Hello all,
Been raw for about 5 weeks now and I hit a detox today- anyone ever just feel feverish, sore throat, and just weird? Laid around all morning playing a video game with the DD, and then went back to bed to shiver for a few hrs.

Only had a green juice today, so far. Prolly best if I don't eat!

Saltywater--I just read your post for today. Do you have a recipe for the spicy tahini dressing you took to your event? I just bought my first jar of raw tahini and am at a loss as to how to make it into a dressing.

Thanks.

Hi Guys

Not posted since day one. Been really busy but things are going fine. I''ve hardly been 'eating' anything solid at all but have had loads of green juices and smoothies. Daytimes have been easy cos its just me at home but i find it hard to replace the evening meal. I rarely fancy a salad because its cold and dark and im usually cooking something for my husbands dinner, but somehow a smoothie dosent seem like dinner either. I dont fancy any of the gourmet style meals either, i prefer to eat simply. I was never one for cooking elaborate meals.

That aside, I ran a 1/2 marathon yesterday and felt great. It wasn't a race just a training run and i followed it up with a 5k race today. I havent weighed myself but my shape has definately altered. My clothes are looser on my stomach and chest, hooray!!!! My nails are normally really weak and split but they are growing really strong now.

I gave up alcohol and had been eating about 50-75% raw for 2 weeks
The only downside has been a consistant headache which ended up as a migrane thursday night. The headache has totally gone now. Tomorrow is my giving up smoking day so i'm expecting some nasty coughing by the end of the week if not before. I'm prepared for it.

This week i will make a point of eating a salad in the daytime with lots of nuts and seeds.

Today was another great day. Spent ALOT of time yesterday and this morning uncooking. 2 different types of bread and finished the raw pizza. The breads are OK, still not used to the "flatness" and the pizza came out picture perfect if I do say so myself.

I find myself getting the itch to make these recipes and then find that it's too much food for just me. I wish there was a way to just make 1 or 2 servings of the pizza and other dishes. Taste-wise I prefer the more simple dishes or mono meals though, but that's what this process is all about right? Learning about what I like RAW, right?

But HOO-RAY for me!!! I've lost 5 lbs. this week!!! WOO-HOO!!!

All I ate today was 3 bananas and 2 slices of raw pizza. It's truly amazing how filled up I get on so little food when it's REAL food.

Tomorrow morning I start a new job....and I already have my breakfast planned - a banana/coconut smoothie - YUM.

Have a great raw tomorrow everyone.

I've been sticking to raw but I feel like I am snacking a lot. I also think I am eating to many nuts. Im gonna say that this is greatly do to the fact that it is the weekend so I am home just chillin around. During the week will be different, but snacking raw is better than snacking SAD

When I first went raw 3 weeks ago after the 2nd day I got all sickest with the cold/hot thing, sore throat and general feeling yucky. It'll pass just grin and bear it.
So far I've been doing pretty good on my eating. Yesterday I went into town with dh and dd. We went to an Irish Pub for lunch and I was so sure it'd be another disaster for me foodwise. But was I wrong!! They had a great green salad with vegies!! I had the balsamic vinegar dressing as I forgot to take some of my own. I bought some raw "sushi" for dinner last night, yummy!! Also had assorted vegies with dressing.
Today was a mixed up mess. I thought I was going to do a master cleanse so didn't plan anything for me foodwise for dinner. Well by late afternoon I decided this wasn't for me....Oh yuck!! hate the stuff and it was upsetting my stomach and I was scared crapless after reading some forum postings somewhere else. No go for me! I might try a water or juice fast some day but no way the MC. So I had a salad for supper. Haven't go any deserts made but have my crackers on hand if I get hungry later. Almond butter with honey will cover me.
Tomorrow I will make some fudge balls and something good for dinner. I had made some refried beans but after 1 day of eating this (and there's soooo much more!!) I'm tired of it. Can't say that I find it tastes like refried anything to me....just tastes like humus, wonder what I did wrong??
More tomorrow................

Well, A pretty good wrapup for the weekend. Did the food sampling as always--absolutely no temptations today--awsome. Brought the last of the gazpacho (oh so delicious) and a container of red raspberries for lunch--very satisfied. Had made a smoothie early this am but did not have time to enjoy it before heading off to church so it is in the fridge--don't know if it will be still drinkable tomorrow as I usually enjoy them frozen. Will give it a go, though. Well was pretty hungry when I got home tonight and a little concerned about staying raw, but made a simple Pad Thai with my kelp noodles and mung sprouts--ohhhh ssooooo happy being raw is all I have to say. Spicy goodness and crunchy--just plain good. So glad to be adventuring and staying raw at the same time. This commitment to self will not falter. Feeling so awsome and every day--even if it's only been four days--has been absolutely positive.

Have a rawlicious day everyone! So glad to be here.

Started my day with fruit fruit plate at a non-raw restaurant near us. They also squeeze fresh orange juice, so I loved it. My husband had a Denver omelette (Oh my!).

Then I walked the 5 1/2 miles home. It was a beautiful day!

Lunch: leftover food from Cafe Gratitude yesterday

Dinner: salad

Reached my weekly goal or 35 miles walking with 38.5 this week.

Sorry to have the weekend end.

hi...
here i go again...
i canīt belive itīs only been 5 days. it seems that itīs part of my day to day, there is no effort in making food and eating it.
yesterday it was hard, just because i was ou of the house longer than i planned and i only had a sml pear and apple with me. but i made it. Strangely when i got home i only drank a glass of almond milk some flax crackers and didnīt feel like dinner. i did have the worst headaches though...detox or not enough water.

had water today first thing, and later on a green juice.

be back soon.

have a strong monday!!!!!;)

Todays breakfast: Smoothie of raspberries, banana, apple, sprouts and green leaves.

I feel nervous and restless today, mixed up with joy and warmth. Feels like something great is about to change in my life. Mind is clearer. I have inspiration to start up something new. A dancegroup in church maybe.

I have a feeling that raw heals you on many other levels than the physichal.
That it can make you change your life.

All the best to you,

good morning.

i didn't post sat or sun because i was away from a computer.

on saturday my fiance and i went to a raw food pot luck party.
we had such a great time, lots of great food and rawsome people.
we made the lemon poppyseed cake from purely delicious and it was
such a hit, everyone couldn't believe it was raw.

other than that we ate pretty simple this weekend, salads, fruits and smoothies.

Wow, day 5 already. Going to tackle the smoothie I made yesterday and didn't have time to drink. Last night I made some warm chocolate milk with water, Alissa's cocoa powder, some brazil nuts, dash of cinnamon, squirt of agave, few drops of vanilla and a teasp. maca. Left it whirring in the vitamix till just warm. One of the best things I have had in a loonnnng time. No gritty texture as I used to get from using the nibs.

Anyway today's lunch will be leftover Pad Thai with kelp noodles and mung sprouts. Pretty much Alissa's recipe but add some heat, cilantro and lime wedges. Don't know about supper yet but need to do a recipe using green zebra tomatos pretty soon--maybe lasagna if I remain motivated.

Just loving on everything I've been making lately and feeling better each day. Today I will be doing my weekly weigh in--not fretting the scale as I prefer the "pants-o-meter" anyway.

Hope you all have a rawlicious day.

Feeling MUCH better today. I woke up a bit stuffy and at first I thought I was going to have a sore throat but it all quickly passed and my day is going GREAT. AND I woke up earlier than I have in a long time without an alarm clock. I haven't quite figured out how I'm going to navigate dinner at my mom's house yet, but I will probably just bring a big salad to go with dinner and know she won't care if I don't eat the cooked portion. I've got a great mom.

Have a GREAT day!

Happy Day #5 everyone!

So on to the exercise part - I found an old Susan Powter tape to use with the step and that worked much better for me than the Firm Transfirmer with the box at this time. I was not bouncing like a bunny...and made it through pretty well, as well as I could do it at this point. Onward and upward...

Monday's are always tough with work and starting the week. I have alot of appointments this week and it will be tough, but one hour at a time, right?

Have a good raw Monday everyone :) Your menu ideas sound so delicious!

woo hoo! Wanted to make a green smoothie and/or green juice this morning, but I slept weird, and didn't have time. I went to bed early (9:00  ), but then woke up at 2 and couldn't sleep until 5:00... so yeah.

Had tea upon rising,
took fruit (apple, 2 baby bananas, and a bag of purple grapes) to work,
and also packed veggies for later (celery, red pepper, and carrots). Also packed a collard wrap with avocado, tomato, mustard, and my sage burger creation. Can't wait to eat that!

walked to work (2.5 miles), listening to a podcast (raw vegan radio).

Ready for day 5!

Hi All
well the theme of my detox is still gunge, gunge, gunge:p LOL
Am feeling better though so managed to do my 2 aqua aerobics classes & a gym circuit today.

I woke up wanting wintery foods, it is very cold & grey here in my part of the Uk. I made a raw version of blackerry crumble...so YUM:D

Just blended the blackberries & left to sit while I made the crumble topping from 1 cup almonds, 1/2 cup dried shredded coconut (unsweetened), 1/2 cup sultanas & 1/2 cup raisins with nutmeg, cinnamon & cloves. Just processed all together til it looked like crumbs.

Had a raw bar after all the swim/gym activity...probably have a huge mixed salad tonight or nori rolls.
Have a great day everyone:D

Morning everyone. I had a busy weekend. Had my daughter's baby shower Sat. My DIL's father is a chef and made lasagna for the party and one of her friends made a Tres Leche cake (OMG!). I made the marinara sauce for the first time and put it over sliced zuchini so I'd look like I was eating something similar. (No one noticed) I made a huge salad which everyone gobbled up! I made myself a fruit bowl for dessert and was not a bit tempted by all the other food. Then my dear children (all grown w/their own homes and kids) decided before they left to have a family breakfast Sunday morning at my house! They love to all come home and have me fix one of my old SAD breakfasts for them. I'm so grateful that my grown kids still want to come home and share a special time/memory together, but it's a lot of work for me--and I don't eat any of it!! I slipped in fresh squeezed oj on them. Oddly enough, my SAD husband wanted his green smoothie! So that's what he and I had and I fixed the rest for the family (which he also ate!). Everyone was happy, I was elated at not being tempted (because as I mentioned last week, that stuff does not repulse me in the least). I feel in more control of my life and eating than I ever have. Sorry this is so long, but I wanted to share that overcoming all sorts of food issues is possible--and even cooking for others can be done with minimal disturbance once the "decision" has been made. Hoping you all have a successful day.

Hey everyone!

Back from a GREAT WEDDING this weekend. My family drove more than 3 hours out of town to be there, and it was great fun. I enjoyed the fellowship, and didn't concentrate on the food at all.....it was great, and I felt liberated, not to think about so much, what I would eat. I ate was availbable, drank water, and snacked on seasoned, dehydrated nuts. The Groom actually gave me a "bucket" of pecans that came from their pecan tree. I can't wait to shell them...I think I will make a pecan pie from them!!!

Today I've had:
herbal tea
seasoned nuts
large salad with sunflower seeds...
Not sure what else I'll have..maybe a nori roll with miso soup.

Take care ya'll!!

I've been trying so hard but always cave in at dinnertime but today i've managed 100% raw! Yippee:D

I told hubby that i wouldn't be eating the same as him and we had a chat about raw food, the theories and benefits etc and he was fine with it (but wont be joining in).

The key for me has been having my main meal in the day rather than waiting till dinner, and NOT having a smoothie for breakfast. It makes me so full up i dont want anything till evening except a few snacks, and then i just didn't face salad for dinner! I dont have a dehydrator and am happy to keep food simple, despite all the lovely recipes available.

Today i had a green juice with oranges, spinach, celery, tomato and grapes for brekkie, a large salad with spinach, coriander, mint, parsley, other salad stuff with sunflower seeds and pine nuts. I've snacked on dates, a few walnuts and apples and im totally full.

Crystalmoon, i love the crumble recipe, i think i'll try it! Have you seen the detox tea in tesco? I bought some today and its lovely!

Just had a late lunch. I am so tired today and just blah. I am wondering if this is the beginning of some detoxing. I am at work and just completely unmotivated to accomplish anything. I just want to go home and sleep but I cant. I have a "wonderful" 2 hour commute home then I will be forcing myself to go to jazzercise. After that I get to do homework and shower then maybe I will get some sleep.

Whats good for ENERGY while possibly detoxing cause I am in need of some!

So it's been 5 days and this is my first post. I have been sleeping for hours on end. I am happy to be doing this for my body but I have to say, this detox thing is no joke . . .unless this isn't detox. I have so much mucus that I feel like I'm strangling on it, my skin looks terrible and I want to sleep like the dead. Sounds depressing huh? Surprisingly, I'm not feeling down because I know that once this storm passes I will see the benefits and that is really excited. I am so glad that you guys are here and I am not doing this alone. Rawk on guys!

Depressing? No. Familiar. Yes.

I am amazed at just how much mucus is in my head.

For me, today has been great because my head doesn't feel like it's in a vice grip.

I, too, am easing through this knowing goodness awaits on the other side, but yikes...

Today's smoothies:

Green:
-Spinach
-Cucumber
-Romaine lettuce
-Apple
-Strawberries
-Banana

Fruit:

-Orange juice
-Strawberries
-Watermelon
-Honeydew melon
-Cantaloupe
-Banana

I also had some bagged salad.

Yesterday, I binged on cashews. Does anyone else have a weakness for cashews?

Have to report in--today was weigh in day (1x a week)--whoot!--lost 5 lbs. over about a three week period.

Wendy, Am with you on the cashew addiction. Started eating the raw ones many years before I even heard of the raw diet. They may seem bland and not overly flavorful, but they sure are easy to eat and eat. Now I dole them out to myself either in a little baggie or mixed in trail mix. I also rotate the nuts I use in recipes so as not to tire of one kind. With the November challenge, I am trying to not have so many nut-rich recipes as I really tend to go overboard and then the weight does not shift and I get feeling physically bogged down. Thankfully, my body seems to be craving a wide variety so I relly do feel in pretty good balance.

I've been incredibly busy, working two double shifts and an early morning meeting. I was relieved that the cafeteria had FRESH FRUIT for once. I took the whole container :D Wheatgrass powder and orange/apple juice saved my life this weekend. I wasn't able to juice because I was too busy to wash my dishes..first time since I started juicing hardcore. With all the fruit and juice, etc. my blood sugar was stable and even a tad low at 95 around 2100 on a busy Friday night.

I just had a bowl warm cut oatgroats, raisins and cinnamon because I was hungry.

Hello all=)

Felt a bit better today, just caught the cold bug that is going around- its nice to be able to kick it so quickly! I always got sick for weeks before.

Today I started my cycle and I had almost no cramping- wow! I have always had terribly painful periods, and there was some reduction in issues last month- but I was very impressed with how today went. Normally being ill and first day would floor me, but even though I was a bit weak and tired, I felt pretty energetic.

Had today-
green juice
half luna bar (shared with baby)
half berry/banana/apple smoothie (shared with baby)
apple
pear
small salad with seeds, veggies and flax oil
part of a one lucky duck crispy bar (basically seeds, almonds, raisin and honey)

I dont have time to read through todays posts, I hope all went went well and bright blessings to all=)

Good morning....getting onboard late today.

Kids have started school, and we're having a bit of a power struggle.

Today, I haven't eaten anything. I need to eat. I have had herbal tea....

I just don't have an appetite for anything.

I need to get some supplies...I'm out of my favorite walnuts, and I need some agave or honey sweetner.

Two of my kids are being so sweet right now, they are making me a chopped banana with some walnuts! My oldest DS read while I was typing that I haven't eaten yet, so they are making me some food...how simple and easy for children to make RAW foods...no cooking required, safe for them, ya know!!!

OK....I'm off to have breakfast...and a much better day!!

Made some cranberry sauce to go over it (cranberries in blender with agave) and Alissa's mayo - so I plan to eat that for dinner wrapped in lettuce - sounds good at least, maybe the condiments will jazz it up a bit. Plan soup for lunch with veges and possibly a salad.

Have a wonderfully rawlicious day:D

Whoops! .... forgot to post yesterday, but I tried making sunburgers in my new dehydrator.

I used the food processor to chop up cauliflower, onion, celery, tomato, sweet potato, flax seeds, and sunflower seeds. Then I mixed together in a large bowl & added a little celtic sea salt & liquid aminos to taste.

After 12 hours in the Excalibur, I'm eating them today (I made 18). These are really good!

The other stuff I made over the last few days came out too sweet for me (dried fruits). But I really like the sunburgers & see lots of options for variations.

Day six.... then six-hundred..... then six-thousand !!!!

Oh have I've missed checking in - things have been super busy and with my computer down - its harder to get online (lol) - I am still here and still rawkin and rollin in my kitchen - i have a dehydrator on the way (I am beyond excited!) and also a saladacco or spiralizer - so my kitchen tools are coming together! Yay!!!

Just realized how much my tastes have changed and how motivated I am growing - really getting better with follow-through (this is like day 38 or something) ... there is magic in 30 days of straight raw!

Have a scrum-didily-umptious day!

Yay, day 6! I had some raw pizza's in the oven dehydrating last night, and woke up to their delicious smells. Sent one with my hubby to work, he's eating it now, should see if he like sit or not! I tasted them and they are AMAZING. I think we have a winner here! He's becoming more and more open to raw foods, as I become a little more skilled :D

Oh, and these were eggplant-pesto-tomato pizzas, no grain crust.

I actually went raw the day before Halloween... so I've been raw from the beginning of November... mostly eating fruit, spinach, cherry tomatoes, avacados, and nuts, with an occasional helping of raisins/dates/apricots... but I find these tend to upset my digestion a bit. Being a little scared of B12 deficiency I am taking a vitamin supplement.

Starting weight: 138... at 5'5" (before this I was a macrobiotic eater) size 8 jeans

I must say in the first two days of going raw my emotions/mental clarity saw the most amazing improvements! I have OCD, and Anxiety/Depression (part of Bi-polar disorder), and these are starting to fade away dramatically already! I feel a little closer to the core that is me... pretty cool!

Hey guys. It's day six and it doesn't look like people have been posting since the 2nd. I'm really proud of myself because I didn't eat pizza when there were about 30 people around me eating it. And I just did what I had to do, walked away until they were done. I've been having some serious headaches. So bad I can't stand up. So I did take something for them. I can only take some much of that. And I know eventually will have to let it all out. But I guess I'm just not quite ready for that yet.

Good Afternoon All! I woke up feeling yukky and didn't make my green smoothie--been missing it all morning. I didn't realize how filling they are! So I had fruit and a slice of cinnamon bread. I've had a couple of donut holes as well. I have a big salad for lunch and my Passionberry Bliss Synergy drink. It's getting easier and easier to throw something delish together. Hope you are all having a great day and staying on track.

Goal for Nov: Stay Raw and Keep Moving!

Well I'm not so good at remembering to post - but I'm still 100% raw! I made Alissa's mock salmon paté and we've been eating that wrapped in collard leaves with sprouts - very good! Lately I've been really filled up by the green smoothies and not hungry at all, but I start wandering around poking in the cupboards and fridge because it's weird not to be eating all the time. So I make stuff even though I'm not hungry and just leave it around.
Today I brought 2 green smoothies and a left over nori roll I made last night. Smallest amount of food I've brought to work yet, but I think I'm finally figuring out what I'll actually eat in a day, instead of bringing the whole fridge.
Oh - the nori roll - I put cauliflower and pine nuts in the food processor to make the rice. I'm not too hip on the flavor - any other ideas besides cauliflower? Maybe just a nut paté? But the raw seaweed gets so soggy - how to avoid that?? Everybody liked the marinated shitake mushrooms (nama shoyu, olive oil and ginger) and they tasted great with avacado.
Went to Cafe Gratitude in SF this weekend - it was awesome! My daughter (age 4) at a huge bag of lentil sprouts on the drive up, and then just wanted ice cream when we got there. They had one made of almonds and coconut flavored with real vanilla - it was soooooooo good. Daughter has requested we get an ice cream maker. Un-raw brother declared it the best ice cream he ever had. The rest of the food was quite tasty too. Glad I finally made it there! It's really nice to share this way of eating with family without worrying that my recipe won't turn out so well (often the case these days).

Hey.
Gypsy: I like my nori rolls with spinach lining the nori, and then nut pate (ani phyo has one ...I think it's called ginger almond pate...her site is her name, hint, hint) BUT anyway, I line mine with spinach, and then the nut pate and veggies...YUMMY...I think I'll have this for dinner...thanks for the idea.

I would sure like some of these recipes for some of the stuff I've noticed ya'll eating. It would give me some ideas as to something that might be really good to try. If you make it yourself, post the recipe if you don't mind, or if it's someone else's recipe, just tell us who it is, I may have the book here, and just not tried the recipe!!! PLEASE, PLEASE, WITH A FRESH CHERRY ON TOP!!!

Thanks everyone.

So far today, I've only eaten a banana and some walnuts drizzled with evoo and a heavy sprinkling of nutr. yeast.

Take care,

Hello everyone.

Hope you are having a wonderful day.

Made pizza lastnight and today I have onion bread in the D. Made a new kind of onion bread....added shredded zucchini, shredded carrot, only 1 thinly sliced onion and used half ground flax and half ground pumpkin seeds. The batter tasted pretty good....still waiting for the end product.

DH is out of town until Friday....I'm gotta get my creative juices running this week for Thanksgiving.

Hi Everyone,
I am late getting here today, but better late than not at all:p .

It has been very busy today and I have been eating on the run.

I took my green smoothie with me to work for breakfast this morning.

Lunch was a raw veggie tray with homemade hummus.

Dinner is going to be a portebella, tomato and romaine on a sprouted bun. And some leftover raw tomato/basil soup.

Hope everyone has been having a great day:) {{HUGS}} to all! Lynn

Anyway, I'm gonna skip dinner today and just have some Green Juice. I'm not hungry, so I'm not gonna eat when I'm not.

Mona, you'll love Alissa's book. I'm jealous that I don't have this new treasure just arriving!! I have several books and the one I just WAY most is Alissa's.

Another great raw day.

Breakfast: Watermelon

Lunch: Big salad (maybe too big!!)

Snacks: Green smoothie

Dinner: Haven't gone home yet ... it will be a surprise, but most definitely raw.

My challenge this week is walking to and from work. With daylight savings time going away, I'm waking up more easily in the morning, but walking home in the dark and cold (even in Sunny California) at 6 p.m. isn't my favorite. I'm determined to be tough this year and persist.

Thanks for the tip about spinach in the nori rolls - makes sense!
So I had my 2 green smoothies and soggy nori roll at work, then my drive home was interrupted for about 2 hours by a big rig accident and by the time I got to town I had a mean headache and there was a Jamba Juice - so I went in and told them I just wanted fresh fruit (I know nothing about how it works there), and they said I could have orange juice and a banana mixed in. So I got that, and I could feel my headache drain away as I drank it. Now I feel like having chocolate pudding for dinner, so I'm going to go look for a recipe - I think I remember reading you could make one with avocados? I have a lot of those, might as well put them to good use! Hubby seems to be doing the raw thing with me :) He's requested that there be enough chocolate avocado pudding for him as well!

Great to see you all here. Did not want to get out of bed this morning so no time to post or make a gs. Had two bananas and some nuts and dried fruit to tide me over till lunch. Made collard wraps with some frozed (defrosted) world's greatest meatloaf burgers and lots of veggies. Really enjoyed it. Have not had dinner yet as I got home and my book order was finally here. Got Rawvolution and Ani's Raw Kitchen. Oh, so happy flipping through and reading--need to stop and feed myself sometime soon.

Very busy day and so glad to still be here being raw. Now to find my kelp noodles and sauce them up with some alfredo.

BUsy day again today, plus still battling the sore throat monster, so another not hungry day like Monday.

green juice

onion bread with greens on top (bread came out too salty, or maybe I am getting more sensitive to salt?)

a few honey licks- I have been washing my face exclusivly with raw honey, and :p my face is feeling amazing! WOW you gotta try it. I like the honey that is partially crystalized, so you get a scrub and the honey at the same time.

Way to tired to go to the gym this morning. Had my daily lemon water upon rising then had a piece of cornbread, a lemon cookie and a handful of blueberries.

I started reading Green For Life by VB today and I am soooooooooo excited. I've been wanting to get a Vitamix but dreading forking out the $300+ but I think I am just going to splurge and do it. Hey everyone! I'm so grateful to be raw right now!http://i45.photobucket.com/albums/f57/inovermyheadx432/icons/z52527416.jpg

I am desperate however to try something new. I don't have alot of supplies right now, but going to the grocery store tomorrow. I also desperately want to go to the larger HFS (like Earth Fare, or Whole Foods) I haven't been there in months. I've been to a really small store for emergency supplies (like 2 lb. bag of flaxseed) but they don't have alot of stuff.

OK...back to what I want, NEED....some of these great recipes ya'll are talking about eating. I want something creamy, and warm...a dehydrated soup...but something creamy. I also want some RAW COCOA/CACAO!!!! I want some fudge, but the real stuff, and I must confess, I've never bought raw cacao. I've bought organic cocoa...but that's roasted, right?? I'm not sure I can afford it....I have Alissa's raw carob, but it just doesn't taste like CHOCOLATE TO ME!!!!

HELP ME STAY RAW, PLEASE!!!
Yesterday's food:
banana w/ walnuts drizzled with evoo and nutritional yeast
lunch???? I can't remember some almonds I think
dinner: guacamole

NEED MORE GREENS....I think I'll make some collard chips, or kale chips

WHO POSTED THAT THEY ATE CHIPS THAT THEY WOULD DEFINITELY MAKE AGAIN....RECIPE PLEASE!!!

Thanks ya'll...still raw and lovin' it, I just don't want to get bored!! I need your help, and I'm not afraid to ask, for those in the challenge, you are my biggest support, and I'm your biggest fan!!!http://i172.photobucket.com/albums/w2/jazikt/Icons/cheerleader.gif

Renee, sometimes I throw some dates in the blender, but I think the easiest way is to strain my milk, rinse my blender, but the milk back in the blender and squeeze in some agave, that's my favorite!!! It just depends on your tastes...dates stay alittle too chunky for me, but you can put those in before straining, or after.....let me know how it turns out for you!!!

Hey Everybody - a week down - WAY TO GO! I hope that all the weeks pass as quickly as this one has for me, only because it was so smooth to stay raw, not a lotta struggle, and I have you all to thank for that - you keep me inspired!

I'm not sure what I'm going to eat today - had some banans with almond butter and chocolate syrup (a favorite treat of mine) ... going to make some applesauce, I think and cut some corn off the cob and have it with evoo and sea salt ... I wanna eat the kale salad that I made yesterday (its all wilted and yummy looking), but I think the garlic in it made my lips swell - seriously they are red and swollen (it looks like I had a GREAT night ;) ) - hmm oh well, I don't need to bore you with my thought process ...

Have a delectable day!

Hello Fellow Toughies! Aren't we something? No whining, just cheers! Last night I had guac w/something that was supposed to be a pizza crust but got over-dehydrated and turned into a very thick cracker! Today is the standard green smoothie for breakfast, which I am still working on. For lunch I have (of all things) tomatoes, radishes and okra and a pear for snack. Crazy, but it sounded good this morning when I was packing my lunch! Summer12 has me wanting cream of celery soup for dinner--used to be my fave SAD soup as a child--I completely forgot about that until she posted! I think I'll see what I can come up with. Hope you all have a very raw day!!

Hi Guys

I'm gonna ask for your help to stay raw too. I really need something WARM. Its freezing in the nights here in the UK and salad just ain't doing it for me.

Has anyone got a recipe for creamy soups, especially celery. I dont have a dehydrator but can warm the bowl and put in in the oven with the door open for a bit. I've got a glut of courgettes (zucchini) and parsnips too so any ideas for them would be great.

Daytimes are great raw, im feeling really good. I actually put on weight this week but i dont take much notice of the scales as my body shape has changed and i've lost inches :D I'm loving green juices and smoothies but because of long distance running i need even more greens! -

One more question, what is evoo:confused: WE dont have it here, what sort of taste and texture is it?

Thanks, take care all, Denise

Been so tired didnt manage to check in yesterday!!

Had 4 pears today

In answer to the above!!.. you can get extra virgin at tesco..or wholefood shop..or holland and barret...but any supermarket

soups are good.. I am finding it mild at the moment here..but I have lived in scotland..so..perhaps I am used to REAL cold!! lol.. spinich creamy soup is lovely, with avo or pine nuts..yum yum..or hearty pumpkin soup..or squash.. with plenty of garlic...yum!!

Have an experiment..whatever you fancy, or would have as cooked combo seems to work pretty well for raw soups

Where abouts in the UK are you rawdancer? I'm going to try the spinach soup with pine nuts, i've got loads of them too! Sounds like a yummy soup.

I've managed to be 100% today because I DIDN'T think about what I could have for dinner. I made up a lovely juicy smoothie - oranges, apples, grapes, celery and carrots juiced then put it in the blender with loads of spinach and rocket (arugala). It was gorgeous and im full to bursting now!

Just found the site yesterday, and as I stated in the sign up thread... in this short time (actually mostly the first two days), I noticed the most amazing reduction in my anxiety and OCD... they normally plague my happiness most days! Haven't lost a lot of weight, but that is most likely because I have been eating a lot of dehydrated stuff, and previous to this diet I was on the Macrobiotic diet, so I am relatively slender.

I have noticed a huge difference in my stamina and endurance... my energy levels and mood in most any activity. I dance and I have noticed I do get sore after the end of a long night... but it is gone by the next day... and while dancing I never have too little energy for any move anymore (I used to slack and get tired at times!).

Wednesdays and Sundays I train with a search and rescue team, and while out on tasks my legs normally become exhausted from hauling around all 10 lbs of Doc Martins on my feet... but no longer! It astounds me that a change in the type of foods I eat can have this much effect on my energy level and leave me so light and comfortable feeling!

Alright... down to the nitty-gritty, Yesterday I had:

3 apples
3 bananas
2 oz. walnuts
1 oz. pecans
1/2 avacado & baby spinach in a salad
raw mustard dressing on another spinach salad

Today so far:
1 Grapefruit
1 oz. walnuts
1 apple

(this was my breakfast... and I have yet to be hungry yet?!? Craziness!)

So happy to find this board

One question though... I never knew you could find raw cacao... I thought that is why everyone used carob... where do you find it (and does it have a lot of caffeine? I'm trying to phase that out!)

Like I said above... I have not lost any weight... but my shape is changing too! For the better! My waist is more defined, arms and legs are getting more slender, and the musculature of my behind is a bit more perky! All over I starting to look a little more fit (I am surprised I did not before, despite the last "healthy" diet and all the exercise I get dancing and training with Search and Rescue!)

Maybe you gained weight and I have not lost due to replacing fat with muscle now we are feeding our bodies the proper fuel?

Hey all,

Shine: Yes, I agree, I have to "splurge"....which really isn't a splurge. If I buy my family a SAD treat, it's not a splurge, is it? It's a treat, it just so happens that most of my treats cost alittle more....but I still have to LIVE right!!!

The energy here is amazing!!

Take care!!

I can't believe today it day 7. It just goes to show you that when you really want to do something it's not hard anymore. I've gotten really commited to this and now it just seems so easy. On Monday my friend came over who's interested in raw food. We made food together and she loved it. It's nice to have people that want to eat my food! Though I have been drinking hot tea, I live in Minnesota and it just helps keep me warm.

I can't believe it's been a week! I'm feeling good. I stepped on the scale yesterday morning and was already down 5 lb! I'm feeling good, sinuses have mostly cleared up. Today for breakfast I made my green smoothie and my two children joined me - YIPPEE! Strawberries and a banana for lunch with some pecans and a big salad for dinner with guacamole. I'm going to try the marinated collard greens this weekend, this is the recipe I found on line ... if anyone has a better one let me know:

MARINATED COLLARD RIBBONS

1 bunch collard greens
SIMPLE MARINADE:
1-1 1/2 tbsp. olive oil and flaxseed oil mixed
1/2-1 lemon or lime, juiced
1 tbsp. Nama Shoyu or a sprinkle of Celtic sea salt
1) Wash the collard greens and cut out the stems or ribs which go almost all the way down the middle of the leaf (save for juicing).
2) Lay the collard leaves one on top of the other and then fold in half and roll the whole bunch into a tight roll. Starting at one end of the roll, cut into very thin slivers. Put the resulting ribbons into a large bowl. Add the marinade and toss until all the ribbons are well coated. Cover the greens and let marinate in the refrigerator overnight.
Serves 2. Keeps for 2-3 days in the refrigerator.

First day I haven't had a green smoothie. I've had 4 sprouted almonds (peeled by my daughter), 2 clementines, a julienned zucchini with nut pate and olive oil. I wonder if I will go into shock or something without the regular 4 cups of spinach?
Off to the Mid-week farmer's market soon - the date stand better be there! DH is eating them all up before I get to use them!

Hi all Ive had a bad day today only about 50% raw I am gutted & angry with myself:mad:

Detox was still crappy this morning, like smokers cough from hell & I dont smoke:eek:
I had raw chocolate milky way bars i made myself last night & it definitely made me hyper & seems to have triggered over eating & alot of negative self talk. I had a negative me yapping in my ear about how the nuts etc that i buy probably arent raw anyway so I was kidding myself about being 100% raw...etc etc. I was managing to ignore it pretty good but then when someone I thought of as a good friend got all angry & confrontational with me about being such a pain to cater for i caved in...how i wish i wasnt such a people pleaser...its my low self esteem working overtime.

But the day has ended well...my raw fairy godmother had my jack Lalanne blender arrive tonight just in the nick of time:D so i hopped right back on board with a green smoothie.

A huge big congrats to everyone doing the first week raw...Im planning on being amongst you this time next week...;)

Hi All,

I'm joining in on the challenge a bit late, but I am oh so commited to staying raw for a month. I've been yoyo-ing back and forth between raw and crap foods for a year.

Today has been awesome, green smoothie for breakfast, fruit and nuts as snacks. Tomato, and cucumber salad, plus lots of chopped up veggies with raw almond butter for dinner.
I just finished some banana slices with a dollop of raw chocolate sauce on each. Yum!

Today I've had:

Banana-Split Choc. Shake
LOTS of homemade seasoned almonds

Wendi - See?! It's okay to splurge!;)

Shine - Hazelnut truffles?!? Can you post the recipe?????

For cream soups - blend together your favorite veges, garlic and ginger if you like it and add in some almond soup to make it creamy - simple and delicious ;)

I too have, at times, been having a rough time with wanting to choose some old SAD food as a comfort behavior - but did not do it. I really DO realize the stress will not go away. I have to rationalize with myself alot - I am surprised this is still happening even though I have been high raw (since July) and 100% raw (since September). It really frustrates me that I am still being tempted to revert back when stressed (I guess I have to realize I have been SAD alot longer and trust in the process. I am NOT one of those who have gotten rid of the cravings easily and right away like some have. ) I really DO realize that raw is best and even after choosing SAD it gets even SADDER because nothing changes, nothing improves at all with SAD food! I just wanted to post this for those who are also having trouble/difficult times. Hang in there. I can tell you that ALOT of my fibro pain has eased up a bit with the raw food and my energy dips are not as bad as they have been since 100% raw. Thank God.

I hope you all have a wonderful night

Wow, today was such an enlightening day ... when i ate cooked I LOVED pasta - I thought it was the wheat and the doughiness of the noodles ... but today a little treat arrived - the spiralizer (saladacco) that I ordered from Alissa's site ... and let me tell you it was incredible ... I learned the power of texture!

I had 2 zuccinnis made into angel hair with olive oil, garlic salt pinenuts and tomatoes - it was yummo!!! I could have eaten another 2 zuccini's worth - its not the flavor of food alone to which I respond, it is the texture as well - and I would venture to guess that for me texture may actually be in the fore front of importance ... Horray for epiphanies and for "pasta" treats once again!!! Have a great night and a beautiful tomorrow!

This is the first time I've written since signing up for the challenge, but I did eat all raw this week! I've also been without coffee for 9 days which is great because I used to drink a lot. I'll have to try the marinated collards recipe that was posted on here. I am finally getting into green smoothies. I'm trying to have at least 1 green smoothie and 1 green juice each day. Last time I tried to go raw I wasn't getting many greens at all. I hope I can make it through the whole month! I will be so proud. The raw lifestyle definitely seems more natural to me. My issue is preparation, which I'm going to the grocery store tomorrow, so I have to make sure to prepare my recipes the first or 2nd day after I buy stuff.

Hannah: What all do you put in your kale salad? Also, what is Evoo?

I'm still 100% raw and not craving cooked foods (yet), but it's been 6 weeks. Feeling wonderful and have lost 11 pounds. Went to a gathering to promote a new kitchen and a private chef was hired. The aroma of the food was almost enough to make me cheat, but fortunately he made a raspberry salsa and I ate it in a bowl with a spoon! Today I'll be gone all day so will take fruit and trail mix along and will probably have a salad at Panara's.

Feeling good this morning. I've noticed I'm waking up MUCH earlier and without an alarm clock (could be in part due to the time change). I started my day with a 12 oz glass of carrot juice - YUM! I'll probably have my green smoothie for lunch. I agree with TVILLMOM when she asked all to share the yummy recipes they have been making. I don't have a dehydrator yet, but have the Vita Mix and Food Processor, so if anyone has any creative yummy (and spicy would be nice) recipes they have made - PLEASE SHARE :)

Hey Everybody - 8 is great!!!

Well, today I have been prepping food - I woke up and craved pink grapefruit - unfortunately there are none at home, so I will have to pick some up on my way to or from work - cool! I decided to make Alissa's applesauce with my last 2 apples - it was delish!

I also made Alissa's Marinara sauce - yummy!
I'm going to go make ravioli - I hope I like them! and also some more zuccini pasta - which i L-O-V-E! Hope yall have a great day! (hugs to you)

Also (as requested ;) ) my Kale salad recipe is as follows:

1 bunch kale (washed and torn into bite size pieces)
1/4 cup Nama Shoyu (or Bragg's)
1/2 cup Cold Pressed Sesame Oil
2 cloves garlic (or to suit your taste)

1. whisk the dressing ingredients together
2. pour over the kale pieces and massage it into the leaves - making sure they all get coated (I like to think loving and nourishing thoughts as I work them - like i'm massaging a loved one)
3. let sit for an hour or longer (if you can stand to wait overnight in the fridge is actually great) - this allows the leaves to wilt a bit and they will be dark green
4. Put into bowls and sprinkle with sesame seeds to garnish

Not been very hungry today, just picking at pieces of fruit. I'm cooking dinner for my hubby which I know im going to have a bit of, so i'll have a big green juice or salad to buffer it. I told myself on day one that if i really want something i will have a little bit of it, that way i dont feel deprived. And because i can have anything i want, i often dont want it at all! Aint it funny how the mind works.

Im just proud that i've managed more 100% raw days than ever before and thats coming from a non veggie, non vegan, rubbish food and meat eating diet. Any raw stuff is a great improvement for me and although i haven't managed the whole 8 days 100% im still proud of what i have achieved.

Crystalmoon, hope your spirits have lifted now. I'll e-mail you again later. You didn't 'fail' yesterday, you just had something different. You have to allow yourself 'different' if you really feel like it, that way when it happens (and its sure to happen less and less) it dosen't matter. You are doing really well.

Hope everyone else is ok today.

Number 8 - isn't it great !;)

Very hungry today (I get that way in cold weather). Had some crackers with my soup today and feel a bit bloated from the heavier food. I made cauliflower soup with oo and water and salt and red wine vinegar - it was terrible!!! I threw the rest out. Bummer.

Did 30 minutes on the Gazelle today.

Still feel hungry, but bloated - weird isn't it? I am just telling myself I have had enough (+ 2 pieces candy with above lunch too).

Have a wonderful raw night everyone :)

I think I have learned something very valuable during this short time with you all. I was initially exposed to a raw food diet through a group that is almost mechanical in its routine (when and what you should eat) 15 years ago. I have tried and failed more times than I can count in that time. I am now learning the true freedom and joy of eating raw, I am eating what I want instead of what someone is telling me I should eat at a certain time of day. I just totally enjoyed a large glass of apple/celery/collard green juice. I've been giving my juicer a workout today (my children were fighting over who would finish what didn't fit in my glass). I am blessed and very thankful for you all.

Hello, All~~had my green smoothie for breakfast, as usual. But tried something new today. I have never had poms (not since a kid). I threw the seeds from 3 into the VitaMix w/ juice from about 8-10 oranges (I lost count!). SWEET! I thought I'd just do juice today, but brought a corn on the cob and tomatoes, just in case! I did not post yesterday but had a great day and decided to start a one week cleansing fast. I am kicking it up a notch! I am drinking lots and lots of green lemonade and plenty of purified water. I am surprisingly not feeling any hunger pains and feel very light. I am however a tad bit tierd tonight. But that may be because I got up at 3:33 a.m. this morning . I'm still in. It's been a too busy week for me so I didn't post yesterday and today I just have a minute. Still lovin' the raw challenge. Eight days in (actually 15 days for me) and no thought of falling off. After a year of being raw, I decided to copy recipes onto cards so I don't always have to remember which book has the best ... apple pie ... or sushi "rice" ... It's been fun to go back through books and find the most dog-eared pages and assume it's one to transfer to a card. Alissa's recipes have LOTS of cards!

More tomorrow.

Morning folks

I've decided to change things around today. Tim VanOrden (www.runningraw.com ) recommended that as a long distance runner i dont have greens before my run, but the net result has been that i'm so full on fruit smoothie that i dont get enough greens in throughout the day.

So from today i'm going to start the day with a big green smoothie, eat a green based salad for my main meal when i get hungry in the daytime and have fruit or fruit smoothie in the evenings.

Hopefully that will do the trick and i'll still be full of carbs in the morning if i run before eating.

Hopefully that will do it for me.

Have a great RAW day folks

Hey all! Survived yesterday. DH's Aunt passed away suddenly in a car wreck this past weekend. We attended her funeral yesterday. (DH was a pall bearer, which just makes him an emotional wreck!) Her family is really suffering, because her death was so sudden. Her son was in the car with her and suffers from both legs being broken in several places, ruptured spleen, and messed up intestines....still in the hospital. He's about 14 years old.

Anyway. Yesterday was a banana day. They were quick and easy to grab, as we were in and out of the house all day. I also grabbed a small container of leftover dehydrated almonds, and some flax crackers to snack on, on the way to DH's grandmothers house (where the family was meeting to eat SAD foods) and DH HELPED ME EAT ALL MY FLAX CRACKERS!!! I was smiling the whole time!!! I am so happy that he will eat certain things, you know flax is so good for you. I am happy he will admit to liking certain things....he is such a meat and potatoes guy.....

Today's plan is a SAVORY SMOOTHIE, I've been craving, but didn't have time yesterday.

I can't wait to try the kale chips. Am I right in thinking that the sesame oil adds just the right flavor??? I can almost taste them now!!!

I'm off, sorry to ramble. Looking for some recipes...like the sweet potato...um, was is souffle?? I'll check yesterday's post again!!!

No breakfast today just lemon water.

For lunch I made some fajitas. Last night I marinaded pieces of portabello mushrooms in olive oil, nama shoyu, cumin and garlic powder (totally smelt fresh off the grill!) tvillemom,
So sorry about your husband's Aunt and her son. My thoughts are with you.

Have been starting my day with a chocolate milk drink--water, banana, cocoa, agave, brazil nut, sprinkle cinnamon, dash of vanilla and a t of maca. Must just want something sweet.

Missed yesterday--crazy busy but raw. Made the taco meat for supper and brought for lunch today. Need to make my alfredo pretty soon--still have the craving. Need to dig up ideas for two green zebra tomatoes as I'm not sure I want to make the lasagna with them, now. May just have to so they get used.
Feeling good--back is thankfully still not hurting--what a blessing.

Hope everyone has a great raw day.

Hey everyone!
Missed yesterday... I ate a lot of fruit and a collard green smoothie at work, as well as some crackers I bought from La Vie with nut pate I made. When I got home, my darlin husband had made collard wraps, they were beautiful! I wasn't very hungry but I ate one with nama shoyu and ginger dipping sauce.

Today, it is still morning here, so I haven't eaten much. Lemon water, kombucha with fresh pomegranate juice, 3 clementines and I just ate two spoonfuls of pecan butter & honey. I'm very sleepy, not sure why. I just want to curl up and go to sleep. I'm 3 weeks raw - is this still detoxing? I slept from 9pm til 7am, which is way more than usual for me. I felt exhausted last night, and a really bad headache. I was proud of myself for not taking tylenol. I'm still taking my allergy medicine, which is Singulair. I tried not taking it over the weekend, and it didn't go so well. Yesterday I was a couple hours late taking it, and that's when I got the headache.

Okay - I'll try to check back in later - this board is so inspiring!

Just want to share my excitement - we ordered a dehydrator the other day!
Maybe my "baking days" will return after their long hiatus. (A severe storm blew up the computer chip in our oven 2 years ago and I never recovered, even after getting it fixed a year later.)

This was dinner tonight:

Broccolisoup with papaya/limesalad on the side. Buckwheatbread with
macadamianutcheese. It was very good! What a nice thing when somebody prepares food for you, even though you use the same recipie it never tastes the same because somebody else made it.

SolongOOdnite: Your fajitas sound great. What does swiss chard taste like. I'm afraid to buy it. I could always wrap it in something else, I suppose.
Wendi

I dont think it has a very distinct taste. It is great for wrapping things cause the leaves are huge and flexible.

I'm so glad you said that, the leaves are huge and beautiful but I've always been too much of a chicken to try them, wraps will be on my menu next week. Also, I was reading about something called a "Gorilla Sandwich" on one of the other boards that sounds like something worth trying.

hey everyone, checking in as I missed yesterday. Crazy busy with work, but I have managed to stay raw, and I'm down 3lbs!

Overdid it a bit today with dried figs. We were stuck in the car running errands for most of the day, and that was all I had. Better than fast food :-)

I've got some leftover marinated greens, and a coleslaw from yesterday that I'll munch on tonight.

Hi all, just checking in. Haven't posted these last few days but I'm still raw, just crazy busy. Today I snarfed down this huge batch of kale chips. Was having a salt attack.:)

I've been eating mostly green smoothies and salads, and snacking on nuts during the day.

I haven't been around in a few days but I ordered the Vitamix, dehdryator and Spiral thing. But I am scared that I didn't get it all, because I mailed it to my relative's house since I would be out during deliver and they said that I only got a small box. Ordering 3 things is not a small box. And I paid for 2day delivery too on Wednesday. This relative lives far from me and I wanted to start blending and dehdyrating as soon as I get back home. I just cross my fingers and hope that I got EVERYTHING. I am just so eager to try my new raw "cook" books. :D I didn't want to get one thing and have to wait another week to visit them in order to pick up the rest of the stuff. I am just that excited.

tvillemom.......{{HUGS}} and prayers for you and your family and for anyone else here who is going through a difficult time.

Where have these past nine days gone? The time here is just flying!

I am on day #3 of my green lemonade fast and today I must admit that I am craving raw food:p I am not hungry.......just thinking of all of the yummy, enticing raw food I could indulge in right now.

I just found out that I am going to have a new baby granddaughter in March. This will be grandbaby #3 and the first girl. And I am pleased to say that my daughter is at least 80% raw.

I don't know if I will be around to post this weekend so if not, you all stay safe and have a wonderful weekend:)

Hey everybody - its good to be here! I had a pretty good day - wait no - I had a GREAT day, my hunger returned ... as well as my thirst response. For years I had not had a signal for hunger or thrist - I'd just get moody and tired and then eat (if i thought to eat) and then I would feel better. For the past few weeks the moodiness when hungry had disappeared - I'd just get sleepy or weak. And now, get this: I just get hungry. I'm sure the sleepiness, weakness and mood would follow, but now I actually receive the first signal - its like my internal radio tower has turned on! Yay!

I also realized I'm allergic to Nama Shoyu, not garlic ... at least there is still Bragg's :D ... also in the Kale salad - its salad, not chips - although i bet dehydrating it would be awesome - I have a dehydrator on the way, its supposed to arrive tomorrow! I may just try this out.

I am also excited to try all the smoothies yall have mentioned! I'm loving playing in the kitchen. Oh yeah! I've been having so much fun! I made Alissa's marinara yesterday and my father tasted it. He's been raving about it ever since and requested that we have it over butternut squash noodles for dinner!!! (He's really into his SAD treats - meat and pasta and he's never met a potatoe that he didn't like :p So this is a big deal!) ... also I made Alissa's rawvioli (with marinara) and my mother requested that I make it for Thanksgiving - she said she would rather eat that than turkey! I don't really make a big deal about our different food choices and they are seeing that raw can be more than fruit and salads! Wahoo!

Wendi, I'm sending loving thoughts to you and your family!

I hope you all have a great night!

Hannah: Thanks for the kale chip recipe. Do these turn out "oily"? I also made a comment in my last post about the sesame oil, if I don't have any, I'm guessing another oil will be ok??

Wendi

I hope this quote works ... any oil should be fine - I happen to prefer the sesame/shoyu flavor, I used to cook with toasted sesame oil, and it reminds me of that flavor.

Hannah

Oh yeah - i had just one other thought ...

I was under the impression (mods please correct me if I am wrong here) that the 30 day challenge posts are supposed to only discuss raw consumption - rather than mentioning SAD slip-ups. I know they happen to many while on the raw food journey - but i thought that the purpose here is to come together on the 30 day challenge to focus only on the raw foods we consume, rather than the slip-ups or pit-falls we may encounter ... I dunno, just seems like focusing on the raw rather than the slip may keep everyone (even the slippee) moving into excitement and empowerment ...

I hope I'm not offending anyone by posting this, I just think we should follow the 30 day posting guidelines. :o

So far this morning I've had a nice juicy pear! I am going to have some herbal tea, and cook breakfast for my SAD family, and get out for a great workout!
I want to make some great treats.....dehy. nori snacks, cashew milk ice cream, butternut squash pie, and use some butternut squash to spiral some noodles.....you get the picture??? I think I'll look for an alfredo sauce in Alissa's book to put on the butternut squash noodles...oh yeah...and this is BIG YOU GUYS...
DH REQUESTED that I make some more zuchini chips with the nutritional yeast on them, and he only eats SAD....well, I guess I should say, he THINKS he only eats sad.

Peace to you all.

It's always right after work... that I'm starving and for some reason I've been craving a certain food from the sea I cannot mention on this board that was left over from my macrobiotic days... could I be iodine deficient?

I'm beginning to wonder if I just try for a high % raw, maybe I will feel less of an urge to go back to the cooked food... I think I get a complex, if I tell myself I cannot have it, I WANT it like all get out!

If at first you don't succeed... try, try again right?

Aside from that, to add to what I posted yesterday with my foods, I also ate:

some grapes
an apple
another avocado w/spinach in a simple salad
a kiwi

Today haven't been hungry yet... a couple kiwis will prob start off my day though.

Made the taco meat recipe and enjoyed it tucked into butter lettuce leaves topped with chopped tomatoes, cilantro and some avos trying to use up (not the greatest tasting on their own but okay in recipes). I really enjoyed this meal.

Today will take that for my lunch along with some honeycrisp apples and a small baggie of nuts in case I get hungry later.

Have been doing a new morning routine for awhile (forgot how many days, but trying to do daily until it becomes a new habit). Oil pull for 10 minutes, drink 8 oz. of water with lemon or lime juice, dry skin brush, gently flush my sinus with netty pot of warm salt water, and brush, floss and use tongue scraper. Would love to add a morning walk to the lineup--guess that may come with time. Doing these things to better care for my body and feeling truly better.

Will be making some alfredo for dinner tonigh--picked up some more of the wonderfully addicting kelp noodles. So happy they seem to soften when left in the sauce for a little while--so reminiscent of pasta noodles for me. May even try warming them in the big d.

Now off to make a gs--will be trying cucumber in it for the skin/hair/nail benefits.

Hope everyone has a great raw day!

So, a third of this month is done!

I can say so far that I have had lots of energy and my throat is a little bit better.

Are you hungry?
The only negative sideaffect that always appears when I try to go raw is that I go through days of "hunger". It is a sore feeling in the stomach that wont go away no matter how much I eat. It getīs a little better with juices and wellblended smoothies and relaxation. In fact, this "Hungerfeeling" sometimes get worse when I eat. It can change from one day to another and disappear for days and then come back.
Anyone else experiencing that?

Have a great weekend,

Mona

Hey, again!

Rasberry4, the recipe use is from this board. I think you can find it under the food/recipe section....the thread starts something like: andypdx icecream. It is really simple. I think it includes real vanilla, which I never have.....but I will use cocoa and maybe a couple drops of mint, or maybe some pecans, and maple syrup.

My stomach is churning today. Looking for somthing to settle it. I think I will make some miso soup.

Best to you all.

RASBERRY4: I pulled up some threads for you with ice cream recipes. The simplest one is: "andypdx ice cream" or something like that. Then there is a "cherry garcia" one, and lastly, Veganforlifes, "chocolate/chocolate chip ice cream". I think they all got RAVE reviews.....just pick one. I think the point is to get the milk really thick, and get the sweetness you want, then add anything to it you want.

Hope you enjoy.

Hi Weezo I am feeling the same way you are at the moment...not craving same stuff but definitely having the struggle with myself cos im telling myself no all the time ;)

Ive only managed about 75% Raw today...maybe I should leave the November challenge? Or is it ok to stay & just keep striving for that elusive 100% 7 days in a row that I dont seem to be able to do right now? (seems mad I keep caving in cos Ive managed 2 weeks in a row several times before no problem).

last night my detox was awful...I was so sick to my stomach for a couple of hours & the pain was terrible (about 4 hours after dinner). I didnt digest any of my dinner of raw salad including spinach & kale...maybe the greens were too much for my digestive system? I dont know what went on but I was mega ill :(

Im making alot of raw dehydrator goodies tonight...banana leather for Alissa's crepes, also experimenting with kiwi fruit leather. Ive made almond cookies & also small bitesize apricot/sultana/sesame seed squares.

I definitely do better at being 100% raw when I follow Alissa's recipes.
Tomorrow Im thinking of trying her beanless falafels & maybe making a mango spicey sauce for them :)

I've been really tired (really really tired) the last few days. Today we had a huge rainstorm looming all day, and I never do well with heavy pressure like that. So on top of the tiredness I had a headache. It went away when it finally started raining around 5pm.

During the day I had: several large glasses of lime water, about 8 oz of ginger-lime-raw honey drink (powerful!) which I had to try to warm myself up, 1 date, 1 clementine and 1/4 avocado with Bragg's. I really didn't want to eat anything.

Then we all went out to go to the healthfood store to purchase more raw cacao as my DH is eating copious amounts of it, and we ended up getting an early dinner. I had raw fajitas and we shared a lavender-blueberry raw "cheese"cake.

I just saw the picture of Alissa in her jacuzzi with the coconut... looks mighty nice right about now! I'm going through the raw recipe books to find things to make in the dehydrator when it arrives. DH is excited for Kale chips. I'm just excited not to buy packaged raw goods! And I'm really psyched that I'll be able to make crackers and cookies for my kiddo that are raw.

What a day--made it to the farmer's market before work and scored big time. Found some Fuerte avos--my absolute fav. They are hard as a rock, but I can/will be patient. Dancing with glee--haha so happy to have found good avos dance.

Also got some wonderful organic beets for 1.50 and cucumbers for .50 each. The lady right before me did not want the tops on her beets (3 big bunches) as she was on a scooter--so I offered to take them and pay her. She refused payment and I have about 2-3 lbs. of the freshest beet greens around. Tonight's dinner is not going to be alfredo--it's gonna be the world's best gs with these awsome greens. Ahhh! the raw life is soooo very good.

Today has been great!!

Breakie was herbal tea
Lunch: taco "meat" with a LARGE green salad
Dinner: more taco meat with flax seed crackers

Today, our "home team" from church was meeting. One of the moms there, who is health conscious, was telling me that she was recently diagnosed with asthma. She doesn't want to take the meds prescribed because she was still breastfeeding. I loaned her my "12 steps to raw" book....I remembered the info in that book...and she seemed excited to read it. I know she is the type of person that would be very receptive to changing her lifestyle!! I can't wait to get her feedback.

I AM GOING TO THE INDOCRINOLOGIST TOMORROW. Please remember me in your prayers. We will discuss my thyroid treatment. The nurse that called me to remind me of my appointment, told me "he may draw blood, or fluid, or it may just be a consultation". So now I'm alittle worried about what to expect. I know it will be ok....

OH yeah...DS accidentally broke my blender Sat.:( Now, I don't know how to make the ice cream (out of cashew milk) that I was going to make, not to mention my smoothies....any suggestions???? I don't know when I can buy a new one, othe than a super cheap one.

Take care.

Hi all -
no headache today, so that made me happy! But I was super tired again in the morning, stayed in bed for a while and then had to get up to take my allergy pill and had about 4 hours of fun snot to deal with. Not sick, guess it's allergies - and detox? don't know. I have little red spots on my face today too.

I didn't eat too much today either. had water and a smoothie during the day and tonight I made a sort of cashew cheese to appease my child and I spread it in lettuce leaves with grated carrot and sprouts for us. I'll probably eat some kiwis tonight. I found someone at the farmer's market this week who grows them - I was totally happy to buy local! Hope they stay in season for a while.

I've started to read "The omnivore's dilema" which somebody sent me, and I feel quite good - there is absolutely no eco-guilt eating raw and local! (Well, except that I don't have a worm bin.) A lot of our farmer's markets are starting to close now, though, and I don't know what pickings are going to be like going into the winter. I think I read someone made butternut squash noodles?? I may have to try that.

Tomorrow will mark me 4 weeks raw! Can't believe it! Hugs to everyone!

Really nice day today. Started with a huge gs, which I added a whole cucumber (working on the great skin thing). Interesting flavor--will probably need to grow on me a little. Will need to cut back on the h20 as the cuke really added to volume. Did a oniony soup for lunch and savored taco meat in butter lettuce leaves with cilantro, tomato chunks and avo--whoever came up with this recipce, thank you--this is just too tasty.

Off work tomorrow and am going to visit an old friend who I haven't seen for awhile. Will be taking along my raw food emergency backup kit (whatever raw meal I have on hand or can put together and a bag of mixed nuts and dried fruits).

Feeling great and loving the raw. See you all tomorrow.

Hope you all had a RAWtastic weekend:p !

I am ready to roll on day number 12. I have had my green smoothie and have done my workout.

Lunch is going to be a huge organic salad and dinner is going to be tomato soup and a few flax crackers. Working my way gently back into solids after fasting.

Good morning everyone! I can't believe it's already day 12!! RAW is becoming more and more, just a habit. Even when I've slipped (in previous months) it was so much easier to get back to 100% days, because my body seemed to just crave raw stuff!!

I have my Dr.'s appt. today for my thyroid (aren't ya'll sick of hearing me talk about it!!) I am alittle nervous...
BUT, my DS (12) and DD(7) surprised me this morning with my tea and a plate full of choppd fruit....like Mother's Day....breakfast in bed! What a great way to start my day. I am nervous about this appointment, more than I want to admit.

OK...I gotta get going. Not sure what my meals will be today, except I know they will be raw!

It amazes me how fast time flies by. Were already at day 12 and Thanksgiving is next week, HOLY COW.

Still too tired to go to the gym this morning before work. Ill try again tomrw morning. I cant wait until that "needing less sleep" feature kicks in, I am still always tired.

Anyway, made a blender full of green smoothie for breakfast and lunch. Also brought an apple but I am not hungry yet. Just had my morning lemon water at 6.

Happy Day number 12 !!

Wendi - good luck!!

I made a chocolate cheesecake yesterday with cashews - it was 'ok', but for me, making cheesecake out of nuts tastes like nuts (and lemon juice) and not at all like 'cheesecake'. Oh well.... I do like nuts with dates though a lot better.

Anyway...off to work now. Busy day planned. Already took car in to get worked on (gotta love that, not!). Son is in a play today. Other son has allergy shots. Then homework. It never ends...

Have a great day, living it raw :)

Good Morning!

Started off the day with apple/collard/celery juice. Will probably have either marinated collard greens (I'm hooked) or a GS for lunch ...

I have a question for you all. I'm looking for smoothie combos that keep well refrigerated until lunch, and taste really good. These are for my hubby who will eat raw IF it tastes "good" and "doesn't look to disgusting" - LOL! I might hit the kitchen and do some experimenting.

Have a great raw day!

Will be starting my gs in a couple minutes, which should hold me till lunch. Have the day off work so will get caught up on things around the house. Lunch will be polishing off the taco meat (just love this stuff). Dinner, not sure yet but would like to make a fancier recipe if I have time. If not, soup is sounding pretty good.

Need to find a recipe that incorporates cucumbers as I bought so many at the farmer's market for adding to my smoothies, but not my fav thing to add.

I need a suggestion. DS broke my blender this weekend by accident. How can I make smoothies? Is there a way. I don't think my FP will blend it enough...I guess that is my only option.

Wendi,

Sorry to hear about your blender. Have read her that many have picked up a reasonbly priced one at second hand (Goodwill or Salvation Army). Is it the glass top that broke? I have a little store that sells replacement tops, though don't know the pricing. Hope you get one back into your life soon. Smoothies are so heathfully awsome.

Good luck on your Dr.'s appt. today. You will be in my thoughts.

Thank you Lady Green Jeans! Yes, DS broke my glass...I should have thought about just replacing that part, but I figured by the time I contacted the company, paid for shipping, I could probably replace the whole blender. DH mentioned a better one, you know for Christmas, so I may get an early Christmas present out of this. We'll see.

Ya'll HOLD MY HAND WHILE I GO TO THE DR'S TODAY! I'm such a baby!:p Just nervous about what he'll say, do, and what he will be like. I hate meeting new Dr.s...you never know. And if I ask questions about nutrition, he probably will look at me like I'm crazy.....Sometimes I try to play dumb...in the beginning, but I have to do myself the service of asking about supplements, and food choices......

Peace,
Wendi

I make smoothies in my food processor because it's all I have...just be sure to chop the fruit first and use a lot of bananas. May also need a bit of water to get it blending, too, if you are making a small amount.

Hey everybody - happy day 12! I slept 11 hours last night!!! Well I certainly feel well rested, and my body must be working on something big :D I am not sure what I am going to eat today in total ... I want to start eating more green smoothies again - I was having them a lot at the beginning and kinda burned out on them, but now I feel its time to bring 'em back. So will have that, and maybe some nori rolls ... though I'm not sure of the exact make up of the diet today, it will certainly be raw!

Keep rawkin' everyone, sounds like you're doing great!

and Miss Wendi, I'll be thinking of you today, sending you some lovin' vibes, so that maybe the doctors office won't feel SO scary ... I hope it goes well! Also I should tell you that when I make green smoothies I make them in the food processor because the blender I use isn't mine and is rather old and I fear burning out the motor on someone else's equipment. So it can work at least until you get a replacement - HTH!

I've been sleeping extra since going raw, too...wondering what's up with that!

But I made a giant green smoothie, which is in my fridge now. I plan to drink some of it bit by bit until it's gone....then make a new one.

hi all, heres to a great day 12.

I couldn't wake up again today, didn't get out of bed till gone 9am and that was a struggle. Forced myself to go for a little run then did nothing for hours, till about 3pm!

I really didn't feel like eating much so i've picked on a few grapes, dates and a banana. I'm going to attempt to make one of alissas recipes from weeek 1 in the challenge as i havn't done any yet!

hope i have more energy tomorrow, thats one of the reasons i started on raw!

Hope all was well for you at the Dr's wendi.

I know we're only half way through the 30 day raw challenge, but I'm 4 weeks raw today!! Totally, 100%!!!
:D :D :D
And of course, today, I really want to drink a coffee. I'm soooooooo sleepy. Been sleepy for days. And today I'm in the office, and the heat got cranked up for some reason... what do I do?? I can hardly keep my eyes open.
This morning I've had:
lemon water
a cup of green smoothie (I have more in the fridge for later)
3 tangerines
(I'm on Pacific coast time, btw, it's still morning here)

I'm not hungry. I can stop at the store in a bit and get something if there are any raw suggestions to this sleepiness. Maybe just a nap in the car?? I always end up with marks on my face when I do that :o

Good Luck at the Dr's today Tvillemom - I've been pleasantly surprised by my dd's ped several times. He even put her on a Vegan, peanut and wheat free diet once and has recommended colloidal silver. And he didn't "seem the type."

Hi all,
Finally started raw today. Letting life get in the way these past days and procrastinating. Went to the local Whole Foods and stocked up on fruits and veggies. This morning I had a collard/kale/banana/blueberry smoothie made on my old Hamilton Beach 10 speed blender. I decided to just use this blender until I kill it. For lunch I had a banana, strawberries and grapes and I'm making a large salad romaine, green leaf, spinach, tomatoes, pumpkin seed with some olive oil.
I'm going to fight for my health and keep getting up if I tumble. I have about 150 lbs to lose and at 40 it's just a matter of time before the health problems begin.

Hi all. I was just checking in.
My Dr.'s appt. went well. He took the time to talk to me. He mentioned the word "hashimoto's thyroidosis" (did I spell it right?) I may have an auto-immune disease that I don't know if raw can heal??? I am still believing in my healing...so we will wait and see. I will know tomorrow, as the Dr. took more blood today just to be on the safe side and get another T4 count. I am glad that he took that precaution. Anyway, I felt good about the visit...

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH FOR YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS!!!
