Hi All I've been thinking for weeks about all the essential equipment for going raw, the spiral slicer, dehydrator etc then it suddenly dawned on me today that what I truly needed was a BIG fridge:p
Ive been so busy thinking about other stuff that I nearly didnt notice this simple but really important element to having a successful 30 day raw challenge in November & beyond:rolleyes: Having raw recipes prepared in advance stored in the fridge will really help me stay away from cooked snack items;)

Im in the UK & I have a tiny fridge...the large ones you guys have in the states have only really been catching on over here in the last few years (or at least Ive only been aware of them for a short time). Anyway, I have ordered myself a large larder fridge which will arrive Tuesday. Yippee:D
Ive been practicing loads of recipes & have come up with some staples to help me through the first 30 days - various seed & nut pates, fruit puddings, pestos, different types of hummus, desserts & treats like fudge balls YUM
I cant wait to fill up the new fridge & get ready for Novembers challenge.

Im keeping the small fridge too cos Im starting to feel grossed out by alot of cooked foods & also by meat & other non-vegan items so I plan to keep my new fridge totally raw vegan.

Crystalmoon,

Great thread topic. I have a second fridge coming tomorrow for my garage. Have a roommate who needs more fridge room than my current small fridge can offer due to all my raw stuff. This way, I can put all my staples in there which will keep them fresher than on the shelf (nuts, grains, etc.) and my greens, frozen fruits for smoothies, etc.

Can hardly wait to get it all organized and nice--love neat and orderly things. Keep us posted how it works out for you.

I wish I had a large fridge. I have an old side by side and the best I can figure it is a combined 20 cu. ft. or thereabouts. It's not big enough for all the produce plus the food my husband eats. I bought a little fridge for my daughter. We need to keep her food separate because of her food allergies.

So funny I am always complaining about my American side by side. About how much I miss my UK fridge; the fridge on top freezer on bottom sort, not the under counter sort. It was much smaller but soooo well designed, I was always amazing what I could pack into that thing! I actually had a peek at the John Lewis site just to moon over fridges. . .so very sad!:o

I have often thought of contacting manufacturers and (1st) suggesting that the US designs need to take a page out of the European design book and (2nd) to design a fridge for vegatarians - basically a veg fridge! Can you just imagine like four or five big veg bins all for different fruits & veg types!

. . . Oooo how's about specially designed slots for each veg. . . a non-platic inside. . .a mini carrots dispenser for the kids. . . A built in dehydrator . . .

A veg fridge would be perfect. I was always envious of my MIL's huge fridge. Her old one broke while we were there and my BIL ordered her a new one, sight unseen. It had two huge produce drawers in it and they had humidity controls. I could leave things in there, come back three weeks later and often the produce was still fresh.

My fridge has a meat drawer. It's pretty useless to me, except to store the meat my husband eats. I've tried to put root veggies in there or hardier things like cabbage. I can sometimes keep the stuff for a couple of days, but most of the time it freezes. There's a temp control just for that drawer and I can make it colder. Why would I want that?
