The first day I was on here (Wed) I read all about the fabulous chili recipe. Well it inspired me and I proceeded to make it yesterday. Along with Alissa's recipe for onion dip. I spread the dip on my flax crackers and ate it along with the chili.... well OMG!! I loved it as you all did. I took a spoonful and tried to get my dh to try it. He was in the kitchen and kept walking away from me. I kept after him and it got so funny cuz I ended up literally chasing him around island in the kitchen trying to get him to try it, insisting he'd love it!! roflmao! well he stopped dead in his tracks and said ok I'll try it when you eat my dinner too......chicken burgers on whole wheat buns slathered in mayo....ewww POINT TAKEN HONEY!! lol
anyway just wanted to say thanks for encouraging postings about such a good recipe. It's now my fav recipe.
I agree... It's probably my favorite recipe. I try to get my husband to try my foods but he "claims" they all taste the same. I had him try the onion dip and corn tortillas... oh well.

I LOVE the chili too. Freebird mentioned using buckwheat sprouts instead of barley and I can't wait to see how that changes the recipe. I LOVES them buckwheat sprouts! ;)

Barley?? hmmm wasn't any barley in the recipe I made. Now I can't find where I originally read about the recipe. I read so much in the past few days that my mind is boggled. But I know that I did just cut and paste when I read the recipe. Doesn't matter......love it the way it tastes. I added some mushrooms to it. I was afraid of all that chili powder and cayenne so only use a bit.......did a taste test and added more. Then tasted it after I spread it out on the trays and thought needs more, so sprinkled some more cayenne pepper on top straight from the bottle. ROFLMAO!! don't sprinkle from the bottle without measuring first! wowser......lets just say it's had a bit of a bite to it. I remember reading from someone that it got hotter after sitting overnight. I'm afraid now, really afraid.......of how much of a hottie my chili has become just sitting around!! hehehe

With regards to the onion dip......I didn't have macadamia nuts so used cashews instead. I also didn't read the recipe right and added the onions into the fp and whipped the daylites out of it. Then read that I was suppose to add the onion afterwards and hand mix into the whipped nuts. Since the food police didn't jump out and arrest me for doing it wrong I guess I'm ok........tasted good anyway! will do it the other way next time and see which way tastes best.

Yeah that's the chili recipe but nowhere does it say barley. Guess to each his own about what they add to it. I added mushrooms.
Docsharp: what is raw ranch??

The one with Barley is a different recipe (I actually like it better than the one posted above) it's in Alissa's book. It's one of my all time favorite, if not my all time favorite recipes. If you have her book I DEFINITELY recommend it.

I have her book so will definitely try it for my next chili dinner. I'm chilied out right now. Makes so much for 1 person......been eating it for 3 days now and still some left. Gotta love my dd.......she always tastes everything I make raw. Some of it she really likes. I gave her a taste of the chili and she was like "wow momma!! that's way too spicy." And I didn't even put in 1/2 of the amount the recipe called for but after 3 days it's way hotter than the first night. Wonder why it gets hotter the longer it sits??

Oh I got the recipe out of a raw book I can't remember the name I'll have to go and get the book and let you know it's pretty good.
Hey Guys, I made the chili again tonight and it was really nasty. I can't understand what I did wrong. I'll have to try again.
