I've seen hazelnuts in the store, and wondered if they could take the place of cashews or macs in other recipes. They are alot cheaper than macs, and possibly more raw than cashews....anybody use them, and what for???

I just used them in some mushroom burgers I made last night; I didn't have enough pecans, so I used hazelnuts along with the pecans. The burgers are great! I use hazelnuts a lot; I make a chocolate-hazelnut mousse that plays up the flavor of the hazelnut with the chocolate.

I try to use all kinds of nuts (raw) for a variety of flavors. Besides, I don't particularly care for cashews or walnuts (even though I do buy them). :)

i use them in chocolate brownies all the time, i also use the nut butter as it's so delicious and when you mix this with cacao and honey/agave it tastes just like Nutella/ferrero roche!

My problem with using them as a replacement would be the skins. Hazelnut skins can be quite bitter. But if you removed the skins first, you could probably use them as substitutes.

I use hazelnuts alot as they are alkaline for our bodies. I find them to be a grounding type of food & love hazelnut milk.

I'm not sure if they are a soft and creamy as cashews and mac's.
But give 'er a rip' and let us know. Hazelnuts are so yummy!

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!! I think I'll buy some and make a small cashew recipe and see how it tastes! However, if I don't like that, I an always make something with hazelnut/choco...something....that reminds me of a favorite coffee creamer my mom used to use...hazelnut....might me a great "warm" hazelnut/choco milk YUMMY!

Anybody else substitute hazelnuts for mac or cashews in creamy recipes??

they dont taste at all like cashews or macs, which have a much higher fat content.. hazelnuts have more protein. i dont always like ones from the store but ive bought some fresh ones from the market and they were deeelicious. i suspect the "raw" ones in the store are NOT raw, lol.
