I would like to subscribe to a good RAW Lifestyle magazine that is fairly broad in it's scope -- not just recipes, but articles about people, research, benefits, etc. I'm also thinking of giving some gift subscriptions at Christmas time. What are the best ones to consider? Why? Thanks! :)

I have been thinking about getting the magazine, "Purely Delicious." You can look it up online they have a nice site set up. Oh yeah, and then you should get beppa's magazine when it comes out! I know it will be great.

Absolutely Get Fresh! magazine from the UK.
It's a full color mag that covers about anything that's going on in the raw food world. New books, seasonal recipes, retreats, superfoods, health, trouble shooting etc. It appears 4x a year.
They ship worldwide, you can download a free sample magazine here:

And the Hippocrates Health Institute in Florida (based on the Ann Wigmore principles), has a free health magazine you can subscribe to:

I second "Purely Delicious". It's our own Maraw here from the boards that puts it out.:D

Beppa, let us know when you have yours out too.:D

I've been trying to get this magazine for a while now. I can't seem to get through to anyone. I've called the phone #. I've emailed no answer, no response. Does anyone know where or how I can get this magazine? To subscribe online does not have mail to U.S. as an option. The phone number is no longer in service. Any suggestions? Thanks, everyone!

Ok, so the annual cost is $25 for 4 issues. So, I thought, this must be a pretty large magazine. Imagine my surprise when it came and was maybe 30 pages (not sure - don't have it with me) - but it is less than 3/8 inches thick. Just because it is about a specialty lifestyle, it has to be high priced?????

I'm not involved at that magazine, but have an extensive background in publications. So I can tell you one reason it's priced higher: With a pretty small audience, it does limited press runs, which are more expensive per printed piece. For instance, it you're printing only 2,000 30-page magazines, the price is actually higher per item than printing million-run 100-page publications, because high-circulation magazines buy paper in bulk and have special deals with huge printing firms.

Jane, I would be happy to send you a sample issue for your consideration. I agree though - there are several really nice raw magazines out there. Keeping asking around. I'm sure you'll find the right one for you.

Carol, nothing would delight me more than to lower the subscribers cost of the magazine. KittyMommy is right however. We print roughly 5,000 magazines with each issue, and with shipping we are just breaking even. I will never complain because it is such a joy to produce. I only ask that you consider the fact that we are not a corporate conglomerate, feeding you loads of expensive ads and trivial information. If you whittle down those larger magazines, how much of it is actual useful content - you know? Plus, with each issue of Purely Delicious you get 10-15 recipes as well as some wonderful articles!

It is my greatest desire that the magazine will continue to grow and help people on their raw journey. I am sorry if you felt a little disappointed. Maybe, if you stick with me, you can say "I remember when it was only 30 pages!!" ;)

In joy,
Anna (MaRaw)

Anna (MaRaw): Thanks so much for your response! Your magazine is absolutely beautiful - my husband even commented on it. It's just a bit high for me right now...... a dehydrator and food processor will be breaking my budget for the time being!

Beppa, may I also offer my assistance? I use to be a production magazine and have a good amount of experience with print buying, as well as my current experience with the magazine.

Anything I can do to help, just shout.

Best wishes,
Anna

I just got some "Living Nutrition" magazines and I love them. They really have a no b/s approach to raw foods. They promote a low fat, high fruit and vegetable diet with little dehydrated foods, and they have some amazing recipes. Also, the articles are incredibly informative. I highly recommend it.

I plan to treat myself to a subscription to "Purely Delicious" for Christmas, I love finding special treats for myself for the holidays!

If you check out the website (also has the ordering information) I've got to plug an article that Anna has online that is THE best one I've ever read on gluten intolerance. Check it out if you are interested!!

"The Many Faces of Gluten Intolerance"
(March 2007 issue)

And her food pictures are so elegant and beautiful!!

Boy do you have a point!!

I would love to see ppl "support" the cause more or maybe even learn a bit about what it takes to get things like this OUT to begin with. Esp being against the government wants you to know. Funding will come from ppl like us 10 times more.

I bought Maraw's as an Xmas gift and just LOVE IT. Yes it is on the slim side but she packs a tonne into every issue. Think of the thick mags you buy. . .how much do you actually read and how much is unuseable content? Purely Delicious contains usable content from the first to the last pages!

I WILL continue to get it AND her calender too! I love supporting her too :p
