Yum! I had a feeling it would be good, but it was so delicious!

2 1/12 large bananas
1 pomegranate seeded
1 large collard leaf

I wish I had a high-powered blender that would break up the seeds completely, but it is still delicious!

So you just threw the pomegranate seeds into the blender? I have a high speed bender and would love to try a pomegranate smoothie. I figured the seeds would ruin it though.

So you use the seeds only? Do you also squeeze the juice out of the pomegrante?

Yes I just removed the pomegranate seeds from the shell and threw them in. The white seeds are edible and easy to chew so I don't see any reason it would ruin your blender. It didn't bother mine. It was a beautiful dark pink despite the collards!

FYI: you can juice pomegranates with your normal ordinary plastic citrus juicer that you'd use for oranges etc.

Voila!! No seeds.

Add juice to other ingredients, blend, drink smoothie.

Interesting. Though, I have to admit, I don't understand the pomegranate-seed phobia that some people seem to have. I like crunching on them! A handful of pomegranate seeds on my morning fruit is so yummy. I'll have to try throwing some in a smoothie sometime.

Anyone tried throwing the whole pomegranate into a vitamix and pulverizing it seeds and all ? The pomegranate, some water, and some ice might make an interesting smoothie experiment.

Oooooh, I saw they had some nice one's at the store yesterday. I am so going to try this!!! Anyone know off hand, is it considered an acid/sub acid or sweet fruit?

I just did an experiment. First I peeled a pomegranate with a veggie peeler as the outer skin is sour. Then I put a quarter of the pomegranate into the vitamix with enough water to cover the blades. Then I put an apple and some ice in and blended well and strained. If you experiment with this what changes did you try ?

I used a vegetable peeler on the pomegranate and tried to remove as much white stuff as possible (is there an easy way?) and put it in the blender with some water - about 1.5 inches.

Blended it all up and strained the pulp out - it is terrible - can't even add anything to it to make it palatable. :(

I'm going to the farmer's market in a little bit and they sell fresh squeezed juice, so I'll pick up a bit. and maybe another pomegranate to try on my glass citrus juicer as mentioned in another post.

There was a diagram in the store I went to that said how to get the seeds:

cut off the top and bottom, quarter it, then work the seeds out with your hands in a big bowl of water. The big bowl of water prevents red splashes everywhere and as long as you are not squeezing the hell out of it you won't lose much juice. The coolest part is the seeds go to the bottom and the white stuff floats, so you just skim it off, drain and eat or blend.
