My boyfriend just inherited a home in the Isle of Lewis, Scotland. We are going over sometime in the next 6 months, However does anyone know any places to buy Raw food there, or Supermarkets that have like dried fruit, raw nuts and seeds, I know absolutly nothing about the place. Help please. Thank you.

I've not been to Lewis, but I've been to Skye which is next door.
(By the way, I'm extremely jealous! I adore NW Scotland.)
It depends on what town you'll be in, but I'm sure there is a Tesco, Morrisons, or Sainsburys somewhere on the island, and those will all have decent produce and nuts and such. Scotland isn't so backwards- I had a fabulous vegan trip throughout when I was 17. There are many small towns with health food shops. They won't always be listed in fx happycow, but I found one in Tarbert (Skye) and Pitlochry... it just takes some research. Otherwise, there are SEVERAL online raw companies to deliver and many farmers have box schemes for produce. While there may not be as much ready-made raw convenience food, you certainly shouldn't starve!!!

It gets cold there in the winter so if you can decide when to go then try to make it a warmer time.

oohhh -- sorry - I guess that didn't answer your question. I look at it this way... our lifestyle - our raw foods are the easiest things to get ahold of really..... EVERY COUNTRY HAS RAW VEGGIES AND FRUIT... EVERY SINGLE ONE.... so there will ALWAYS be somthing we can eat.... even if it's salad everyday -- we won't starve! ;)
I'm soo excited for you! how positively lovely!!

Just keep in mind everything in Britian is smaller than in the US, so dont look for the big chain health foods stores.
The markets Lukychrm42 mentioned plus Waitrose may be up there just look online. I know that in England there is Costco so you may want to check if there is a location more up north. And there generally is a small healthfood shop in most towns again just on a smaller scale.
When I go visiting I actually take bulk bags of nuts with me!
BTW I am GREEN with envey I will be paradise up there. . .

We are awash with Tesco, asda (walmart), morrisons and Sainsburys. I contacted a site about info on the Isle of Lewis but have had no reply. If your boyfriend decides to live there and not to sell up or rent it out, you can buy your nuts and seeds online from www.redmoor.net I buy mine from there. If you buy £30 worth you get free delivery. Once a month I place my order and they deliver it. It is a warehouse in the south west of England in a place called Launceston, in Cornwall. If I get a reply from the site about Lewis, I will post it for you.

The land of William Wallace. Braveheart is the greatest movie EVER!!!
Yeah I know . . . somebody went and let men post on this board!  ;)
Anyhooo . . . The rural Scottish countryside has got to have the equivalent of "The roadside stand". Try looking up that (and variations thereof) on the Scotternet.

everyone i spoke to in scotland HATED the movie braveheart. its not true to the story at all. lol.
I wonder if you are in Scotland now. They have two supermarkets there. One of them is the Co-op and they have just made it bigger. Hope this helps.
