ok actually i started yesterday at 7pm and so im on 30hrs or so with only water. i have had three cups of tea in between the water. so far, just hunger pains here and there and that usually goes away. i have a few questions/concerns however.

this is my first fast, is it supposed to be going so easy. i have (from what i can make out of it from this website) been a "SAD" eater. im not sure what it means but since im a college student who usually eats processed foods (for example one day i ate a nuitra gran bar, string cheese, raisins, wheat thins, and taco bell), im pretty sure i should be experiencing some major detox symptoms by now.

not like i want them...

i start my period anyday now and from previous posts i should have less cramping. is that true?

also, when i get this detox thing will i not be able to go to class? is it just like having a cold? or will i be throwing up and things? also, will i be having terrible bowel movements like those mucus things or parasites? that would just freak me out and make me end the fast.

will i lose hair during/after the fast?

anyone find out ways to reduce bad breath? i have toothpaste and mouthwash. anything else?

and finally, is there anyone else who is fasting on water or have advice? i need a buddy who i can talk to on the regular on aim or something. im trying to do this for two weeks. but since its my first time and im in the middle of mid terms/LSAT studying i think i should just see if i make it til wed and then friday. any help is appreciated

Every person is different so I can't tell you how your body will react, but I can share my experiences. I know for me water fasting is way too harsh. I didn't have any detox symptoms before I went to bed around hour 36 or so. I woke up around hour 40 dry heaving and could barely crawl out of the bathroom to the living room (one room over) and collapsed and just slept there. If I juice fast though I'm ok and went 14 days without a problem! I'm not sure if it was a blood sugar thing or all the toxins being dumped into my stomach. This does not mean it will happen to you. Just be careful, especially since it's your first fast. If you start feeling bad like that and still want to continue, I'd juice some oranges with a manual juicer if you don't have a regular juicer for other fruits and veggies.

Not to end on a negative note. There have been many that can water fast 10-21 days, but that's usually after many shorter fasts to clean their system out first. It is possible so don't get discouraged if you feel you must stop.

Hi!

I've just recently returned to raw foods in the last few weeks and would love to help you out on your fast. I'm also a college student (MM Music Performance in Viola) so I understand the type of schedule you must be combatting at the moment. I did an eight day fast last spring that was supposed to last 10 days after 30 days or so or eating vegan raw. It began similiar to your experience, very few detox symptoms aside from a little tiredness and the hunger disappeared after about the second day. Generally it was a very enlightening experience for me; I felt very light and that my posture began to improve (sounds weird, I know). The last couple of days I think I began to feel really really tired and I felt like my heart would beat really fast when I overexerted myself, so I decided it was time to go slowly back to food. I lost a lot of weight as well and gained a little under half when I began eating again. Probably because I went back to eating cooked foor becuase I got scared that I wasn't getting the right amount of nutrition and thought that all the salads and stuff might be hard on my system.... So I am all for fasting 100%. Just listen to your body and be prepared to modify your schedule a bit activity-wise. There were times when I felt weakness that affected my ability to perform/practice (my viola) the normal amount of hours, and other times when I had bursts of energy. You may also want to aim for something like 3-5 days on your first fast. I'd done juice fasts and put myself on a raw diet for 30 days before the fast, so my system may have been relatively cleaned out.... If I wanted to attempt a fast now, after a summer of teetering between semiraw and SAD, even though I've been raw for about 3 weeks, I wouldn't go for the 10 days yet, just to make it as comfortable as possible. I also did a salt-water cleanse in the mornings (you can do a search for it- warm water with a bit of salt straight down the hatch) which helped get me clean in the beginning..

I know this is long winded, but I hope is helps. Any questions feel free to contact me! I may be interested in joining you sometime (when my schedule is less crazy)!

Lots of luck!
Kaila
