Ok, totally by accident I created a recipe that tasted just like popcorn.
:D :D :D YAY!

I was planning on attemptimg a pumpkin cheesecake...but first had to scoop out the seeds out of the small little guy.

So I rinsed the goop off of them and dumped them in a bowl with a little olive oil, sea salt, cayenne pepper, black pepper, garlic powder and a tiny bit of crushed oregano & placed them on the mesh dehydrator rack at 115 for about 24hrs. (we live in FL so adjust accordingly for humidity).

Anyway, a huge hit! Totally delish and leave a taste in your mouth like popcorn! We were eating them right off the tray warm & plan to make more for our next movie night!

Still dehydrating the pumpkin meat now...haven't figured out the pumpkin cheesecake recipe yet, but I'll let you know if it comes out.;)

beppa, so the pumpkin seeds were not clumped together or bound together? You just dried them with the spices?
Did you soak them first? I know that soaking gives that lightness feeling to seeds.

Edited to add, soaking wouldn't be necessary since these were fresh seeds, so forget the last question. :)

Best,

How were the shells, Bep? My mom used to toast the shells, and they were pretty rough going--didn't taste good and were tough. Are they easier to chew when they're dehydrated?

lol beppa, I saw WOOT and knew it was you before I even saw your name on the post.

I have been wanting to do something with pumpkin but I don't have anything powerful enough to puree the meat to a really smooth consistency. I do have a dehydrator so I thing I will try this seed recipe. Thanks!

Ooh fantastic - my mum just made a huge batch of pumpkin soup and I was keeping the seeds to give to my hamster - I'll be having them!

Hi Kitty,
The pumkin was a little one and the seeds were quite small. I don't know if that made a difference or not. But we dehydrated them and they got nice and crunchy, almost popped when you bit into them. We just washed them to get the goop off and then seasoned & dehydrated...no shelling.

Hope that helps.:)
