I have many very supportive, very concerned people who ask me about protein. What is the simplest and best way to explain this to them? I understand it when I read it and I believe it. I just don't know how to transfer what I know to something they can understand. A little help, please? They are truly concerned and willing to back off however I'd like to make them understand and not worry with a sound answer. I just can't put it into words myself. I've always been anemic and they have always watched out for me especially since I had a count of 6 and 12 is normal. Also, a list of your top choices for proteins would help me make sure I'm doing it right and not missing any options.

Thanks all!

Quote[Many green vegetables are excellent sources of high quality protein. A bowl of uncooked greens or sprouts may only contain a few grams of protein, but you can digest and assimilate all of it because they still have all of their vitamins, minerals, and enzymes intact. This makes this protein for more useful to your body.]Quote (Living on Live Food by Alissa Cohen)

After reading up on it a bit I am leaning toward hemp protein as being a great source of it.

Protein in the USA is way over-rated. The average american takes in several hundred times the protein the body needs. Animals that are natural vegans (like cows and deer for example) eat virtually all greens and have no lack of protein. Thats because protein is made in the body from amino acids. There are 8 aminos we don't have in our body naturally, hence when we eat foods that contain them, our bodies use it to make protein. Most people (in their zeal to get protein) mistakenly think we must get all 8 at one meal or all in one day. Raw vegans don't lose nutrients like those that partake of flesh foods and dairy products, because in having to dispose of the putrified waste material these products create the body has to use its stores of protein (and B12 for that matter) but this isn't the case with the raw vegan. The foods consumed by the raw vegan contain living enzymes that naturally break down in a manner which allows waste to pass thru the digestive tract and actually deposit vital nutrients without using alot of the body's reserves to eliminate waste. The bottom line is, we simply don't need the amounts of protein we have been taught and brainwashed into thinking we need. In fact, excess protein in the body is toxic and cancer cells feed off them to stay alive in the body. A diet that is heavy in fruits with adequate amounts of vegetables, nuts and seeds will cause the body to reach optimum health and vigor as I can personally attest by experience.

Peace.

Wow! that was fast! That's basically what I tell them and they just look at me like deer in the headlights.

I don't know much about hemp protein but I take Alissa's Shapeshift as often as I can. Shapeshift Ingredients: *Living Harvest Hemp Protein (TM), *Carrots, *Broccoli, *Spinach, *Beets, *Zucchini, *Asparagus, *Radish, *Parsley, *Celery, *Orange, *Lemon, Proprietary Plant Based Enzyme Blend, Hydrilla Rooting Algae, Chicory Root Oligofructose, *Fennel Seed. * Organic Ingredients.

Hey! It's Hemp Protein. What do you know!? Boy, I'm real with it! I knew it was some type of protein. I use about 1/2 the recommended dosage as I think it alters the flavor of the things I put it in. I haven't found that perfect combination. I'm trying.

I usually say something along these lines:

"We have been misguided into thinking we need a lot of protein when in fact, we should be concerned about getting too much! It has been discovered and determined that Osteoporosis isn't caused by a lack of calcium (as many women who suffer with it have eaten large amounts of dairy products all their lives) but rather it's too much protein in our diets.

Protein is considered the building block for growth and development...if this is true, then why do we as adults need growth and development when we've already fully grown and developed? During the most crucial stages of an infants life, they rely on (breast)milk and human breastmilk contains roughly around 1-4%, and fruit contains roughly the same percentage of protein, somewhere around 1-6%. So, one can (contrary to popular belief) get adequate amounts of protein from a fruit diet along with vegetables, nuts and seeds."

I don't worry about it...I just eat my fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds (either fresh and whole or in recipes) because I never once worried about it when I was eating a diet mostly consisting of fried chicken, canned veggies, pancakes and sausage and loads of bread (along with junk food, fast food and sweets)....so why should I be so worked up over it now eating the foods that God intended for me to eat? The mainstream, big business would have us to be fearful so we cannot and will not take our own health matters into our own hands because we then pull money from their wallets!

I'm with smasty (who is very witty :) ).........thanks for the right words. I even understand it better as I'm not a chemical-minded person.

Thank you all so much. I'm going to copy-paste and carry it with me!

AMEN Rawkinlocs!

In the end, all this "scientific" stuff about protein and B12 is all about the money. If raw foodism ever became big business, there will be 10 times more "scientific" evidence to support it. Let us take our health in our own hands and live with the results (which with the raw lifestyle is great!). Just like those who eat the flesh of dead animals or smoke or drink or take pharmakia. Thanks Rawkinlocs!!

Peace.

Thanks everyone for all the great info. I read in a John Robbins book once about the protein myth. He explains that the recommended amount is (I think) around 12 percent which is extremely high and only set this high because of the meat and dairy industry pressure. It should be about half that if I remember correctly or something like 6-8 percent protein which if you look at the protein content of almonds for example 1 cup is approximately 60% protein (which is maybe not quite as high as meat but as you can see it is still more than adequate for protein intake). And most Americans today take in way too much protein and you are more likely to die of some disease or another from too much than you are from not enough. When I usually get asked the protein question I just say that I don't worry about it because protein is in almost everything and more people die every year from getting too much than from not getting enough. That usually shuts them up lol. I guess it really depends on how in depth of an answer the person is expecting.
