i know many here probably don't use store bought salad dressing, but i'm just wondering if there are a few that do. how much does it hinder your health benefits? do all those spices slow down digestion?

IMO, ANYTHING that you consume that is not 100% all raw is going to slow down your progress. Just monitor your body after ingesting anything thats not raw and you should have your answer from the best coach on the planet -- your body.

i don't like store bought as much as the dressings i make, so i don't use 'em. but i do think they will slow you down. atleast a tiny bit.
why are you buying instead of making them? no time?

well, i'm still transitioning and trying to find things that suit my taste buds. i plan on trying some raw recipes for dressing, but i like herbs and spices so that's going to take a bit to ween off of.
thanks for all the help guys

I was wondering the same thing.. I mean, I like spices and everything but.. sometimes I don't know which ones to get, what would go nicely with what I'm eating.
Are there any dressings that you make, that I would not have to use nuts, avocado or other fats? I'm not sure what I could use after cutting those options out... but maybe someone has a suggestion.

NO WAY! Store bought salad dressing has ZERO nutrition content now why would you put something that your body can't do anything with? I know how hard it is to go out and buy ingredients just to make something in small quantity as dressing.. but goodness.. shake it up.. get some organic cold press extra virgin olive oil, some vinegar and dehydrated red chili flakes.. or better yet string some chili peppers up side down and hang to dry and then bash them into small flakes. A little kick wakes up the taste buds and it doesn't over power much... not even a salad but it makes it more interesting... add spices to your olive oil and make something SEXY :)

aren't the spices dead and not raw? i thought that was why you guys made your own salad dressing. if you're going to be throwing in spices anyway then why not the vinegar and oil they have in the regular spices. the oils aren't the same?

I make a nice vinaigrette with grapes, oj, olive oil and some apple cider vinegar all whirled up in the blender. Nice and easy :)

Hey, themindless.....I make a really simple dressing that I love (it's from Ani Phyo's book)......I don't use specific quantities, but you can use the ingredients to taste ~
*apple cider vinegar
*flax oil (use less oil than vinegar....about a 1:2 ratio)
*pinch of sea salt
*little agave
*mustard seeds
I personally use it for everything....it has a nice mellow taste to it.

Maybe some people prefer dead foods with lots of chemicals and preservatives in them ?
I think that's a little unfair
not everything in a bottle has a lot of chemicals and preservatives in them. There are many high quality products, that although yes, that are cooked, aren't stuffed full of silly human ideas and products, and have good and beneficial things in them. :) It will never give you the same life force as a raw living food, but I think it's good not to over-generalize on an entire group of foods, just because they're bottled doesn't mean they're terrible

As I understand it, the spices are dried and ground therefore still raw - they haven't been heated above 115 degrees F.
If you buy high-quality cold pressed oil rather than one that has been heat-treated, it's still raw.
