So I just spend like $300 to stock up on essential non perishables. I found some good sites for raw products, I am a bit skeptical of my nuts from bulkfoods though and if they are truly raw. Anywho here's the breakdown
http://caromacsc.tripod.com/macadamia

5lb of macadamias $17.50
1lb filberts (hazelnuts) $8.95

5lb sunflower seeds $9.75
1lb dried apricots $4.65
1lb dried figs $5.25
5lb sundried tomatoes $24.25
www.runningquailranch.com
lots of organic raisins and currents
(they have a bunch of different packages all with free shipping)
www.bulkfoods.com
5lbs natural raw almonds $25.81
5lbs brazil nuts $22.36
5lbs raw cashew pieces $20.88
1lb pine nuts $19.34
(not a good price for pine nuts really but you get free shipping if you spent $75 so whatevs)
If anyone has ordered from these people let me know how it went. Ill be sure to let you know when I get my packages!

yea I figured I would just spend all my money in one lump sum haha and not have to buy anything except produce which is cheap from samsclub and local farms.

I thought those macadamia prices were pretty good, compared to what I paid for raw cashews.

Can cashews and macadamias be used in place of one another if need be?

From my recipe book and RTF reading, which nuts you use when you uncook is a flexible subject. So I would say, yes!

Yes you can GENERALLY use these interchangably :
Cashew, macs & brazil as they are all high in fat. :)
Although recipes for thing like frosting and ice cream asking for Cashews I would stick to cashews.
Yes as KittyMommy says you can exchange all nuts in most recipes. You will get know the different charactaristics as you go along! I would say that Pine nut are not so interchangeable as thay have a very specific flavour.
I bought from that first seller a while ago, great price on macs. It took a while to ship and then I had to email to ask if it had shipped (and it hadn't). Other than that everything went smooth and I was happy with the order.
As far a macs and cashews being interchangeable, as others have stated, yes... however, be aware that macadamia nuts have a very distinctive taste. When things call for a large amount of macs I usually use 1/2 macs and 1/2 cashews just to cut down on that strong macadamia nut taste. I find cashews aren't nearly as strong but that's just my opinion. After some time you'll learn what you like and what you don't like.

Bought 5 pounds of macadamias from the caromac company back in February, still have about 1/2 pound in the freezer. They shipped pretty quickly, no problems. The rest of my nuts/butters I usually get from www.valleynut.com fast shipping, good quality. If I'm feeling a little extravagant (translates to lazy), I order some "Better Than Roasted" nuts/butters from www.sweetwatermarket.com (kinda pricey though:( ).

Thank you for the links to the bulk stores. I just ordered some supplies from Caromacsc. I couldn't pass up on the Brazil nuts, as a occasional snack. I love them! I bought a dehydrator yesterday on Ebay. Can hardly wait for it to arrive.
