Just curious if anyone likes his recipes....and if so, which ones?

Yes. I would recommend his book. However I would MOST STRONGLY suggest purchasing Alissa's book Living on Live Food FIRST if you have not already done so.

Also there are many raw books out there now and each are different. have a think about what you want to get from your raw book purchase.

1. Gourmet or basic
2. just recipes or educational with some recipes or a combo
3. are photos important

These are good things to consider. I would put his book in the middle of gourmet and basic with mostly recpies and lots of photos.

Cheers,

Eppp

I flipped through his book a couple of weeks ago and the pictures are gorgeous--there's a picture of spaghetti marinara that just looks divine! I almost bought the book just for that picture! But since the book was $35 and I'm a poor college student, I took a picture of the picture instead  :D
I haven't tried any recipes, but after seeing the menu for Julianos online and reading the descriptions, I really want to try his food.

Hey JennaBoBenna, Just a thought, amazon has his book for $23.10. (works really well if you have amazon prime) :D

When I was in LA last week I went to his restaurant, I thought the food was great, I had the tostado grande, which was great, in fact everyone I went with enjoyed their meal.

Yes! I have his book and have made lots of his recipes. They look much more complicated than they are. He uses dozens of different spices sometimes, which makes the ingredient list look crazy. I just simplify it by using one or two spices.

Love the recipe for Real Toast!

What's not to like about him?

Also, how about checking the book out of the library first?

My friend's daughter always eats at his restaurant. Actually I think he helped her get into raw. She's an actress, model, yoga teacher and well known. rainbeaumars.com. The stars love his food too. I love the pictures in his book, and since I eat super simple I don't make his dishes but the pictures are fabulous. I am avoiding these days nuts and it's helping me get the weight off and inches down. Oh, yes avocados I do a smidge of.

Just having to work things for my body. So it's all about simple eating at the moment and no frills. However, want to make some pumpkin cookies or holiday food I can ship so I may post for that or maybe it's there already waiting for me.

The book is great - has actual photos in color that will make your mouth water. The only 'problem' I had with the book is his use of spices and ingredients I did not/do not have on hand. So I left them out and the recipes were still to live for. Another good book is Rawvolution.

Oh! Excellent! Thanks for the info :)

I wish! My library barely has any books on being vegan, let alone raw. :( And it's a brand new library too! I did find Carol Alt's book, but it's not as pretty as Juliano's

Juliano's is AMAZING. I live in SoCal so I got as often as possible (but it's SO EXPENSIVE, so it isn't as often as I'd like!) I've made a few recipes from his book and they've all been lovely.

His was the first raw book I purchased back in 2000. Have probably made a half-dozen or so of his recipes. From the ones I tried, they are really pretty good. I have to say, though as much as Juliano's recipes are off the page impressive, my diet (lifestyle) did not get transformed until I got Alissa's raw book and DVD's. Her recipes are the day in and day out, the fancy and the plain--the absolute backbone of my diet. After watching her DVDs, I just simply jumped in with preparing tons of her recipes without hesitation. What a gift and what a blessing. I can chuckle now, but at the time I purchased both, I really didn't think I could squeeze it in my then really tight budget. Can't express how sooooo very glad I did.

His Mocksarella Cheese recipe is really good and I like his House Dressing one too.

I love his recipes. I agree, they look much more complicated than they actually are. I particularly like his Flax Seed Crackers and his Living Buckwheat Crust, which I think is the best pizza base of all.

i agree his recipes appear to be very difficult when in actuality they are pretty easy when you delete some excess spices.

i read an interview with him and he came off as very pompus.
IIRC he reffered to himself as a genius.

so, i like his food, but he's a little over the top for me.

You can get it even cheaper on buy.com ($20.79)...AND if you use google check out they will take $10.00 more off of the price...AND if you spend $25.00 or more they will ship it to you FREE. I buy almost all of my raw food books from buy.com.

RAW was the first raw food un-cooking book I purchased...way back when. It really is beautiful!

When spices are used in recipes, are they RAW? Where do you purchase raw spices?
Thanks!
