Ear candling...

I did my own ear waxing a while ago.. you can get this at most heath food stores/supplement stores.......I'm not sure how great it is, but supposedly it gets a lot of wax out of your ears.. I guess I can vouch for this, because when I did it.. there was definately a lot of wax that came out of my ear. I didn't do both, because it really started to hurt.. I'm not sure what was going on, but it was painful.. so, I stopped.

You basically put a flutted pipe wax contraption in your ear, light it on fire and let it burn as it sucks most of the wax from your ears. I know it sounds absurd or unappealing...but I'm not sure.

Has anyone else done this, and what were your results?...Maybe I was just doing it wrong. It only hurt for one of my ears, not the other.. I managed to get a lot of disgusting wax out of that one, thats for sure!!!!

Never tried it but I know it is controversial. There was talk about it here last year - I think they call it ear candling - try search for old threads? I see it in the HFS and have considered it but not done it yet. Plus about the wax coming out? If there is so much wax in the candle how do you know which is your wax? It looks like a centuries old tried and true technique but have also heard of people hurting themselves.

That's called candling. I have a book on it and it says NOT to do it on yourself. It is not safe to do to yourself and you could easily light yourself on fire. I'm not even sure it's safe to do to another person. Or helpful. They say you will pull a lot of gunk out of your system by doing it, but I have a feeling the gunk is really coming from the candle.

I stopped putting those cotton things in my ears a few weeks ago and now the wax falls out of my ears by the boatload. No need to go digging it out myself anymore. ;)

We do this in my office. I would definitely not reccomend doing it on yourself, but having a partner do it for you would be safer. We place a damp towel over the clients hair so there is no chance of dropping an ash and burning them. They can be very drying to the ear canal, so it is good to add a drop or so of olive oil when you are done.

Thanks, dears.

I knew it was candling.. but couldn't edit the title of my thread.. Ear waxing.. nice one, lol...

Thanks for the replies. I don't plan on doing anymore, but was interested in knowing your experiences and thoughts on it.
