i've been raw for 46 days now and have basically just been eating whatever i want with little regard to 'high fat' 'low fat' and all that.

i DO notice that i am all about the fats though. young coconuts, avocados, sunflower seeds occasionally. it's hard for me to get through the day without a couple avocados or a coconut in my GS. although i DO get through them, sometimes i won't have avos or coconuts for a couple days and be ok, but i find myself seriously craving them. i haven't figured out if this is a REAL craving, or a...WANT craving.

i'm mainly just eating GS. usually about 2 blender fulls a day, with some plain veggies in the middle of the day and some fruit as a snack sometimes, with sunflower seeds occasionally. if i have coconut i try not to have avocado on that same day, but i always have a couple bananas a day...if not 3:rolleyes: i keep telling myself it's better to just eat raw whatever i want than to try to limit myself and fail.

today i decided to add it all up in fitday:eek: wellll, not enough protein today (i tried the hemp protein and nearly finished the bag, but dislike it a lot, i feel it takes away from the fruit and green taste i like in my GS) and also i am missing nutrients, now i know that this is possible with SAD b/c i used to track my calories when i was a vegetarian too...

(today i had 2 blender fulls of GS with romaine, 1 1/2 coconut water and meat, 3 bananas for breakfast and dinner. for lunch i had half a cucumber and a red pepper) today i have been packing and moving stuff around all day with no time to eat and also emptying fridge for move, so not much to work with...usually i would eat some more fruit during the day)

so what i am wondering is:

1. how many of you are eating lots of calories/fat? newbies or long timers...

2. and if you are an long time raw foodist are you still eating that way? did you transition out of it?

3. how many of you long time raw foodists do supplements?

4. where should i get more protein? (i eat a lot of greens everyday like kale, spinach, collards, red leaf, and regular romaine, all day and i prefer seeds over nuts)

5. and for those that are able to limit their healthy fats/large calories what are you eating and how do you manage to do it?!?

(sorry for the lengthy post.)

1. how many of you are eating lots of calories/fat? newbies or long timers... I eat around 1500 or less calories per day. I usually have 1-2 servings of nuts, or 1/3 avocado, or a young coconut. I like fat. lol

2. and if you are an long time raw foodist are you still eating that way? did you transition out of it? I've been raw for a year, but I've been eating more than I did when I started...but that's a long story. I was eating far too little when I started.

3. how many of you long time raw foodists do supplements? I take b12 once or twice a week, but my pee turns bright yellow when I do, making me believe that I just pee it out. I also take calcium maybe 2 times a week. Occasionally, for mental peace, I take an iron capsule.

4. where should i get more protein? (i eat a lot of greens everyday like kale, spinach, collards, red leaf, and regular romaine, all day and i prefer seeds over nuts) You probably don't need much more protein than you're getting. Unless you're eating ALL fruit, you shouldn't have to worry. Just get the amino acids, and you're good.

5. and for those that are able to limit their healthy fats/large calories what are you eating and how do you manage to do it?!? I'm a failure.

Help me! <3

You should read The China Study......we don't need that much protein. Sounds like you need Chia seeds though.

Chia Seeds were found to contain niacin, riboflavin, and thiamin at a concentration of 83, 2 and 14 μg/g seed, respectively. Spectrochemical analysis showed the presence of eleven elements with calcium, potassium, and phosphorus being the most prominent.

To me your nutritional data is pretty good! I wouldn't worry about getting 100% of every vitamin every day - as long as you average out reasonably well your body will be fine. Look at other creatures on the planet - the very largest creatures get by on leafy greens alone.

Sub some spinach for the romaine and your vitamin K % will skyrocket. Add a tbs of freshly ground sesame seeds or blackstrap molasses for some calcium (not sure if molasses is raw). I take spirulina for B-12 (lots of other nutrients, too). I think RawDancer is correct - as long as you have the amino acids so abunant in fruit & vegetables you will be fine.

HTH!

greetings cinnamon panda!

I have been raw for about 145 days. My eating habits are similar to yours but I am sure to include plenty of Braggs Apple Cider Vinegar (it makes a supremely delicious salad) and a variety of veggies. Do you have a juicer? Juicing vegetables is in my opinion the best way to get large amounts of nutrients.

I eat tons of nuts and avos. I admit...I'm addicted to these things. But I'm not hard on myself because I'm raw for crying out loud! I Gotta give me a break every so often.

I don't want to be one to say "oh don't worry about it, you'll get plenty of nutrients with what you're eating" without being sure, but really you're getting more than most of the population!! :) It's good to question these things though to make sure you are doing this right. Deficiencies don't sound like much fun.

I wish for you the best panda.......

cinnamon panda, i eat loads of fats, and those rare days where i force myself to cut down, i end up feeling so rundown, sleepy, miserable, my skin and my eyes look worse.. (despite eating loads of veg and juice...etc) my body just craves fats. i eat around 1800-2200 calories a day depending, - usually an avocado, four bananas, coconut, 3/4 diff types of nuts, flax bread/crackers, and some sweet nutty treat EACH day. i reckon you should listen to your body, if it's telling you to it wants an avo EAT ONE!! think how much better it is compared to the millions out there eating processed greasy cheese and deep fat-fried "foods" everyday. and you never know, maybe in time your body will stop craving these foods and want less fat/other things...

also, remember that only toxic foods will get deposited as stale fat on your body, not fresh, completely raw (be wary of some nuts) wholesome foods that happen to have a high (good) fat content.

and if possible, sprouted nuts/seeds are best since their fat gets partially used so they can become alive and grow:)

oh, and about the nutrients i agree with smilingrawdancer and jeannine. also any dark green leafy veg esp. kale (if you can tolerate it -i'm a wimp) for magnesium, or cacao. and for calcium carob is a very good source, as is buckwheat and fresh figs. i also take spirulina everyday, maca, gojis, and pollen. but if you're on a budget then look in garden for superfoods like wild garlic, mallow, dandelion leaves, rosehips... (i even eat some organic rose petals know and again, theyre highly vibrational and make me feel more in touch with nature. -some flowers are pleasantly sweet! ..oops, sorry to ramble off the subject!

I eat avocados and young coconuts when I get the urge to have them. Some days I don't get an urge and other days I have eaten as many as 6 avocados in a day or 2 young coconuts. It all depends on the body's "want" signals. I think if you just listen to your body's signals you can throw away the tables, scales, and calorie counters and it works much better.

PS, I think some people confuse their body's signals so much that they arn't getting a readable message. All the cooked foods, junk foods, and mixed foods cause the signal to be scrambled and filled with static. I have found that to clear up the static and get a readable signal from the body first a person needs to eat all raw. Next, a person needs to eliminate seasonings and sweeteners. And last a person needs to eat simply. Eating simply is to eat mono meals that are not confusing to the body and if more then one ingredient is eaten at a time then try to keep them in the same food combining group if possible, for example an orange / pineapple smoothie. Once you get the static out of your signals then you can trust your body to let you know what it needs and you can eat instinctively. Then you won't need tables to tell you what to eat -- you'll know instinctively.
