normally, I would give up right away - that plan is no longer a viable option - it never works out.

I have not had the opportunity to exercise since Saturday, due to alot of pressures, and I can feel it (stiffening up). That may also have something to do with the non weight loss.

Treated myself to a haircut and highlight last night. I hate to spend the money on myself but it is a nice reward system instead of food.
Current weight: 158.4 (starting weight: 206.0).

I hope everyone has a wonderful raw day.

Well, I would sure like to have some extra energy... I went to bed at 10:00 and didn't roll out of bed until after 8:00! Wow! I know my body is using it for other things and if I am healing and loosing weight while I sleep I can handle that :) I started the day off with a GS and don't know yet what I'll be having the rest of the day.

I am SOOOOO tired today!! I have NO energy!! I need to go to the grocery store, and all I want to do is go to bed.
I'm off to hunt down a blender today. Started thyroid meds...this is the last I'll mention it, I'm sure you're tired of "hearing" it.
My green smoothie (from the night before) is vacuum sealed in a canister, waiting for a new blender to fix it!! I know I will have that today!! Had a banana for breakie...

Hey everyone - it sounds as if many challengers are feeling sluggish/detoxish today ... hehe I like calling us challengers :D Well I hope these feelings pass soon - and remember its better out than in and our bodies are releasing a lot of the old building blocks that make up our bodies and replacing them with new ones - its kinda like construction, there's a lot of dust and crap that gets stirred up before you can see the beauty of the finished project - and these finished projects will be GORGEOUS!!! Keep rocking!

For me today I had the opposite I feel energized (maybe I have this energy so that I can share it with you :) )

Today my plan is to go green - green juices, green smoothies, green salads - and maybe a red grapefruit in the mix - just because it looks SO good ;) Have a great one!

Ok so as I said before I ate a bunch last night (all raw of course) and felt terrible this morning. The day before I did not eat at night and felt great all day. With that no more being an idiot at night cause I hate feeling crappy.

Also I took like 12 chlorella tablets when I had a headache and felt sick to my stomach and it amazingly subsided!!!!!

I still have this damn cold, I think the kids and I are passing it back n forth.
Just not very hungry- some days I eat nothing more than juice and a banana. Is this ok? I am trying to listen to my body.

Getting a colonic on Saturday- maybe that will help chase the cold out.

Today I brought to work:
5 clementines
3 kiwis
1 large green smoothie
mixed green/radiccio salad with sprouts, soaked sunflower seeds & scoop raw hummus made with sunflower seeds & tahini
half an avacado
half a red bell pepper
1 tomato
3 persimmons

I will probably eat most of that, and maybe give a little fruit away. Everybody has candy bowls at work, I have a fruit bowl.

It's really nice that my DH is eating so much raw too - probably 95% most days, many days 100%. So when I get home now, he has often made some sort of pate or raw dish that I can eat for dinner! I am so grateful, this would be so much harder if I was going home and there was a meal of cooked food and I had to make my own little something by myself. I have such long days when I go to the office, I'm usually gone 12 - 13 hours. He is very excited about the dehydrator coming (should be today!) and I can't wait to see what he comes up with in that thing.

By the way, my husband is a construction worker, already made fun of for being a vegetarian, and now he has his little salad and avocado for lunch... and still can lift heavier stuff that the other guys. It makes me laugh. People are just so brainwashed, even when the truth is happening right in front of them they can't accept it.

Have a great day everyone!

I can't believe I'm the first one posting! Well, I've had an interesting morning ... my hubby volunteered to cook a turkey for work today and has been up since the wee hours of the morning busily working in the kitchen so I woke to the smell of turkey, I actually thought I might be sick. This is a new reflex for me, is this normal?

Yesterday was a rough day for me emotionally, but I am much better this morning. I was craving apple/celery/collard juice so bad and didn't have the stuff in the house, hubby went out at 9:30 last night to get it for me, he's so good to me :) So, it will be juice for breakfast, GS for lunch and I'm going to try some sort of wraps for dinner. Did everyone notice that posts were low yesterday? Hang in there everyone, we're doing it!

I don't know how much I will be able to post over the next week. My 92 year old grandma is dying of cancer and hospice is in now taking care of her. I am spending as much time with her as possible, and I am getting ready to go to my MIL's for four day's.

Hey all!
I bought a brand new blender yesterday! It was an Oster from Walmart. It's an Oster "Fusion" which claims to be a FP and blender in one.....well, so far I can see why!!:D It is PRE-PROGRAMMED to chop food....the blade goes around slow one way, and then backward..forward and backward to chop/grind food! It also has a "smoothie" button, and a "max ice chop" and pulse chops etc....so far I love it! My smoothie was so GREAT this morning....oh yeah, and 600 watts of power!!! I'm lovin' it!!! I had a sweet green smoothie for breakfast, and I will have a savory one for dinner! I may never eat a salad again!!!

The best to you all....

solondngoodnite......I was reading your post from yesterday and in the past about eating late....I too have been challenged with this.

My understanding(others chime in) is I did not get enough during the day hours or am STILL craving a FULL feeling and nuts will do it. I sleep so well and wake up enegetically if I eat 3 hours before sleep. LAst night I woke and ate a red pepper and tomato in tahini at 12am. Felt like I did waking when I was pregnant...

Hello everyone-
I have no idea what I'm going to eat today. I forgot to take my allergy medicine yesterday and last night and I woke up with a terrible headache. Also I've been working so hard my shoulders and neck seized up so I'm sitting with a massage chair pad going while I type today. All I've had is lemon water. I'll keep checking back to see what others are eating, maybe it will inspire me.

Hi Everyone:) ,
I have been a way a long time. I miss sharing with all of you. Even though I have been gone, I am happy to say that I have been raw the entire time I've been away. I have been 100% raw for nine months now and plan on staying raw for a lifetime. This season will be the most interesting. It will be my first raw Thanksgiving and Christmas. I have gotten so much support from my family and friends, even though they have no intention of changing they're diet. It is so nice to be back. I am going to need to catch up on all your posts and meet some new friends.

Keeping it raw:) ,

DON'T GIVE UP!!! The race isn't given to the swift but to the one who endures til the end. Ok, so you had a "hiccup", there's no reason you can't start again with today being a brand new day. Even the "great ones" that we admire had hiccups in the being of their journey. And this is not like breathing or blinking or eyes which comes natural, it really is about making a choice daily (hope that makes sense). So chose today to start today...or re-start today and hang in there!!!

Have a GREAT day everyone!

Looks like yesterday was a rough day. Keep looking forward.

I've spent a good part of my day in the kitchen with my children. We made raw salsa, taco meat, date/nut balls, it all turned out GREAT. And the time spent with my children enjoying preparing raw food and looking forward to eating it for dinner.... I am blessed. I have informed hubby that Friday is "Try Something NEW Raw Night", I will not be preparing any cooked food, and he's good with it. We'll see if my parents keep eating with us :) My in-laws arrive tonight for a 5 day visit, my schedule will be a bit tighter but I will attempt to still post at least once a day (thankfully they are mostly raw).

Miahtay - wow you really have a strong support system. No one around me is raw. (Except for you all ;) ). Thank goodness for this forum!

A big hug goes out to everyone who is struggling or having family illnesses/issues. My oldest is still very sick - his asthma always makes things worse.

I am very tired today (lack of good sleep all week). Want to just curl up and "pretend" I am not here - does not work with kids however.

Still raw - it is really the best way. I am grateful that God has given me the strength to keep going. Hope to be able to get back to exercise again - I really missed it this week and makes me stiffer.

I hope you all have a good night!

MiahTay, I made ice cream out of cashew milk (the cashew milk was made in the blender) Even though cashews ARE soft, I didn't even strain them for the ice cream. It was nice and creamy. I love that this blender is PROGRAMMED for doing certain things like chopping/grinding food....it will stop all by itself....then it also has traditional low and high speed buttons and low and high PULSE buttons.

I had a great day of.....WHAT ELSE....SMOOTHIES!!!

Great day, made a huge, fantastic gs and only drank half. Somehow just not that hungry the last couple days. Maybe a little detox or something. Kept the gs frozen,so will do a part thaw tomorrow and enjoy then.

Wanting heavier dishes and warming--temperature or spicy heat this time of year. Aiming for simpler, but enjoying the recipes, too.

So very excited about this raw Thanksgiving. Fell off the wagon last year this time for stupid mashed potatos (sad version, sadly) and have only managed high raw since--enter the challenges--hip hip hooray!

Well, really getting the menu nailed down. Funny, but the people I celebrated with last year have invited me again and specifically asked me to bring some of the wonderful food that I did last time. Soooo--okay with me. Will be adding some stuffed mushroom appetizers and a different dessert (did Alissa's awsome black forest cake).

Anyway, I gotta say I have really been feeling better, lighter and more energetic this challenge. The weirdest thought--I usually get 7-8 hrs. sleep a night--but waking up waaayy before the alarm goes off. Just wide awake--cannot sleep another minute kind of awake. So I get productive since I'm already awake. Curious is anyone else is/has experienced this.

Loving raw and feeling so much better these days--and so grateful.

Hope everyone had a rawkin rawlicious day today. See you all tomorrow.

Good morning all! I'm going to start my day with a gs....and some warm tea! It has turned cold here....and I need the warmth. Wondering if I have any chai spice tea or something. Dh, the kids and I will be going to a college football game this afternoon. Not sure what I want to eat before and take for a snack. I think I have some dehydrated sunflower seeds, I wonder if I soak them for just alittle bit, and then re-dehydrate them with a sprinkling of sea salt and nutritional yeast?? I know I will probably take some fruit, just not sure if I can sneak it into the stadium, and then what do I do with the leftovers?? I guess I will stop by the small HFS this morning and pick up a raw bar are something. Now is the time I wish I had some of Hallelujah Acres dehydrated fruit (raw) or their suvivor bars that are also raw! I can't seem to get fruit to dehydrate very well.....I could use some tips.

Well, my raw salsa / taco meat / date and nut balls were all well received last night and I even have some left overs. Hubby and son ate it in collard wraps - I was shocked - the rest of us ate it on our salad like a tacoish salad. I am seeing great changes in my family because of me being involved here. My MIL and FIL arrived late last night so we haven't seen them yet. They went high raw a few months ago after FIL had a heart attack and surgeons said nothing they could do ... anyway, all this to say I will be preparing raw for TEN people for the next several days. My concern is that this will so exhaust me that when they leave I will slip up (sounds stupid but I know my pattern). So, I will start my day by juicing 10 lb. of carrots and misc. apple / celery /collard green juice. We will do GS for lunch - I am so thankful I have a Vita Mix.

Have a GREAT raw day all!

Wow, I am so thrilled to be a part of a community where everyone is working on doing the best that they can! Its great to be here and to hear what is going on for you in this journey.

It sounds like many people are having challenges in life (beyond just transitioning to a new way of eating) ... something that helps me in those times, when I may be tempted to stray to cooked foods is to think with gratitude about all the energy that goes into the raw foods that I eat (rather than coming from a factory and being processed on machinery with who-knows-what energy around ... the raw fruits and veggies we eat are nourished by the sun, its as close to eating sunshine as we can get (not you shine72 :D ), also I think about and send love and gratitude to the hands that pick my fruits and veggies - and show gratitude to the employees at the groceries and hfs where I purchase the food. When i think about those energies making it possible to support me, it gives me strength to maintain my eating habits and to be the strong person I need to be for my friends and family (and for myself too). Hope you don't mind my rambles - I just wanted to share what helps me stay focused and positive on the journey.

Ok, today's food list is not too long (yet) - I'm having a pommelo for breakfast (first time ever!), and will have some buttenut squash noodles for lunch ... or more of breakfast ... and have plans to make pumpkin pie and onion bread - yummo! Also getting my plans together for thanksgiving - finallizing my menu - will share when its complete.

Well wishings and blessings to you all - keep rockin'

Last night after feeling so sick all day, I rallied for dinner and made fresh pesto and zucchini noodles. I sprinkled chopped sun dried tomatoes on top (re-hydrated first).

I've had just a green smoothie and 2 persimmons today. Smoothie had spinach, soaked almonds, 2 oranges, 1/2 mango, banana and ice.

My dehydrator came today! I'm a little overwhelmed. I feel like making *something* but I don't know what!

What is super easy???

Well, as I mentioned earlier I was preparing raw food for 10 people today. What a great day we ended up having. I was able to introduce three people to green smoothies and they LOVED them.

So, my day was:

16 oz. carrot juice
Green Smoothie
Big salad with all sorts of veggies and sprouts and marinated collard greens
Date Nut Balls for dessert

Good Night!

Heather,

I just knew it would turn out for you better than better--congrats.

Today was actually pretty awsome for me. Wanted a gs for breakfast, but ended up having a raw cacoa drink with banana and maca this am and will be taking the gs for lunch. Have the marinated mushrooms that I've filled with Alissa's most addictive pesto stuffing and they are warming nicely in the big D as I type. Have so been craving these. They were filled in the crimini mushroom caps from Costco and have to say they are reallly looking and smelling darn good.

Hope everyone has had a rawlicious day!

Also want to note how great I've been feeling. So strange that I've been waking way before the alarm goes off and have had the energy to complete some pretty heavy duty projects. Raw rocks!

Hi

I am new to the Raw Food lifestyle and would like to know if anyone has bought the vitamix 5000 instead of the vitamix 4500. I know there is a difference in price but I am wondering if the two models are similar or if the 5000 model is alot better. Any info would help and I am always encouraged and inspired by all of you on Raw Food Talk..sharing your stories and valuable info is so helpful to us newbies! Thank you so much:)

It's been nearly 8 weeks since I began eating raw and even though I'd like to say I've been 100% raw, no doubt there has been some sugar in dressings I've ordered in resturants; but the worst is, 3 times in 1 1/2 weeks we've eaten in a wonderful Italian resturant in which I ordered salad, but I fought the Italian breadsticks and the Italian breadsticks won! Got to stay out of that place! Still feeling great, lots of energy, great sleep, weight seems to be stuck at 146, but that's 11 pounds lost in 8 weeks, so happy with that. Having a fruit smoothie, a veggie smoothie and salad today. Oh yes, the onion bread is wonderful - thanks to the creator of that recipe. Carolyn Otis

Good Morning ALL!

I'm starting my day a little late but am about ready to warm up the juicer. I will be making carrot juice and apple / celery / collard green juice for breakfast, we will have smoothies for lunch again and taco salad for dinner with raw salsa and guacamole - YUM! My attitude is good and my guests have been helpful. Have a great raw day!

Still here, still raw. I have been lax in posting. This morning I began with cactus pear & orange juice. I'm getting ready to put goodies in the dehydrator and make some dishes for the week. Tackling marinated greens. Seems easy enough.

Been eating a lot mostly fruit and nuts. Kind of a rough weekend with the fam:( so instead of eating SAD food for comfort I have been eating raw for comfort but that is way better in my book. Going to try and ween myself off the nuts next week while I am away being that I will not have them as easily accessible.

Were trying to get my dad to cut out drinking completely this holiday so were going to be each others support to keep me raw and him off the booze.

Have been eating kale chips ALL day. The kid loves them. We made the Goddess dressing recipe, and they came out great except we were lazy and didn't remove the stems - won't be doing that again! But the dog does like to eat them up - the vegetarian family version of giving her bones!

Now I have sweet potato in the dehydrator - I'm still not convinced that they are going to be good... I used coconut oil instead of olive oil, because the olive oil I have right now has a really strong flavor which I didn't think would taste good. So - we'll see...

So one nice thing, while my friends are all stressing about their Thanksgiving meals and shopping all weekend, we have decided to go to Cafe Gratitude in San Francisco for ours! I'm so psyched! And so grateful my family is so supportive. I will need to prepare a lot for Christmas, with some extra family coming in for 9 days!

OK off to hide the kale chips before dd eats them all up ;)

Hey all!

I made the raw icecream recipe - thanks Wendi! It was with cashews and dates and chocolate - not my recipe. Anyway - put it in the freezer and it came out a bit like soft serve. It was very good - very close to real icecream!

I made pesto sauce and raw neatballs to go on my zucchini noodles and marinara sauce and it was awesome! Actually did some uncooking this weekend for a change. Good for me!

Anyway...have a blessed evening. This is the big week and I am doing all the sad cooking. I am hoping to make the falafel balls out of Rawvolution book and perhaps a salad and soup. Sounds great to me !!!

Tough week, but hung in there like a bit of a champ. Made Alissa's pesto stuffed mushrooms and enjoyed for last night's dinner and lunch today. Awsome--even room temp at lunch.

Not hungry but darn tired tonight so not going to bother eating. Will probably enjoy the gs in the morning even better.

Tomorrow is weekly weigh-in for me. Never stressed, more curious. My clothes are fitting looser and my body lighter, so staying on the right track.

Will be pulling together my Thanksgiving recipes and taking several courses to dinner--will be SAD, but everyone loved all the dishes I brought last year--even the black forest cake and they hated cherries.

Catch you all tomorrow.

Keep it real and keep it raw.

I'm still here and still raw, of course!

I'm currently fasting.

Yesterday I:
Ate one grapefruit, then juiced 6 more (3 grapefruits juiced twice)

So far today:
Water
Carrot/Apple juice

I have to say, when you make a smoothie, shake, or even a juice, take a nice big wine glass and poor it in! It makes you feel like a princess drinking it!:D

That's too cute!

Well experiencing some discomfort. Yesterday I made flax crackers, nori snacks, carob almond balls and eggplant pizza. Snacking on it and alot of fruit all day. Then come lik 630 I started to feel sick to my stomach. I thought I was going to throw up. I just layed on the couch the rest of the night but had to help make SAD spinach pie for Thanksgiving. Now this used to be my absolute favorite meal in the whole world but looking at the chopmeat/spinach concoction was disgusting.

So I went to bed and when I woke up felt terrible. My stomach was girgling all night long and when got out of bed I had to GO to the bathroom really bad. I went like 5 times (felt terrible but now my stomach is nice and flat haha)

I still feel kind of nauseous. I just took some chlorella tablets because they are like my medicine haha anytime I dont feel quite right I take some more ha.

Just had a half of banana and having some cold tea.

On a lighter note my nails are stronger than ever! and growing long

solong - hope you are better soon. It might just have been a bit too much heavy things on your stomach - if I eat alot of crackers I have a problem with that laying heavy on mine and the fiber is too much too. Good luck!

I am getting alot of pressure about Thanksgiving Day and what will be made and who is coming, etc. I want it to be just like any other day and I want everyone to relax!! Including me. I keep saying don't worry it is what it is!
The Holidays do not have to be just about food - but old habits (other peoples) are sometimes hard to change I think.

Anyway...Happy Monday !!!

Hey all! I've had a great weekend of smoothies. Funny how buying a new item makes you want to use it ALL the time!
I have a scratchy throat....so I think I'll stick to smoothies, hoping to detox it, if I don't feel better soon, it'll be juice for me!! Worried about Thanksgiving. I don't have alot of money to spend on lots of "extras" so I think I'll just stick to salad that day....and I think I have all the stuff to make a pumpkin/butternut squash pie.....hope it turns out GREAT!!

Smoothies today....maybe some juice....

Have a blessed day!

Hi all!

Thanksgiving is stressing me out big-time.... on a frantic search to find some "nutless" dessert to take to the in-laws.... BIL is allergic to everything but pecans. So yeah... and can't get to the store in time to get young coconuts for some sort of filling (which would be a great alternative to cashews for a cheesecake or something...)... So VERY stressed right now. If anyone has ideas or advice, I would really really really appreciate it!

I will prob. eat butternut squash pie for the rest of the day - and a salad too - I made a delicious pie! and Nicole - I think it only has nuts in the crust, surely you could use pecans for those ... I found the recipe on here, its from Purely Delicious (and that it is!) here's the link:

Hi everyone

I've not been very hungry today until about 4pm. Just nibbled on fresh dates and tiny manderin oranges. Had a huge green juice when I got hungry. I'll probably sitck to fruit if i get hungry tonight.

I've only made one recipe from Alissa's book in total. I'm finding that i really dont want complex food, just eat it as it comes or put it in a juice or smoothie.

Simple really seems to be best for me.

Hello everyone! Hope your 30 day challenge is going well! This weekend was great. I made raw pumpkin pie and raw lasagna. 2 new ones for me and they were both really good. Raw pesto is so fantastic and easy that it is going to become one of my new staples!

Its day 20 can you even believe it?!?!?!

Busy day today. Last day of work before the holiday then coming home, packing, and preparing any last meals I wanna make before I go away. I am going to really try and keep things extremely simple while I am gone. I plan on having GS alot. For main dishes I am going to make up a spinach pie that mocks my favorite SAD dish so we shall see how that goes. I am also going to spiralize a bunch of squash and bring some tomato sauce and pesto just to have on hand. And I will be bringing a massive load of bananas because I will be eating a ton of ice cream haha

As for today. Not hungry this morning. Bringing an apple, a clementine and a banana to work. I dont get hungry until lik 5pm, is that weird? How can I change my pattern so that I am hungry all day and not all night?

helloooo dahlings.

Breakfast will be oranges and mangoes. Lunch will be nori rolls. I am IN LOVE with my new recipe. It's white miso, Real Pickles brand-Asian Cabbage, Mache, wasabi, and avocado. Last night I FINALLY found a sushi mat so it should look like the real McCoy now. LOL. Dinner is probably going to be a extra large salad of: Mache, Cukes, Alfalfa sprouts, carrots and mushrooms.

Busy foodday for me. I am going to make the Rawlmond Joys, the tortilla chips, and the pecan stuffing.

I am footloose and preschooler-free today so I am going to make the best of it. It's snowing like crazy here in New England, so I am not leaving the house today for ANY reason. I'm a skeerd of the snow here!

My Thanksgiving menu is shaping up to be: tortilla chips with mango salsa, fruit plate, Zaphirah's Pecan Stuffed Mushrooms, mashed cauliflower, salad with miso dressing and Gus's Rawlmond Joys for dessert.

now...what will I make for Christmas...hmmmmm.....LOL!

I can't believe it's almost 11 am here! My kids put a hurting on me this morning!! It was a GOOD hurtin'....we got up exercising to old videos. Oldest DS (12) and I did an 11 minute ab workout...then DD (7) chimed in...she wanted to do one of the workouts with stretchy bands....then did a few minutes with middle DS (10).....I'm tired, but feeling great...and having leftover smoothie!
I've never liked leftover smoothie, but this time I froze it in an ice cube tray...and let it thaw, and kept blending and stirring in my blender until it creamed back up...YUMM-O!!

I want to make MARAW'S PUMPKIN PIE....BUT I DON'T HAVE ANY PSYLLIUM HUSKS.....WHAT DO I DO???? I think I have arrowroot or something like that...is there a substitute? I really want this to turn out GREAT....I'm taking it to my families house on Thanksgiving. I think I will make the filling and let is sit overnight...and see how it "feels" in the morning. If it is "sloshy" I'll run to the HFS for psyllium, what do ya'll think???
I also want to make the recipe for corn nut dressing that was posted here. It sounds yummy.
So I guess Thanksgiving is looking like:
corn nut dressing
pumpkin pie (using butternut squash)
noasted turkey (Alissa's....maybe, it I have everything!)

OK....That's it.

Good morning, friends! I woke up feeling a little better today. I'm in a breakfast rut but still raw. Today is a cuh-RAY-zee day. I have to shop for last minute fresh food for tomorrow and take ds#1 to a kinda intense appointment. He's having genetic testing done. In the last year 3 or 4 DIFFERENT drs have told me that they think he has a genetic disorder based on his appearence. I think it's just "preemie-head" LOL! anyway-I feel very stressed and really LONGED for a coffee with cream and sugar to "calm my nerves" BUT I WON'T!!!!!

I PROMISE!!!!

I used to solve my negative feelings with food and now I can't/won't/don't do that. I will have to be right here, right now.

(there's more info in my Zaphirah Sunflower blog)

SO I CHOOSE TO BE RAW TODAY. I CHOOSE TO TREAT MYSELF WELL. I CHOOSE TO BE PRESENT for the GOOD, the BAD, and the UGLY. I WILL FACE MY FEARS WITH CONFIDENCE AND DIGNITY.

Who said "Courage is just fear that has said it's prayers?"

That's my motto for today!

Hello friends,
I didn't get to post yesterday - was busy and feeling a bit low on the energy spectrum ... and then it developed my first bout of "round 2 detox" you know not the withdrawal detox, but the cleaning house detox ... I am losing my voice and feel almost as if there is a heavy cough in my chest (from my neck to my breastbone I'm sick - the rest of me feels aoK :D ) - although I feel as I should be annoyed by this I am actually celebrating it. I am so excited that my body is loosening the next layer of junk, and getting rid of the unnecessary ... I think I will try to unload some of my excess from my house as well (my New Year's Resolution is to enter the New Year completely organized and without the accumulated papers and nick-nacks that are so easy to collect). I'm going to try to stick to juices and water today - but may eat something later if my body seems to want food. Have a great day!

Zaphirah - good luck with your sons appointment today - that sounds intense ... with things such as that I've found that living one foot in front of the other, one breath at a time, to be quite helpful - I hope it goes well and will be thinking about you.

Raspberry4

Zaphirah - good luck to you and your son. I like your motto - to be present for the good, bad and ugly. I am going to borrow that - I never realized it until you said it that way that stuffing myself with SAD over stress made it impossible for me to be alert and present. What a coward I was! Thanks for the insight and revelation.

Well, I broke my fast this morning with a green smoothie. Well here we are on the eve of the great feasting day in the States... I'm getting quite tired of people asking me if I'm ready for Turkey Day!! (besides the fact that I haven't had turkey in probably 17 or 18 years...)

It has been very busy at work so I haven't posted in a couple days. I've been eating very simply because I don't have the energy to make much. So mostly simple salad with avocado, smoothies and whole fruit. I did drive past my exit last night and go straight to the raw cafe down town. I felt I needed something substantial with minimal effort! I ordered the live pizza/salad and a my old fave - blueberry/lavender cheezcake. I was able to eat half the dinner and one bite of cake before feeling very full. So I had the rest for breakfast today!

I'm having a lot of drainage from my head today. Started yesterday afternoon. It's annoying, hoping it is that fabled "detox"... Also wondering if I have a problem with nightshades due to the spots on my face which aren't zits. I need to research that.

Can it be that I'm the first to post (besides our LOVELY Rawkinlocs!!):D

I've been waking up earlier than normal (5:30 or 6) and where I used to wake up at this time, and turn on the TV in my bedroom, and then fall asleep about 45 minutes later, and then oversleep....BUT the last couple of days, I've practically BOUNDED out of bed, ready for my day.

Got up this morning and got in alittle exercise....not overdoing, as it's been a LONG time since I've worked up a GOOD sweat.

For Thanksgiving I've prepared Maraw's cornbread stuffing, and pumpkin pie. I had forgotten that I really don't like dehydrated corn (I should've dehydrated the corn seperately, and then ground it into a corn "flour") Corn sticks to my teeth (that's why I don't like it, taste wise, I LOVE IT)

OK....breakfast will be a gs
lunch: stuffing, spinach salad w/ chopped apple, celery, walnuts, and whatever else I have that looks good) and PUMPKIN PIE! (for those who didn't see my post about how GREAT my pumpkin pie turned out, even my 2 picky boys, who eat mostly SAD, LOVED it, and can't wait to eat some today)...my DD (age 7) tasted it (she also helped me prepare) and kinda made a face. I realized it was just the texture she was not prepared for. I explained to her that it was like pudding pie, and she smiled and said, "it's good". It was kinda funny.
Dinner: ???? leftovers??

Have a BLESSED day

Happy Day Number 22 (woohoo) and Happy Thanksgiving.

Made falafel balls, almond milk/miso soup, and plan to make salad for me. Plus I also made my first cocoa avocado mousse pie with coconut and macademia nut crust. This will be my first raw Holiday.

Will also be making a huge sad feast for the others. But my raw food will have the most flavor to it, I am sure. I will give tastes of it to anyone who wants it ! Won't they be surprised (at the taste).

Have a great day. :)

I've been quite busy these couple of days, and haven't had time to post here.

I went to a raw potluck over the weekend. It was fun, and I met a lot of new people.

I had raw tacos, raw cacao/date pudding, and a couple of other things I can't put my finger on:eek:

Hey Everybody - Happy Gratitude ... I have completely lost my voice and have a scratchy throat - so I have not been able to talk with my family today (and I LOVE to talk) - but I noticed that when I journalled this morning that I went really deep - so maybe my body is telling me to spend some time alone and reflect.

Even though I can't talk, its nice to be with family - good to feel the love. My Thanksgiving feast flopped a bit - tasted way too salty to me, oh well, I am new on this journey and new to the whole food prep for raw, so I am on the learning curve, and learning to surf it. And I am celebrating the fact that I am raw - even if my culinary beginnings are slow - all raw rocks!

I hope you are all surrounded with love and warmth tonight - xoxoh

Took my raw feast to a SAD dinner. Some people tried some of the dishes. I was the only one who enjoyed my butternut squash pie--and I really did enjoy it. Took stuffing, mushroom gravy, mashed potatoes and cranberry salad. I also enjoyed a large serving of the tossed green salad that was there.

It was so nice not to be bloated and tired--ready for a nap like most others were. Raw rocks!

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving.

Good morning everyone!

I am so proud of myself - I made it through my first raw Holiday (thank God) even though I spent all day cooking sad for the family. The key was being prepared - I made the salad in the morning, the soup and chocolate mousse pie the night before, and the falafels too (which I forgot to eat) so I was really prepared.

I also hit the 50 pound marker yesterday (dropped)!!!

I missed my dad alot (he passed this June) and that was difficult.

I hope everyone has a great raw day. My oldest has alot of homework to do this weekend which really tick's me off because the kids should be able to relax during the vacation (and the parents too - since he has adhd I always have to check him and help him along to stay organized).

Looking forward to some more raw pie later on...:)

Wow Raspberry4, well done on the weight loss, thats amazing.

I've not been so strong this week and had a little of something cooked almost everyday this week even if it was just a little bite of something. I think its the change in the weather and because i've got a cold and am craving comfort food. I must be stronger tomorrow.

I have not slipped up at all and havent had any nuts. Actually Im really not even all that hungry but when I am I eat. I have my green smoothies daily and apples and bananas and such throughout the day. Its all going so well I cant even explain it in words. I hope everyone is doing well. If I can do it, anyone can!!! ah im so excited but I must get back to visiting with the fam!

Take care!:D:D:D:D

Sitting here enjoying a slice of butternut squash pie and checking the new posts--oh life is so good. Don't know if I'll be able to finish the whole pie--anyone freeze or otherwise use a leftover pumpkin dessert?

Cravings seem to be lessening by the day. Enjoying the raw lifestyle is such a gift to self, I'm seeking alternative recipes each time I have had a craving. Keep a baggie full of dried and nuts any time I need a little something but don't want a meal. Had leftovers from yesterday for breakfast.

Planning a huge endive salad with lots of veggies for supper. My body seems to now want some lighter or green food.

Congratulations Rasberry!, I know that you worked hard to release so much weight, and I am so glad you did it - raw style :D I also know that it was not as much work as it would have been, had you been on a cooked diet. And for that - I am super thankful. It also doesn't hurt that I have dropped 10 pounds this month so far:D I feel so free of food addiction when I eat only raw/living foods. Next week I go on a Caribean cruise and I am looking forward to the tropical fruits and melons!:D

Oh Raspberry - thank you for the beautiful picture, and congratulations on your releasing of the extra wieght - what a gift to receive at holiday time! :D

My voice is still MIA  - this happened right away when I went raw the last time, its interesting to me that this time it's been almost 60 days before the voice disappeared - our bodies work in mysterious ways ... this time, the good thing is that I am keeping it raw through and through - I am holding tight to my food plans and am pretty sure this is just detox ... I think maybe ginger juice might help - with lemon and honey ... has anyone ever juiced mint? Maybe that would be good too ... hmmm

Also my sense of smell is a bit diminished from the super nose that I have had - the managers at work bought pizza yesterday for all the staff and I could barely smell it - and we also received a box of candy from our corporate office ... It was strange because normally when others are eating chocolate i can smell it, but not yesterday (I think maybe this is a blessing :) ).

So yesterday I ate a bag of clementines and then at the end of the day I had onion bread with avocado slices ...

Today I began with watermelon, and think that I will continue on my citrus kick it just feels right - maybe I'll throw some greens in the mix later, although right now the thought of them kinda makes my stomach turnover in a bad way ... Ah I've rambled long enough (in writing is the only way i can today :p )

Have a great day friends!

raspberry4,

Thank you for the beautiful picture--could just reach in and start putting the lucious produce in my shopping bag. Agree--SAD can't even come close.

Hannah, Have read where opera singers used raw pineapple juice to keep their voices in top form or remedy when they overdid. Maybe worth a try. Hope you feel better soon.

Can't believe how fast this month has gone, too.

Almost there! Not a difficult month at all. I've been away all week and it hasnt been too rough. I've kinda been avoiding the snack tables but if I am standing in front of it I do not feel all that deprived. I thought it was pretty funny how my brother would eat too much of SAD food then complain all night about how terrible his stomach felt and that helps me realize I am doing the best thing for me because I do not have those wicked stomach issues anymore. I have been eating a bit more lately, lots of fruits. Still no nuts:D

Well back to regular posting come wednesday. Until then, cheers everyone!

Hey all! I have had a great raw day....
breakie: banana sliced, chopped apple, drizzle agave w/ walnuts and a sprinkle of nutr. yeast....weird combo, right??

Lunch: salad

Dinner: not sure yet.

I did not get to post yesterday, but I had the most amazing, simple dinner:
spirooli-ed (spaghetti style) butternut squash drizzle of evoo with some sea salt, chili powder, coriander, curry...all sprinkled and then put in the dehydrator for about 30 minutes to "warm" up....this was really yummy, and an EXCELLENT alternative to my family's spaghetti dinner. I felt like THEY were the ones that were deprived!:D

I have been on thyroid meds now for 11 days....I'm waiting to feel better, but trying to stay 100% because I know that staying 100% will make all the difference for my body to heal. I'm torn between waiting for the meds to make a difference......and knowing that eating right will (in the long run) make the difference in my healing (not just put a band-aid on my problem). Am I talking in circles???

Ya'll take care. I have to go to the grocery store in the morning, we're out of some produce....;)

Well - it was a quick day for me - it always is when I work on Sundays ... my voice is getting better, but its still not quite there yet. I have 2 lbs. to release before I'm at my doctor's goal for me, and 7 lbs. before I'm at my relative low, its been about 55 days 100% and I am finding more and more inspiration, and less and less desire to escape - I think in the past I used food and television as passive escapes, now I am seeking to live actively! Hoo-raw!

Today I had bananas with hazelnut butter and cacao syrup for breakfast - then marinated greens and clementines for lunch - and now I am going to meditate before having dinner - I'm thinking maybe I'll have cucumber mint juice, but who knows maybe I'll break open the pineapple the I have sitting on the counter - we'll see  Be well and have sweet dreams in the night.

I'm here, I'm raw, and I'm happy!:D

My man got back early, so I broke that fast about a week before I had intended to, but it's all good.

Yesterday I had, 2 salads, some homemade seasoned almonds and pistachios, water, and a few sips of hubby's drink concoction (apple, cinnamon, and banana).

Today is my oldest's birthday! He's 12! Anyone mind telling me where the last 12 years went? Anyhow, he had wanted Alissa's Banana Butter Berry Pie. And I was going to make him that. But then, I was flipping through her book, and came across the recipe for her Pineapple Cake. See, she said in there it reminds her of bundt cake. Well, I used to make a KILLER (literal even) Lemon Creamcheese Pound Cake. And ds was sad cause I hadn't figured out how to make it raw yet. So when I saw the Pineapple Cake description, I figured it'd be the next best thing. And that boy LOVES him some pineapple!

So, he doesn't know that that is what's in the dehydrator getting ready for him! I'm so excited to try it. I'll let ya'll know how it comes out. Ooh! And it's SO easy to make (of course), and the batter really does even SMELL like pound cake when you're making it! So WICKED COOL!

Hi all! Had some rough times over T-giving... all vegetarian, but anywhoo...

This was the longest I have ever been raw, and I really did accomplish what I sought out to do: Decide if it was for me... and the answer is a resounding YES YES YES OH YES!!!!!!

Having experienced highs and lows, and feeling the energy and power and community of other raw fooders, I know....deep within... that this is for me now, and always. Whenever I slip, I know I will come back.

Okay so I've been feeling a little burnt out on food prep. Went to bed with Alissa's book last night to see if I could be inspired. Brought two smoothies and some clementines to work - not terribly exciting but at least my smoothies are pretty yummy. Frozen bananas, raw cacao, spinach, ginger, orange zest, goji berries, soaked cashews, EFA oil and H20.

I have a dehydrator now, but haven't made too much in it. The goddess kale chips came out well, and were devoured by all, but my sweet potato chips I didn't like much. DD ate them up though, kept telling everyone they were "cooked carrots" for some reason. I guess the end product didn't translate as sweet potato to her! I think I'm nervous to try more. Failure seems very expensive on this diet, and I'm a bit strapped right now. Plus it s such a long preparation time. I guess you just get used to it. (?)

I have electrical failure in my wall that connects the television and the stove on opposite sides. What is the universe telling me?

Have a great day, everyone!

Not hungry this morning so satisfied with a banana and a couple brazil nuts. Just had a light lunch of some leftover Thanksgiving stuffing which I went heavy on the mushrooms. Quite tasty. This month (the whole year actually) has gone so fast. So nice to see my pants getting baggier and my skin and body getting back to its shape. Feeling sooo much better this month.

Will be making something spicy for dinner--either the spicy cilantro soup recently noted in a new thread or Alissa's Pad Thai.

Hi everyone!

Well.....

The cake was good, but not done all the way. For us, I guess it'd take closer to 30-36 hours at 105 for it to be done. The other thing, is if you like your cake sweet, you may want to add some honey or agave to the batter. Cause everyone wanted it sweeter. We just drizzled a little agave on top and then they were satisfied.

But I would definitely recommend making it! It's a nice cake to have around and yummies.:D

Okay, I have been 60% raw. I finally got my blender and dehydrator delivered to my home. I mailed it over to a relative, because I would have been away from home during time of delivery. Since I don't have a car, I had to wait two weeks to have someone bring it home, because the boxes are HUGE!

So in December, I can finally say that I can try to be 100% raw.:D

I haven't been 100% raw this month either. Difficult with Thanksgiving. It's a fattening, turkey day for my family.

Christmas is easier for me, since on Christmas Day we usually have what we call "snackies". You crackers, cheese, veggies with dips, etc. It will be easy to make snack for me, plus snacks for my family this way. Also my sons like my raw foods, they have tried some when they come over, and really enjoyed the food I have made in my dehydrator. (My boys are all grown.) Also I really want to try the wonderful sounding desserts and candies, in Alissa's book and on this site.

So hopefully I can try the 30 day Challenge in December, and do well this time.

Hey Everybody ... sounds like its been a good day here at Raw Food Talk. I have been finding inspiration abounding in my life - this is a very good thing indeed :D . I've been going through some detox, lost my voice, and had a deminished sense of smell, today my voice is almost back to normal (it sounds kinda like a sexy bedroom voice - too bad I'm a single gal tonight ;) ) Today I had some strong cooked cravings, which to signals that I am most likely detoxing (as I had suspected). I nipped those cravings in the bud in a most wonderful way - I made a delicious asian noodle (zuccini) salad - inspired by the one at whole foods that had me using all my will power to grab a lara bar and head to the check out. It was the perfect ending to a craving, a living treat - yumm-OH! Oh yeah!

Sister Shine, thanks for the pineapple cake suggestion - I actually have a pineapple standing by (it was meant to help my voice, but now that that is already happening perhaps its time to cake it up)

Have a great evening everybody!

Made it home - very crazy commute today. Was somehow inspired to make "taco meat" - don't know where that came from! Found a recipe for refried beans in Alissa's book. Didn't have the right ingredients but it turned out pretty good! Instead of chickpeas and walnuts, I used soaked cashews and young coconut meat. So it probably wasn't as crunchy as her recipe... anyways, I put that on lettuce leaves with some chopped tomato and cilantro and sprinkled nutritional yeast on top. I do miss the crunch of taco shells. I ordered raw "tacos" before but didn't like what they wrapped them in.

Now I have been instructed to make more dang kale chips. My family is addicted to them. Could be worse!!!

Good morning everyone!

My oldest son has a bad cough that is now bronchitis and it is loud and very harsh and keeps me up at night begging God for help. There is not much I would not do for my kids. I wish I could take that cough away from him and since he is not contagious he has to go to school coughing like that. The teachers put ALOT of pressure on the kids to not take off from school. They make it almost impossible to catch up. Anway...I am so tired from not sleeping at night and working all day and trying every measure I can think of to help my child feel better (nothing is working). It is very frustrating as I can't stand when my children are hurting! Kids should not have to go thru the crap that adults do.

Anyway...good luck with today's raw food journey.

Not too shabby! I'll make it out of the 160's in no time!:p

Oh, btw, I have NO idea how it's going to look next month! I'm going to start working out, seriously this time, on Dec. 2nd. So my weight MAY go up before it goes down. No biggie though. I've seen the difference in my body since being raw and in my health and energy too! That's all I need to know!:D

Oh, and next month, I'll be giving my measurements too. Just keep in mind, we didn't have a tape measure until about two and a half weeks into me being raw, and I had already lost 11 pounds by then. So I won't know my true BEGINNING measurements, but it'll be close enough for me!

Have a GREAT raw day everyone! Keep up the great fun! (Too much fun to call it work!) There's only a few days left, and I KNOW ya'll can do it!:D

wow shine!!!!! that's AMAZING!!! It took me FOUR YEARS to lose 74 lbs and it took you only 10 MONTHS to lose nearly EIGHTY POUNDS!!!!!! You are INCREDIBLE!!!!!!!

Let's see. My blog today was all about being FREE from my compulsive eating. I love raw. I woke up THANKFUL for this answered prayer. When I was in the depths of binge eating I never would have imagined that this was possible.

Today is day 81.

Shine: You are increcible! Congrats on all the weight loss.

I feel really bad today. I am exhausted, and want to go to bed.

The kids started school on time, and we've done pretty good today, but all of a sudden, I am SOOOO incredibly tired I can hardly focus my eyes (they really want to shut).

Yesterday afternoon, DH called me with bad news. One of our friends was killed in a car wreck yesterday morning. His dad works with DH at the firestation (volunteer) and HE was a Jr. firefighter....16 years old. Just got his license about 3 weeks ago. He was such a great kid. My boys really looked up to him. He was one of those kids who just seemed to have his stuff together.
Dh says they are giving him a full fireman's funeral....sometime this week. I'm so sad. His family is such a good family. Please pray for them.

Today's food:
breakfast: 1 banana, 1 apple, some walnuts, drizzled with agave and a heavy sprinkling of nutr. yeast.
Lunch: not hungry....yet....maybe a smoothie...

I am craving another butternut squash spaghetti, with all the spices I put on the last batch...evoo, sea salt, cumin, coriander, curry....chili powder...it was sooooo yummy!

I feel so guilty talking about food. A mom I know is SERIOUSLY GRIEVING for the loss of her baby.....how can food mean anything right now? I Know, if I'm not careful, I will start to binge on SAD comfort foods. Feeling this sad is a major trigger. I can see it so clearly. What comfort foods should I eat now...NO WAIT, FOOD IS NOT THE COMFORTER, MY GOD IS!!!!!!!
Hanging in there.

Wendi

Wendi - I am so sorry for all the losses surrounding you right now. I will tell you now though, that going back to SAD comfort foods will only make you feel 100x worse. So grieve the grief, but stick to raw. You'll be so grateful you did when you come through the other side.

Those families will be in my thoughts and prayers. My dad was a volunteer firefighter for many years. When their house recently had an issue (as in was REAL close to going up in smoke), 4 different companies came out when they heard it was my dad's house. You can definitely count of ff's to honor that boy properly!

((((Wendi)))), you WILL get through this. And you CAN do it raw!:)

Some things I've noticed:

I can fall asleep right away, whereas before going raw, I cannot remember being able to fall asleep easily at night since I was a teenager.

I don't need caffeine.

I don't need sleeping pills.

I don't crave certain vitamin pills like I used to (namely B-complex) and don't need to take enzymes like I used to.

No digestive or elimination problems.

Tendonitis seems to be gone.

Gone down 2 pants sizes without adding exercise (though I plan to)

NO body odor. I don't have to wear deodorant anymore.

I'm sure there's more... must get back to work!

:D

Edited to add: NO MORE DEBILITATING HEADACHES EVERYDAY!!!
I can't believe I forgot that one. I have been taking advil & tylenol on a daily basis, often the max allowable, for years. Nothing helped get rid of them, but they have now disappeared. On the rare occasion that I get one now (usually after staring at the computer too long), I drink a glass of fresh OJ and it goes away immediately.

Wendi, So sorry for all the sad losses in your life. Others have already advised, but eating sad does not take away any of the feelings--buries them and leaves your body feeling crummy.

Congratulations Shine--what an inspiration to all of us to stay the course.

Did my weekly weigh-in today and have released four pounds since the last weighin a couple weeks ago. I knew my weight was down because of the way my clothes have been fitting (nicer)--will be staying the course--remembering Sedona's saying keeps me quite on track as raw feels a million times better than any sad food I could think to put into my cleansing body. Some days that is my mantra.

Thought I'd write out what I had today.
(The water drinking was spread out over time, except in the morning I don't really chug water.)

At home:

24 oz lemon water
6 oz kombucha

Brekky at work:

16 oz raw chocolate, ginger, spinach, banana, hemp seed, efa oil smoothie.

Snack:

2 clementines
1 persimmon
24 oz water

Lunch

Some raw crackers with cashew spread and cranberry-orange relish

1:30 pm:
16 oz Jamba Juice smoothie of fresh OJ, banana & frozen strawberries
24 oz water

Dinner/evening:

Nori rolls made of sunflower & cilantro sprouts, avocado, red bell pepper, cucumber, last nights weird leftover "taco meat" and umeboshi plum paste. Tonight I put a little oil and salt on the raw nori sheets and put them in the dehydrator for maybe 20 minutes until they were crispy. That made all the difference!
12 oz water

This month just flew by!

I was so proud that I made it thru raw during Thanksgiving - for me that was a huge success!

My son is still ill - has a horrible bronchitis type cough. Is under alot of pressure at school too (3 projects are due at the same time). I feel so bad for him! It is hard to find any sustainable relief for his cough too :(

Good luck and enjoy your day today everyone!:)

Aw I hope your son feels better raspberry.

I too cant believe how fast this month went by. I just got back from vacation last night, so back to my regular posting.

While I was away I kept it really simple, eating tons of fruit and I loved it. It was so easy and if I wanted something I just grabbed an apple or clementine and never felt deprived. It was fabulous.

Well have a good day everyone.

day 28. . . Getting (and craving) more greens in now. Striving for 1 green smoothie (or juice) and one large salad a day.... Without even thinking about it though, yesterday, I had two salads, 1 green juice +beet, and a large green smoothie! Soooooooooo yummy :)

heeellloooo ladies. All is well here in Western Mass. Loving the Live Life. My tummy is all butterflies when I think of dh's upcoming company Christmas party on the 8th. I bought a great dress, but I am afraid it's not going to fit well when the time comes. I actually have nightmares about it. Yesterday I really overate (all raw). I think it was nerves due to the fact that I have to go back to the dentist today. Seems silly, but I have had extensive dental work and the dentist is a living NIGHTMARE for me. Gotta work on paying more attention to my inner self so I don't try to medicate with food, even if it is raw, ya know?

Not sure what I will eat today, stocks are running low. Maybe a trip to WF is in order.

Have a wonderful day!

So time is flying by, and I still don't feel like I'm making much headway in the realm of "delicious" raw food... But I'm still raw, and my husband is extremely high raw and my mom and daughter eat some of whatever I make... all is good!

I am going to .... Disneyland .... next week. My mom's birthday present to herself. Not terribly thrilled and have been stressing about food, and having to make and pack so much in a cooler, and would it all survive... So I was looking for maybe a nearby raw restaurant and came across Rawvolution - I might just order and go pick up their Box! I would still need 2 days of food, but I can probably handle that. I think I might bring my blender this time. Not sure. I need to go look at some "traveling while raw" threads I think.

All right, going to attempt to make crackers for the first time today. Have the flax soaking. Also, I want to make tamari almonds if I can find a recipe.

Have a great day everyone!
It's the first day of the rest of your life!
(cliche, but I love it!)

Have been on such a spicy kick lately. Don't know where that's coming from, but my body is asking for it and I'm sure enjoying all the dishes. Have made some green salads, but not wanting green smoothies as much the last couple days. They always seem to keep my on an even keel and a great start to the day. Will probably jump back in tomorrow.

Made Alissa's Pad Thai sauce and added cayenne to kick it up a couple notches, cilantro and served with lime juice on top of shredded red and green cabbage, mung sprouts, a bag of the kelp noodles, grated carrot, minced onion, and a couple handfuls of baby spinach. The sauce softens the kelp noodles so they are like clear Thai noodles (just love eating this).

Hope everyone has a rawlicious day!

Lady Green Jeans - what are the kelp noodles? Are they sort of clear and in the refrigerator case? That pad thai sounds great! I want to make it for tonight.

GypsyAnsara,

They are from Sea Tangle and I got them at Jimbo's Health Food Store. They're clear and kind of firm/crunchy in texture until you put them in sauce, which has softened them every time for me. You could maybe have your store special order them or get a case direct from the company. I pulled one of my bags from the fridge and here is the contact info: 760-749-7575 www.kelpnoodles.com. They are a 12 oz. bag in the refrigerated section--and the whole bag has only 18 calories. I mix with other things usually and they are so amazingly like the clear Thai noodles that they are now a staple for me and I keep several bags in the fridge for meals (good shelf life, too). I heard about them on a thread here and was happy to find them.

They also make a raw seaweed salad that is salted so needs soaking before using. Haven't tried my package of that yet.

Wanted to thank the person who posted the eggless egg salad recipe. I made that for my dinner tonight and stuffed it in small criminis (stems removed)--WOW! Also had some on cucumber slices, but the mushrooms were almost like eating a real deviled egg (only slightly firmer).
