oh my. This started yesterday. My sense of smell is CRAZY. My whole family smells funky. They had some onions 2 days ago and I can SMELL it coming out of them. It was so bad that I didn't want to sleep next to dh. They have had this dish before 100s of times, but this is the first time I noticed the stench! Then dh cooked an egg this morning and the smell made me nearly gag! The stench permeated the whole house. I pulled the covers up over my nose til he left. Then I had to go to the kitchen to make the dc's breakfasts/lunches and I had to sit down so I wouldn't gag. I have to leave the house to run an errand and I'm askeerd! LOL! What if I smell something putrid? :p

I have the same problem. We had one of our cars valleted some weeks ago and I still can not use it. I do not know what they used to clean it but I can not take the smell.
Yesterday I was given my grandson's karate outfit to take to his father's house. It was just laundered and not fully dry. The chemical smell of the detergent was so strong in the car and it bothered me.

you most likely don't.
we are what we eat. we smell like what we eat. If we eat fruit and veggies, we will smell sweet. :) At least I heard that a long time ago.
But ya, my sense of smell has increased a lot. My husband thought I was insane before with my sensitive nose, now he thinks I'm nuts!

I've always been sensitive to strong smells too, but I have noticed that being raw just amplifies it. After dh & I eat something, if the dishes aren't taken away quickly, I get grossed out by the lingering aroma off the plates...and it's usually HIS plate that does the offending. Yeeeek.
My hearing, too. I don't know if being raw creates such a sense of peace and tranquility that my ears feel like they are being bombarded all the time, but it sure seems that way.
Ladypeace ~ my husband thinks I'm crazy also, lol.

This just came up for me on Tuesday.
I have always been sensitive to smells, sound & sometimes light.
The outside of my house was just painted on Monday & ALL I can smell inside is the paint - YUCK!
Tuesday I did a load of towels and after I took them out of the dryer all I could smell was burnt paint - it made me naseous. My Bf couldn't smell anything! It was soooo strong to me - unreal!
I think my senses have definitely increased since going raw!

Yup, there is that famous car bumper sticker VEGETARIANS TASTE BETTER. I think Raw folks probably reign supreme here.
My sense of smell has always been kind of high, but now it's almost unbearably high.
We rented a car recently for a short road trip and I thought I was going to pass out. It smelled like someone hosed down the interior with the cheapest perfume they could find. My boyfriend couldn't smell it at all and I had to wrap my head up in a scarf.
I'm so grateful for my boyfriend, he's the best but I smell everything he eats eminating from his pores. He gets mad at me at times when I do this...but I'll give him a piece of ginger root to chew on so I just smell the ginger or I'll ask him very gently and kindly to take a shower! This probably isn't what the 'relationship experts' would recommend and I probably sound so selfish, but I can't handle it. When he occasionally consumes my raw creations, I don't smell him. I tell him I'd do the same for him, but then again I love to soak in the tub!
I had the same experience with a rented car except it was B.O.!!!! and it didn't leave the car for the 3 days i had it. it was bad.
and i feel the same about my husband but i don't say anything. he's sensitive to that stuff....

For many years I was totally unable to smell most things. I remember once while at a pet store while they were cleaning the cages and could not smell the amonia they were using! The manager apologized for the smell and was amazed that I could not smell anything!
This past week I noticed that I can smell foods in the kitchen and the kitchen is nearly 100 feet away. Quite a difference! It has been nice to actually smell foods and other things again.

I can't imagine being in a room full of smokers and ashtrays full of old cigs. Yuck :(

My dh calls me wolf nose...
Today at the gym I was gagging because a man walked in who had a gallon of cologne on...or at least it seemed that way. (he was a whole row away from my machine!).
There are perfumes and face creams I've stopped wearing because of the chemical smell. Slowly but surely everything is getting switched over to organic. Great thread.

Hmmmm . . . The last month or so my wife (not raw) has been telling me I have a "spinach" smell. She didn't necessarily say it was bad, but in her own diplomatic way she communicated this wasn't a step up. :o

i didn't know spinach had a smell.... in fact I love it b/c it barely has a taste too! That's why it dominates my green smoothies.

Yuck! I feel for you here. At least mine was just perfume, if it was BO it would've been a painful day because I would've asked that we return the car. And that would not have contributed to a fun day.
I've left my man alone lately with the smelling thing. I put myself in his shoes and realized it's probably not a great thing to tell someone to take a shower every so often because I can smell what they ate! So I will just deal with it. He's gradually switching over to raw foods so who knows, maybe I will no longer have to smell roast beef sandwhiches, steak and cheeseburgers on him.

I'm so happy I found this thread, I thought I was losing my mind!!!
One of my coworkers came in this morning, I swear wearing half a bottle of cologne, my nose is stuffing up, and I'm getting a headache! I never had this issue before unless it was a really strong chemical or putrid odor...but wow, I think my head might explode!! I can smell everything now......
I think I need to go outside and breathe in huge gulps of smog to override the perfume.............

Yup, absolutely. I was dogsitting last weekend and when I turned on their spigot I almost fell over from the smell of chlorine in the water. Yuck. We have well water so I have not smelled that chemical in a long time.
Perfume drives me nuts too. Some people bathe in it.

to be good and working! When I finally noticed that I could actually smell things I had not been able to smell before, I was really surprised as it had been so many years! I am thoroughly enjoying being able to smell the things around me now. And, the stuffiness has almost totally gone, too. It must have been the small amount of dairy (cheese) that I ate once in a while. Whatever it was, it is no longer giving me a problem.
I wonder if I would still show extreme sensitivity to cats! I am still not giving up my cat as she has been part of the family for many years, but I tested in the highest category for allergic reactions (possible anaphalactic reaction level) when tested about three years ago. So it was either the cat and dairy or maybe just the dairy that was causing the sinus problem.
I guess I prefer that it was primarily the dairy that triggered my allergy to the cat!

INTIALLY I THOUGHT TO ASK
ARE YOU PREGNANT???
Then I thought about my own RAW and high RAW heightened senses and it's true. My sense of smell increases as does my empathic/ psych ability. So much so that it's a bit alarming.

I definitely have had my sense of smell enhanced since going raw. Usually in the past, smells didn't bother me too much since I really didn't have a good sense of smell anyway. But now, there are some things I can't handle.
1. Cigarette smoke. I actually used to smoke, and now the smell of someone smoking even many yard away makes me gag. My bf and I actually no longer go to one bar in our neighborhood since they have a smoking patio that has a huge doorway to the inside. Late at night they are not as strict about the smoking and the number of people, and the pub smells like an ashtray. I almost vomited the last time we went and refuse to go again.
2. Microwaved lunch/dinner type things like hungryman or lean cuisine. It seems everyone in the office makes those and the smell wafts through the whole building. Nothing worse than microwaved chicken or beef at noon. Ugh.
3. Body Odor. Especially when you can smell that the person with the BO ate meat not too long ago. There are a few in my office that I swear I can smell the rotting animal carcass in their gut. They smell ill to me.

I have only been raw for two weeks. One of my students started to unwrap a snickers bar and although he was over 3 ft away from me I could smell it. I literally could make out the caramel and peanuts. The whole class laughed because I couldn't actually see his hands but my nose could pick out what it was and where it was coming from. It was definitely strange!

hahaha. It's true. I feel like one. I can smell everything.
I went out to dinner with a friend. She already knew I was coming for the company and I wouldn't be eating...we don't have a raw restaurant in Sac yet. Well she ate and I sipped on my lemon water which was very good. So now I'm home responding to this thread and I realize as I'm typing I smell like what she was eating - fish and chips! LOL. It's all over me...in my hair...the food smells of the restaurant, her meal, everything. Funny, I couldn't smell them when I was in there. Wow. You don't come home with food smells on you when you eat at a raw restaurant. Lesson #9.
Bloodhound I tell you. hahaha.

This happened to me yesterday and couldn't understand what was going on. But now that I see this thread it all makes sense.
I work in a craft store on Saturdays and all day as I was up and down the aisle, I kept smelling people and it was gross. It wasn't perfume or anything, it was yukcy BO or maybe animal flesh as someone mentioned.
Good to know I'm not going crazy.
