I put about 3 leaves of kale (packed with some many nutrients), a few slices of pineapples (rinsed), some cold mandarin oranges (rinsed) about half a frozen banana, 1/2 cup of soy milk and my some ice. Turned on the smoothie on the blendtec blender. Took a look at it and thought now way can this taste good. To my amazement, I could drink this anytime of the day without a chaser! I had failed attempts at using strawberries, blueberries, etc. but I think the pineapple actually made the difference.

Anyone have any variations of the green smoothies? I've tried using red chard but it has a rather unpleasant taste.

I just open the Fridge and whatever I take out goes into a Smoothie...I like to "KEEP IT SIMPLE"

I had one yesterday with romaine lettuce, apples, and watermelon. It was very insipid, and the texture was more like watery pulp than a smoothie. :p

Back to the drawing board!

I just had a one with:

+) water to cover flat blades of vitamix
+) 1 peeled cucumber
+) 1/4 head of romaine lettuce
+) about 8 ice cubes

Blend very well and drink fresh.

The combo I'm currently enjoying is..
Frozen bananas
strawberries
an orange
1/2 juice of a lemon
4 pieces kale
handful of dandelion
a few ground up goji berries
sometimes raw cacao

Loving the added lemon juice lately. It gives it that kick.

this is a slight adaption from Miss Sarma Mengalis of Pure Food and Wine in NY.

I love this smoothie almost anytime

1 cup coconut water
1 cup blueberries
1 handful spinach
1 half banana
pinch sea salt
1 tsp vanilla extract (organic)

Or this one just what I had one day in the fridge... lucky me it tasted fantastic:)

2 leaves curly red Kale
1 banana
1 cup coconut water
1 1/2 cup frozen mango
1 tsp vanilla extract (organic)
pinch of sea salt

I should experiment with coconut. I heard of good things using a coconut paste in smoothies. It's a texture almost like peanut butter. Never had it myself.

- 2 bananas
- 2 oranges
- a lot of spinach or another favorite green leafy vegetable

It's easy and tasty, and you can vary endlessly by using different green leafy vegetables. It's addicting too...

I was wondering why you're using soy milk? Don't think that's raw. Maybe you are transitioning into raw. I've found that I like 2 cups of water, 1 cup frozen strawberries or rasperries, a banana, a teaspoon of agave, handful of kale or dark green romaine leaves, & a teaspoon of cacoa powder. To give it a little "kick" I sprinkle in a tiny bit of cayenne pepper (goes good with chocolate).

I'm new to raw food so I just add some soy mile to give it some calcium and some thickness. I tried about 1/2c coconut milk with 1/2c water this evening and it came out fine.

I've never had agave before. What does it do?

acdean, agave is a syrup that's made from the same cactus that gives us tequila. It's used as a sweetener, often in place of maple syrup.

My green smoothie this morning had a small bunch of spinach, a couple of apples, a large carrot, and a packet of raw hemp protein powder. It was... tolerable. (I still haven't found a combination of flavours to rave about, though!)

One of my favorites is:

5 dates soaked (I throw them in the fridge before I go to bed so they are nice and soft in the morn.)
date soak water - sweet and syrupy
2 large handfuls of spinach
strawberry tops (you get great strawberry flavor + greens)
2-3 frozen bananas
pineapple

I can't get enough of this one lately. :D

I usually do an orange juice base with pineapple and bananas. Yesterday I added some raspberries! For my greens, I use Nature's First Food from rawfood.com
When I do fresh greens, I'll use spinach or a mixed baby green salad mix.

I don't much care for chard; it has a sort of "dirt" taste to it, doesn't it? It's a shame because it's sooo pretty

Just added Maca powder and just choking it down. Thought I needed to make it more dense, stay with me longer, or just wanted to see if Maca might help me feel better( fatigue from my auto-immune diseases). I made it pretty close to my basic smoothie, and added just maca, no wonder everybody uses it with cacao. Isn't that countering the purpose of the adaptogen? Any other ideas besides cacao? It is so bitter, it smells good, but the taste of the Maca powder reminds me of how burnt hair smells. But....., as with anything I do in my health journey, if it makes me feel better.......

I have, whay may be, a silly question :o ?

I keep hearing about strawberry tops, does that just mean the leafy heads of the strawberries that people usually cut off? Because I've been cutting them off out of habit, and if I don't need to I most certainly won't!!!:p

Spinach with bananas or cantelope and almond milk. Fabulous!
