Hi has anyone experienced lots of hair loss in the early days of raw fooding?
This week i am losing lots of hair:eek: If I run my hands through it lots just comes away - not clumps but maybe 5-10 strands at a time. Each time I brush it looks like I havent cleaned the brush for a few months:(
I do have longish thick hair so its not getting thin (yet!) but it is concerning me a little.
I tend to have 3 days at 100% raw then a couple of days at 75% then back to 100% at the moment & am planning to join the November 30 day challenge.

I did - but then I turned to raw due to an allergic reaction to cooked goats milk. It was a few months until it stopped, but it has now and I have loads of soft baby hair growing back.
I didn't go bald (!) but I did have a lot cut off (abou 5 inches) to make the ends look thicker and less like rats' tails as I have naturally very fine hair anyway.
If you are not getting enough nutrients hair is one the first thing the body jettisons (survival before appearance) so you might want to check you are getting enough minerals in your diet and consider supplementing if not.

Thanks shooting star - think I will take supplements for a few months til my body gets used to the raw food. (I also cant have animal milks/cheeses etc)

a common detox event from raw foods, i've heard. my ayurvedic practitioner prescribed neem, i upped the green smoothie ante, cut back on nuts and oils (so to give my body more of its calories from raw fruits and veggies and their vitamins and minerals) and am happy to say that in 3 weeks it looks like a done deal. nails back to normal. hair no longer falling out.

Thankyou so much for sharing what has worked for you. I will try this approach too.
Congrats on your weight loss. My starting weight is 207lbs. I havent done too well on the 100% raw challenge this month so have withdrawn from it til I feel more able to not slip. My slips have been when my body was craving homemade veg soup, baked sweet potatoes etc not crappy foods. Maybe if i start to have regular green smoothies I wont be craving veg in this way anymore? I just got a blender that is strong enough to make GS so will definitely be making them a regular part of my raw diet now.
I was about to post again on this thread to say Im still losing loads of hair but also have lots of new baby hair growing so Im no-longer paranoid about going bald :) LOL
And the bonus is that it is mostly grey hair that is falling out...Im 42 with dark brown hair & have no visible grey now...there are still some grey hairs in the underneath layers of my hair but that is all. Sure hope it stays like this ;)

I have had the opposite...my hair used to fall out loads but since going raw and eating a ton of sea veggies it is strong and shiny :)

Nasturtium flowers are good to eat because of their natural sulphur content, good for hair and nails. They are a little peppery.

I found a recipe here..
http://www.markusrothkranz.com/raw_recipes.html
Thats got lots of silicon which is really good for skin, teeth and hair (not to mention joints, bones, etc.) It looks pretty yummy though I've never had cactus and I'm not 100% sure I can get it here. Anywho I'm gonna' try this one out. :D
