Probably one of the most common ailments of those who are aging is arthritis.
No doubt the raw way of eating helps any ailment. But what foods or actions do you believe is the major cause contributing to arthritis. As a result of the minor knee surgery I had 6 weeks ago, my doctor has now told me that he saw a bit of arthritis during the surgery and thinks the minor complications I am experiencing is due to that minor arthritis. So I am searching . . .
Never had any idea I had any arthritis so now I am curious and anxious to hopefully stop it in its tracks.

Jay Kordich in his book "The Juiceman's Power of Juicing" on page 232 recommends pineapple to relieve arthritis. I like to put pineapple into some of my smoothies like the pineapple / orange smoothie, its one of my favorites.

Exercise is a big help. I ahd an ortho pod tell me I was arthritic and prescribed ibuprofen, etc. I didn't like that, so got into more exercise, yoga, etc., and I'm arthritis free. Also, glucasamine helps. It's a natural product that helps with joint ailments. I swear by it.

THANKS FOR ALL THE INFO ! ! !
In researching today, one thing that really interests me is that ph balance is important in defeating arthritis. I have been interested in ph balance and now I really believe that combining RAW with ph balancing is extremely important.
Exercise has to be very important also. I usually walk about 3 miles most days but for the past 6 weeks have not been able to do so. The surgeon told me today he wants me to begin walking now, so I am thrilled to get back into exercise. Exercise does a lot of things for us, and one thing is that it helps with ph balance I understand.
Keep the comments coming. THANKS!

I've read (from Jean Carter) that foods must likely to trigger arthritis are:
corn, wheat, oranges, oats, rye, coffee, grapefruit, tomato (anything nightshade). (I've left out the meat and dairy triggers for obvious reasons :) )Foods that relieve it are: vegetarian diet (yes!) and ginger.

I wonder if coffee is a trigger because if affects the acid / alkaline balance ?

Some interesting information on nightshades, particularly tomatoes ! ! !
Hey, guys, I really appreciate this input. I am 71 and have never had any hint of arthritis and I was so pleased about that. When the surgeon did this little knee procedure he saw a bit of arthritis (six weeks ago) and now there is a flareup of this bit of arthritis which concerns me. Previously I walked almost every day about 3 miles. I am anxious to get back to doing that and hopefully that will also discourage arthritis. Will begin with the treadmill probably tomorrow and work back up to getting outside to my regular walking regimen, hopefully.

I was almost diagnosed with MS due to my severe reactions to nightshade plants/foods. Since eliminating them from my diet my wrongly diagnosed Rosacea has gone, along with aching joints, inability to walk without pain, constant fatigue & IBS.
I spent hundreds of £s unnecessarily on chiropractors before having an allergy test...wish I had done the testing first!
Even if I have a foods containing small amounts of sundried tomatoes my facial skin reactes within the hour to make it look like I have raging Rosacea.
I think my intolerance has got worse as I have got older, Im 42 now & in my 20's I didnt have noticeable external reactions.

In July 2007 I became interested in RAW and ph balance. At that time I discovered that I enjoyed a salad of mainly tomatoes, avocado and onion. So at least once a day I have eated a tomato. And since that time I have noticed a rosacea rash on my cheeks. And now this arthritis thing that I never had before ! ! !
Thanks so much for all of the information.

Traditional chinese medicine teaches that it is the avocado pit and the pineapple core and nipple that are necessary to combat arthritis. Following an alkaline diet helps wonders. Apple Cider Vinegar helps to wash crystalizations out of joints that cause arthritis pain. 1 TBS to 8 oz of water twice daily is the recommended consumption.

The list of foods I listed were from a study from L. Gail Darlington. She/He(?) listed corn at 56% likely to provoke rheumatoid arthritis symptoms in the greatest percentages of patients, tomatoes, 22% (the way I listed them was in descending order). She also talks about tumeric and cloves being a good anti-inflammatory, as well as ginger.
For me, when I've made raw chili with 1 cup of dried tomatoes and lots of fresh tomatoes, I have noticed more stiffness & pain in my joints, but the occasional tomato in a salad does not have the same reaction.
Hope this info helps.

So I had a 22% chance of aggravating arthritis by eating at least one large tomate EVERY day, and sometimes two ! ! ! I almost never eat corn, but do so occasionally.
I SOOOoooooo appreciate all of your input. And I just know I will not be the only one benefit.
I thought I had done such a great job of cleaning up my diet . . . RAW and ph balance, etc., etc. And the one food I thought would be good was tomato and I am just certain that is the culprit.
I will post later, a month or so, and let all of you know what happens by eliminating tomato from my diet.

How would one eat the avocado pit? I never ate an avocado in my life until in July when I got interested in RAW. I love the avocado, but what would I do with the pit? THANKS!

How would one eat the avocado pit? Here's a link to an avocado pit smoothie:

I just made a "pit" smoothie. Here's what I did: I put enough water in my vitamix to cover the blades and started it up. I dropped the pit through the top. Then I dropped a few ice cubes through the top to keep it cool. Then I got out 2 bananas and peeled them and added them through the top. It was very tasty.
