I'm listening to this right now and it sounds like not everyone goes organic? I've been doing everything organic.

I'm going raw for mostly weight loss right now.
Can this still be done even if I eat conventional raw foods?

b/c it's always a battle with money every week.......now it's even harder since my husband joined. I mean if I go conventional it won't be forever. i already know the massive health benifits for organic. So when I finish school and we get a house in about a year and half we'll be able to afford the organic.

What do you think?
what do you do?

whatever works. I try to buy organic bananas (they taste better), organic apples, grapes, greens and frozen fruit.
i grow my own berries, apples and next year greens and veggies.
i buy unorganic oranges, limes, lemons, grapefruits all the time unless i can get them organic for near the same price. they are much cheaper. It is said that un-organic fruits and veggies have less nutritional value. probably. but if that's what you can afford for the time being, it's no biggy!

uhhh i hope that helped :) lol

Eat raw whatever you can afford. Raw conventional is still better than cooked anything! I don't always buy organic; it depends on what I'm buying & where I am. If I can get something locally but conventionally grown, I'll take that in a heart beat over shipped-in-from-where ever-but-organic! If the organic produce is looking a little tatty & the conventional stuff is looking rather lively, I'll choose the conventional stuff over the organic. Then there are the times when there isn't an organic option available & I still want the food or there's an unbelievable sale on huge quantities of something that I use a lot that isn't organic. Do what you can & don't worry about what you can't! :D

According to some, there is MUCH more in the way of nutrients when eating organic PLUS, you don't have to deal with pesticides, herbicides, etc. I do as much organic as possible.

Others will say that eating non-organic is suitable and much better than lots of dehydrated.

What I say? Do the best you can with what you've got. Stressing over things is not productive or paramount to good health.

"Battling" with money? who wins that fight?

exactly. I was just listening to it and i've been reading this on here over and over but to actually hear someone say it out loud. even though it's on a podcast, made it sink in better. "don't stress over it"
I would love love love LOVE to stay all organic, but with living with my mother in law, both of us going to school, saving for a house, and now buying raw for BOTH of us, man it's hard.
We will both graduate the first quarter of 2009. and plan to get a house right after. So a year with conventional raw as apposed to the 25 years SAD? I'll should be good to go.

I gotta have me a house to put all that RAW organic in! I must sacrafice the all organic. My husband already knows the back yard must be huge. b/c I want a garden. and it's going to be a big one. :)

Hi,

I am doing and feeling wonderful on 100% raw and mostly not organic.( I'm talking fresh fruits and veggies all the other stuff is organic):)

It is very difficult to find organic here in Montreal and what there is is an astronomical price considering the volume I require.

The organic found in Supermarkets i am not fully convinced is organic. Some of it is very bitter.

So I get my fruits and veggies from local markets and organic when I can.

I feel soooooo goooood:) :D

ah~haaa... jes read on your journal blog so I came over here to check this post out too!! okay...

I would looove to do all organic - ABSOLUTLEY.. and some day I shall. I realize the health benefits are amazing - and so worth it... but for right now...

my goal is to stay 100% raw -- continue to heal - continue to get healthy and continue to have fun doing it!!

I will NOT stress the little stuff... I WILL HAVE FUN on this journey! I do organic when I can - and if I have to purchase my produce from a grocery store -- then so be it - at least I'm still eating healthier than if I were stuffing myself full of cow pus milk, dead meat, and other crap!!

I just take the time to wash my produce really well... and blessing my food helps too!!

RAWK ON... AND DON'T FORGET....

RAW organic foods are good.
RAW regular foods are good.
COOKED organic & regular foods are a choice I say NO too.

I'm feeding a family of five raw. I do NOT get all organic. I get what I can afford organic (I get a case of organic bananas for $14-$15), and the rest conventional. I have lost 70 pounds that way.

Do what you can with what you have. When you have more, do more!:D

Hey ladypeace....I TRY to stick to the following, if all is well in the $ department....

Organic ~ apples, bell peppers, celery, cherries, grapes, nectarines, peaches, pears, potatoes, red raspberries, spinach, strawberries, tomatoes

Doesn't NEED to be organic ~ anything with a thick skin, like bananas, oranges, or citrus in general, carrots (although, I sometimes buy organic, you peel them either way), kiwi, etc.

Anything with a thin skin is debatable.....if you peel it, you can buy non organic (I know, stuff can get through the skin too.....), but I definitely buy as much on the "organic" list as possible....that's just me!

Hi! Right now, I only buy organic spinach...and I can put away some spinach!! :D Everything else is conventional. Maybe that'll change as time goes on, ya know, baby steps. Still new at this game. Conventional raw is many times better than anything cooked, so I feel progress is being made.

Thanks for all of your responses. I really appreciate it. I think I've finally gotten over the wall. I bought some conventional b/c it is cheaper. The grocery shopping was still more but only b/c i was buying more for two of us and freezing a lot of the fruit. I'll check out more stores to see prices. :)

Dang! I've never even SEEN organic bananas! If I were to do organic I think I would probably have to do alot of driving because even if I went to the 3 stores in a 3 mile radius of my house I still would have poor selection. I want to do organic but the money thing is a problem. I just read today that they have made a connection between pesticides and hypothyroid so the reality of it is hitting home for me.

Well I voted for a local farmers market to open near me. They were trying to find if there was interest. Hopefully that will increase my options.

oh man i can get organic bananas everywhere around me and i live in a very small town. both stores sell organics, then i go to the city near me and find organics all over the place. :) often the bananas are actually cheaper as organic!!! i know the brocilli was the other day.

so i buy organic but if i need something and it's not available in organic, i still pick it up except i NEVER buy non-organic bananas, strawberries or grapes. EVER. way to high in pesticides!

If it's got a large surface area that you aren't going to (or can't) peel -- such as berries, broccoli, greens -- then I would go for organic. Also, anything that comes from another country (like a lot of tropical fruit) I would try to find organic, because you really can't be sure of what they're putting on the crops.

But even eating lots of conventional produce is still better than a standard diet. If years on the SAD diet didn't kill you, a year of conventional produce probably won't, either!

I hope there was enough people to vote for it. There isn't ALWAYS all organic at my WFS. but in produce about 80% of it is organic. They usually have both organic and conventional. The past 3 weeks i've gone they don't have ANY peaches. at all. :( and no organic oranges. so I got tons of conventional oranges this time.
I don't like to drive all over the place. I just read that Whole Food Stores have increased dramatically in business. Hopefully they will open more every where for everyone!!

Let us know if they got enough votes!
