Any recommedations for food in the winter? Cold weather is here and I don't think my cold green smoothies are going to be cutting it in the icy morning.

Try adding warming spices to your foods/drinks. Things like ginger, cinnamon, garlic & hot peppers (just enough to add warmth, not make it hot) can really warm you without having to have the food or drink be physically hot.
I actually find the warming spices to do a better job of warming me than any heated foods ever did! That was quite a surprise to me! I honestly prefer my room temp. food & drink with warming spices to anything physically hot or warm now.
I made a chocolate milk shake (cold water, no ice) last night & didn't get the shivers 'cause I'd added a dash of cayenne to the mix beforehand. I was nice & toasty all the way to my toes... :p

Oooo that just made me think of some chocolate 'fudge' I made.. would be GREAT w/ some cayanne in it. :) MMMMM I hope I remember that next time. Great advice. I had that sensation when I had some Gingerberry Kombucha the other day. :)

hey that's good advice! I never heard that one before. What about dehydrating things just to warm them. Does it take a while, to maybe heat some soup or something?

Amy, I put my soups in a glass bowl and warm them in the dehyrator all the time! It doesn't take long, but I crank my dehydrator up to about 120-140degrees, for only about 30 minutes or so (usually while I make my family's cooked dinner). This only gets the soup just above room temp. but also adding warming spices helps to really warm you up!
I also make a SAVORY green smoothie, that I eat "warm" right out of the blender!!! Here is my "basic" recipe, you can add LOTS OF OTHER STUFF, or take away something if you don't like it!
blender full of greens
1/2 to 1 cup of water
blend until totally liquid
then I add:
2 cloves of garlic
@3 roma tomatoes
1 cucumber (sometimes, if I have one)
1 avo
1 heaping TBS of coconut oil (if I have it, but adding this helps with the "creamy" texture)
spices:
cumin
sea salt
chili powder or cayenne (just enough to warm it, about 1/2 - 1 tsp)
basil or italian seasoning
Blend this for a few minutes (if you have a regular blender, but if you have a vitamix, be careful not to overheat!)
Enjoy "warm" right out of the blender!!
Try this and let me know what you think!!!

banana and ginger root smoothies
banana and habanero smoothies
no ice!
I think the hardest thing for me is drinking water with no ice. Iced water chills me to the bone!!!
If you have a vitamix, the kinetic energy of the turning blades will make your soups warm for you. I feel like the warming spices/peppers are crucial, tho - so include them also in your soups.

Ok so before I went raw a week an a half ago, I absolutely LOVED CEREAL. My book hasnt come yet but what do you make your cereal out of, and do you use for milk?
