If you purchase glass storage jars and/or bottles (especially in bulk)...where do you purchase them?

Any information would be appreciated.

Thanks!

HELLO! i've been looking for some foreeever...and i found them at Walmart! (later also at superTarget)

They weren't together with the plastic storage containers though... i really had to look carefully for them. Or you could just ask someone in the store for help.. :) i use only the glass storage containers/jars from now on and love them!

I get pint and quart boxes of mason jars (I think there's a dozen in each box) at Wal-Mart. Also, get plastic gallon sealed jars (they are my image of a cookie jar) for stuff that I get lots of, like wheat berries. But yes, from Wal-Mart or some other economy-sapping superstore... I can't find them anywhere else lol.

VeganMan: thanks for the link!

Walnutty: I get mine mostly at www.thecontainerstore.com and my local health food store PCC. Not shown is also a selection of small jars in the 1-5 oz sixe for school lunches.

Also Bed Bath and Beyond and Linens N Things. Granted these are not for bulk buys.

I've gotten cheap jars at Family Dollar. They aren't the best quality though. Thinner glass in some areas and thicker in others. I got them the year my daughter and I did glass etching and made gifts for Christmas.

What I use at home for food storage is canning jars. Rather than using the rings and lids they come with, I buy plastic lids for them.

EPPP - What a beautiful pantry you have! I'm just starting to transfer everything to glass jars and now I can have a picture to look at to inspire me!

Juliebove - That's a GREAT idea! Walmart sells boxes of the mason jars for a good price but I do not like the lids. Where do you purchase the plastic ones?

Thanks everyone for your tips!

If you buy classico spaghetti sauce for your SAD eaters these are actually ATLAS Mason Jars. I use those....soak to remove the labels and voila a great jar.

An additional source for high quality glass jars with laboratory grade plastic lids is Penzeys Spices at www.penzeys.com

They have straight sided glass jars in 4 oz, 8 oz, 16 oz, & 32 oz sizes..

The 4 oz size comes in both a tall & a squat shape..

Ka-Tom Restaurant Supply has some of the best prices on restaurant quality plastic containers at www.katom.com if large plastic containers are what you need..

They also have free shipping on a lot of the smallwares items..

Bruce

P.S. I have been looking for, but have yet to find a source for, 64 oz & 128 oz glass jars with lab grade plastic lids that are the same as the ones that I have purchased from Penzeys over the years..

If anyone knows of a source for such jars, I would highly appreciate it if you would post the source here at Alissa's..

Thanks, Bruce

I get pint and quart boxes of mason jars

I use the same. Actually, some were purchased when I used to can from my garden and some were from spaghetti sauce. I've always used them to store rice/pasta/flours. I guess it was my little way of recycling.

Thanks for all of your great ideas!

Baltochef - I went to penzeys.com and got very lucky!:) They have a retail store about 20 miles from me and they have a large stock of all of the sizes of glass jars/containers. Thanks so much for the info....their prices are the best I have seen!

so sorry i haven't answered sooner! ahh it's been crazy

unfortunately i can't explain where those glass jars were. There were other containers there- like for the bathroom (for towels, dirty clothes and such). It was just a little corner with these jars (i bought 6 for 3.50 but they're not too big.. maybe half smaller than the ones on the cupboard picture) and spice mixes for making sauerkraut, pickles, etc..

i'm not too much help sorry :(

Goodwill or any of those organizations. i have found some great jars with the rubber seal on top for under $1. The big ones sell for about $1.99 Even the colored ones. I know u can buy in the stores if u can find them but they r so expensive. These have those metal clasp on them to hold them air tight closed.
I have depleted my local Goodwill and when i first started going there they had a big area set up with them. The thing is to smell inside first. When i first bought glass jars with plastic or rubber seals i thought i had a great deal. Got them at a yard sale. When i got home and checked them out i found out they were from candles and had that smell inside. I sure dont want that to get in my raw foods.

They look so great sitting on my shelf with all the Raw goodies inside. All different hights and shapes. I also found some small glass spice containers as i grow my own herbs and dry them. Old fashioned ones at a church sale. U have to keep your eyes open so u dont miss a great deal which no one else wants as they r not doing Raw. :D

Cost Plus also has a pretty decent selection of jars, especially the smaller sizes.

EPP, I'm also really inspired by your cupboards. Thanks for sharing. Mine aren't that organized right now, or I would share mine, too. Would anyone else care to share cupboard photos for our inspiration??
