I tried hemp seeds but they seem to be all hard outside no middle even after soaking. I didn't seem to get much flavour from them either. Am I doing something wrong or do I just not like hemp?

What kind did you get? I get the ones from Alissa and they're pretty soft even without soaking. Maybe yours still have the hull on (??)

yes they do still have the hull on. I can't find hull-off ones that say they are raw. I'm going to HAVE to do an online raw shop when I get paid this month!

yeah, you want the hulled hemp seeds.
BTW, they don't sell the ones with the hulls on here unless they are roasted. (apparently they don't want people being able to grow hemp).
I'd be curious if they're raw or not -- have you tried to sprout them? It also might make those edible if the hull can get rinsed off after sprouting like a bean sprout or whatnot.
If you said they have no middle, are they just the hulls, or are they whole unhulled hemp seeds?

i think if they have the hull you can grind them in a coffee grinder.
what you want to look for is "hemp seed nut" or "hemp hearts"
I bought Nutiva Organic Shelled Hempseed (100% Raw certified organic shelled hempseeds) from my health food store. 33% protien w/Omega-3 & GLA. Now as long as they don't do something un-raw-ish to remove the shells...!

You can still use them. I soak them overnight and then make hemp milk by putting them in the blender with water and straining them.
I will not claim that it is very nice because I would be lying but I use it as the basis for a smoothie.
I have sprouted and planted them but they do not live for very long. I am trying again at the moment and will harvest as soon as they come over ground.
