I have never been one for breakfast - since I was a kid. So now I'm feeling like I'm in a bit of a dilemma, as I want to make smoothies and take them with me the three days I commute (about an hour) so I can drink them when my stomach is ready when I get to work. Before then, I just drink lemon-water (used to be tea -- I'm 11 days caffeine free!!).
I've always heard that you should drink fresh juice very quickly - does this apply to smoothies, too? Seems to me they are basically the same thing, except my Vitamix smoothies have the fiber, etc.
Any info and/or suggestions most welcome!
Thanks!

Hello,
Yes its always best to drink immediately.
However, they will be fine for the 1 hour commute to work. I would add ice cubes to keep them very cold.
Smoothies are not as fragile as when veggies are juiced.
I notice that lost of people of people on this board transport them even to drink for lunch lol:D :D

Depending on the freshness and temps in your fridge - 2-3 days. If you have a long commute and/or are traveling, you can also freeze them overnight before you go ~ Cathy

Since the fiber is intact, green smoothies last longer.

I make a 64oz smoothie in the morning (7am) and pour into 2 jars, and drink it throughout the day for breakfast and lunch (all done around 2pm). I've kept them in the fridge at work or just in my lunchbox with a few ice packs to keep them cold and haven't had any problems with taste. Green Smoothies are awesome!

That's what I've been doing! Although I find that they get a funny consistency and I have to really shake them up a lot so it isn't so gloppy.
Glad to hear it is okay to keep them for a bit in the fridge - and I like the idea of freezing before a trip! Very handy.

The green smoothie inventor herself says they last 3 days when kept cold. I blend mine WITH ice cubes so they start out very cold and frequently add a whole peeled lemon which tends to stop oxidation just like when you put lemon juice on cut apples & avocadoes to keep them from turning  brown. :)
