Well, I have a friend who's taken it upon herself to tell me that she's deeply concerned about my diet. She's a big fan of the Weston A Price school of thought and proudly announced in her email that she and her family are eating liver regularly... YICK!

Anyway, I wanted to tell her simply that I am happy with my diet and that I am very informed about it and feel that it is the best thing for me.

DH says I need to tell her to mind her own business and I kind of agree on second thought.

What do you all think? How should I tell her to mind her own business, but in a polite way?

Nicely offer her a list of books on the raw diet written by doctors.....for one thing! I went from a diet espoused by Sally Fallon's Nourishing Traditions (inspired by Weston Price), to eating raw and feel much better without the heavy meat.

There's your first response.

There's your next response if she persists.

End of subject.

We women were raised to be such nice girls. Which sometimes makes it uncomfortable to say 'No' and 'mind your own business'. Was it "nice" for her to tell you how to live your life and project her own opinions onto you? You're not telling her that her diet is probably toxic, and I agree yuck, liver? The master cleansing organ full of Gods knows what, lol.

I would tell her to mind her own business your way, polite or otherwise. You don't have to be mean either, but being nice isn't necessary. Setting boundaries and teaching others how to treat you is. :D :

I've been there and still struggle with this myself. But the more I stay no to friends and tell them I can take care of myself and they should do the same, it gets easier.

When in a situation like that I like to think in terms of being assertive.
If your going to be a doormat then everyones going to step on you.

Then wait and see where she is in a month and where you are in a month. Bet they won't be eating liver still...........

doesn't the liver absorb toxins from the blood? So she'll be eating the toxins an animal got rid of through it's liver?

i'm sorry, that's really really gross.

I would say. "If you please, let's agree to disagree on the subject of food, for our relationship's sake, O.K.?"

I would turn the tables on her.
You should adopt her role and start to tell her nicely how concerned you are about her diet and giving her advise. Do not wait for something from her to elicit a response. You start it and let her respond.
Put her on the defensive and make her justify what she is doing. If she does respond then do not respond to her response. Just send in another attack.
If she has to stay in defence mode then she will not be able to attack and more importantly you will be reinforcing the positive in yourself instead of letting her reinforce the negitive. At the end of the day it is what you feel that is important and not what she feels.

Just tell her that you think it's great that she has found the best way of eating for herself & that you have found the best way of eating for yourself...Offer to compare notes with each other & guaranteed, with inside of two weeks, she'll be off liver ('cause how much liver can anyone eat! YUK!), and ASKING YOU about RAW!!

LIVER of all things!
